I've been using Fences 2 for several years and have had no real problems with it. I just upgraded to Fences 3 and now the transparency is not working properly.
I'm running Windows 10 with two screens, and I have different wallpaper on each screen. I have all my Fences on Display 1, but the transparency image that Fences displays is from Display 2, example:
Please let me know if you need any more information.
I'm curious what program you are using to get the different wallpapers on each screen. (It's not a built-in feature of Windows.)
What happens if you disable translucency?
No third-party program, the ability to use different backgrounds for each monitor was added in Windows 8 (or possibly 8.1).
So, I just ran a fullscreen game, and when I exited it the Fences on Display 1 were now showing the correct background, but the test fence I created on Display 2 was showing the background from Display 1. If I disable translucency the problem goes away, so I guess that's the fix for now. Thanks for the help!
We are looking into a solution for this. Thanks for the report.
I have the exact same problem. If it is any help, I am also using DisplayLink software with a docking station.
Thanks
Same issue here. Windows 10, 3 monitors.
I've got fences on the 2nd and 3rd monitor.
Initially, the translucency looks OK, but when the background images change, the fences seem to use the background of the monitor to the left (So the fences on my middle monitor use the background on my left monitor, and the fences on the right monitor use the background of the middle monitor)
For now, turning off the translucent option makes things look OK again.
Just adding a +1 that I too am seeing this on my Winders 10 machine. It's not a big deal, the rollups have a different background, it's not performance impacting but it is aesthetics impacting.
I poked around in the settings to see if there was anything specific that I could change to force monitor awareness but didn't find anything there.
The easy fix is to just right click on the desktop and to pick "Next Desktop Background" which then resets the fences background to the current desktop picture. The slightly longer but easy fix is to either not have rotating backgrounds or to setup Windows so that the desktop 1 background changes right after desktop 2 changes.
Based on what I just explained and how the image looks I suspect that it's a simple fix in the code where the current method gets the latest desktop picture that just updated and then calculates the X Y position on monitor 1 and then displays the picture from display 2 in the box on display 1. The fix should be a simple update so that the roll up and fence is aware of it's position on monitor one and tied to the desktop of monitor 1 and the same for any roll-up/fence on desktop monitor 2. Then if a desktop image changes it does a check against what monitor the fence is on. So if desktop 2 wallpaper changes, the fence on desktop 1 says false for displaying the updated image since the fence is on desktop 1. If Monitor 1 desktop image changes then true for displaying the new image area since the fence is on monitor desktop 1.
I'm having this problem as well, it is very annoying.
In addition, sometimes the alpha channel won't work on the rounded corners and it makes white squares where it should show through to the desktop.
I did, however, just find that unchecking the Setting "Translucent Fence backgrounds (Windows 10 only)" fixed both issues.
It was worth it to pay for the upgrade from 2.x to 3.0, but please make it work right before you ask me for more money.
+1, Same thing happening here, 2 monitors. Every time I right-click on the desktop and click on "next desktop background" the fences on all monitors display the blur/transparency of the background my desktop just switched to. Wich makes it the wrong blur/transparency for 1 of my monitors as that one is still displaying another wallpaper. When I repeat the same process. the fences on the first monitor display the wrong blur/transparency and this keeps switching.
Kind Regards,Wissam
I have exactly the same issue, when upgraded today to version 3 of Fences.
I use 2 monitors and observe that:
1. On monitor 2, Fences uses the wallpaper of monitor 1 for the transperancy , there is also bad refresh that leaves leftovers when moving fences around the desktop.
2. On monitor 1, Fences flips the wallpaper of monitor 1 vertically , so it doesn't look good either.
Is there a solution to this problem ? please let me know when its fixable. otherwise , I might downgrade back to Fences 2.
BR & Thanks,
Eyal

A few more observations on this issue that I too experience...
I use windows 10 with two external monitors for a total of three screens...
Since the two external screens are different resolutions, each screen gets a different wallpaper when using themes and the rotating background feature...
It appears that the last monitor to swap the background is the background used for windows 10 transparency regardless of whether the fence is on that screen or not.
If I right-click and choose next background, the blurred image swaps to be the positional blur of the background of the monitor that just changed -- instead of only updating the transparency if the image change was on the current monitor. So in my case, every three image swaps, the transparency is correct, the other two times it is wrong...
Exactly the same problem here. Windows 10 with 3 monitors. Fences version is 3.0.1.
The dev team is working on this.MS has not made it easy for external software to know what is going on. Turning off translucency should make things work better while we see what can be done.
It is now February 28, 2017 - almost 5 months since the October 10, 2016 update that dev team is working on this.
No fixes or updates to this yet?
I'm running windows 10 with Fences 3.0 the fences background does not match the wallpaper screen. It is only fixed when I disable Translucency.
Please advise and provide a status update on this issue.
March 9, 2017: I've upgraded my Windows 10 machine (w/ 2 monitors), and I have the same problem. If I turn on the transluscent option, the fences on both of my screens show the background from just one of the screens. Since I run wallpaper of different backgrounds on each screen, this can be rather jarring. As of now, the translucent feature is turned off. I don't see much difference now between F2 and F3, and I wonder why I spent the extra $10.
Anyone ever figure out a way to fix this or have we heard from Stardock? Just purchased Fences, and I'm already disappointed.
I've been testing the trial version of Fences 3 when I noticed this annoying bug.
Observation: When going into the Personalize Background settings the background of the Fences flips to the right one for a couple of seconds and then flips back to the background on the second screen.
Still an issue 5/22/2017
We expect to have a beta out soon with a number of fixes.
Still an issue on 3.05 beta
In my case the issue is caused by this option:
Take a look into that option, not sure if it works for everyone, but it's worth a try.
