Subjectively, it seems to me that quite a few bug fixes have been put on the back burner while a push is made for some profits. Okay, business is business. But as a player, it is a wee bit frustrating. So I have a suggestion.
Have 'kickstarter' type donation options for various bug fixes AND upgrades. Players want to be able to design the carrier fighters? Set up a donation box to pay for the time it will take to make that happen. Players want fleets to have permanent names? Set up a donation box. You could allow players to set up their own donation boxes for things they want to see, although that could get messy.
This would also (somewhat - obviously not all players have the same cash resources) help determine what issues or updates players most want worked on or addressed. Obviously if something is suggested that you don't want to ever happen, you can just state that from the outset: "Sorry, but we don't plan on ever doing that, so we won't be accepting donations for it."
As an aside, I'm noticing quite a few typos in the diplomacy dialogue. The word 'time,' for example, has an 'e' on the end of it.
I like the idea actually. But i think it would work better with a voting shstem rather than a cash shstem. Players cluld vote on features they want, and the devs would focus on the top ones for that month. Every month the vote would get reset and same thing again.
also, for the thpo. I remember drening (probably mispelled that><) "tim" instead time
Ha ha, yea, that's one I saw. And my name happens to be Tim, and at first I was like, "What the hey?!".
I suggested donations instead of just a vote because it deposits money in the SD coffers, which frees them up from being forced to work on expansion content so they aren't in the red.
I love added content, but there seems to be quite a few things that are current issues that players want addressed, and despite several months, have not been. To whit:
1) sound bug
2) fleet names
3) designing carrier fighters
Plus just simple house cleaning stuff like typos, or when the diplomacy dialogue window pops up you see the old one for a moment before it flickers to the current one.
The kickstarter would help direct SD to areas that players feel should get priority while alleviating them from financial strain.
The problem with the financial plan is that not everyone is willing to buy the game, buy the dlc, and also pay to have it fixed, or pay to get certain content onto a dlc and then have to buy it. Plus, as you mentioned, not every player can do this even if they wanted to due to finances.
And so lets say 1 out of 100 players does chip in. How much would it have to be per player to actually make it worth Working on for the dev team?
The dev team is still working on the game, and updates have been released quite a few times since release, many of which included fixes and items that were brought up by the community. More updates are planned and are in the works and will continue to be for quite a while.
Hey Island Dog!
I don't think were saying updates will stop or even slow down. Just talking about giving the team a focus.
