The crew here at Stardock cares a lot about our community and the games that we produce for you.
That's why we're pleased to announce that version 2.20 for Galactic Civilizations IIis available for you today!
Even when a title is "finished" and put out to market, there are always little things we find that could use a tweak or a change here and there. We also know what it's like to enjoy an old game so much that you keep going back to it, even when there are newer and "better" versions of it out there.
With help of some awesome community members, the Dev Team has taken all of the suggestions and implemented them into this update. You can find he entire change log (spoiler alert: it's long!) at the bottom of this post.
A few words from our CEO and President, Brad Wardell:
"It was awesome being able to work with the fans to integrate years of their own mods and tweaks into the base game. They also gave me a long list of areas where they thought I could improve the AI, which I used to dig into the now 10 year old AI source code base to implement."
We hope you enjoy the update. We have an awesome community here at Stardock and are so very happy that you're a part of it. Have a great holiday season!
Special Thanks
To Antonio "Mabus" Invernizzi, Gaunathor, SilasOfBorg, Kamil "OShee" Bober, DARCA1213, Sam "MarvinKosh" Edwards. Steffem "Maiden666" Jenter, MarvinKosh, Leiavoia, Frogboy and everyone else who helped out!

Keys from your Stardock account doesn't allow you to activate your games one Steam, they are just DRM required when installing your Stardock games. Stardock keys use 6 groups of hexadecimal numbers, Steam use other formats.
Adding your Stardock GalCiv 2 to Steam, via the add game option, is just like making a shortcut to your desktop. It won't helps with upgrading to 2.20 through Steam.
If it is just about waiting a few days, it is not that big an issue, especially as I wasn't aware of this forthcoming upgrade. But in that case properly syncing the upgrade mails when the download links where operational is just so simple and elementary, it would have saved trobles to many people.
Anyway, I'm grateful for the upgrade and long term support. Big Thanks for all peoples who contributed to this upgrade
I wonder do Stardock have an arrangement with Steam to delay the release of updates on their own site?
Perhaps in the hope frustrated customers will go and buy the game again on Steam to get the fully updated version.
Besides GC2-UE, you've GC3 also available at GOG (i.e. drm-free), with all its related DLCs.
Please Stardock; don't leave your fans that have been with you since GalCiv2 was first released hanging. Tell us, "We're working on it" or "You guys ARE being left behind...buy the Steam version." Ignoring us is poor customer service.
They'd solve this problem easily by just giving us a Steam key. They know everyone that owns the game and expansions, so get some programmer to whip up a script that determines that, then put a Steam key for Ultimate in our account. I know...reasons.

Same as the others. Got the email but no patch available on my Stardock account
For me, the email has some problems. Clicking on any of the supplied links makes Google Chrome report that the certificate authority is invalid, and if I access them anyway through a work proxy (McAfee) then the site shows as being flagged as "Spam URLs".
I didn't even get an email. For those that got it, do you have the Ultimate Edition (I bought all the pieces separately)?
I think i downloaded it from elsewhere according to mabus or altarn (awesome guy) I'm not sure it was so long ago and that computer crashed. I did a search and i think you can link to it from mabus on Utube - don't hold me to any of that. I'm going to recheck it. I can't remember how i got the link exactly or if it was 2.20 but it was this year.
checked and only see the older awesome mods of twilight that he did. If you didnt try em they are great. And custom races i think too Lots of fun with the custom races he made. I found a version later that said only good on win7 or later so i must be missing something. maybe someone else can find it.
found a community update 6.0.2 in my archives - perhaps that was the upgrade I remember . I hope i did not waste anyones time.
file:/Community Update/M... v6.0.2 but i can't find the mod description on the site now.
i have the ultimate edition too and prefer to play offline and OWN my games. Like someone said the good ol days. Seems now everyone wants you to rent everything. Thanks to the guys and gals that have kept up this game !! I only have time for 1 a year and it takes a month because I'm oc and take one turn at a time micromanaging everything LOL.
I bought GalCiv 2 UE through Impulse, IIRC, and I'm not seeing a v2,20 update for my game through either the My Downloads page on Stardock.com (showing v2.04), or through the GameStop App (also v2.04).
I wonder why no one from Stardock has posted an update here about the patch
as to when it will be available on Stardock
Hi guys,
sorry for the delay. I'll check and see whats up with the direct link. Stay tuned.
Thanks Brad...and please make sure it's for both the Ultimate Edition and those of us that bought the pieces separately,
We are working on getting it updated on the Stardock store as well and are planning to have that out next week. Thanks again to all the community members to helped put this together.
a while back, i downloaded the official fan patch, that had a new .exe file. I forget exactly the way ya installed it, but it needed that file to make it all work. I'm pretty sure frogboy helped out with that.
Now with this new update, i am unsure if i need to use the old file? Or should i just run the steam patcher to update to the new files on steam? (the steam fix option to me, might work)
Basically i am just curious how i get it all working after using endless mods for years. Do i need to disable the mods, and then just run the vanilla version, as it looks like it also was done with work from many of the mod makers.
I'm almost tempted to just do a fresh install.. but i don't wanna loose all my custom ships. (i forget where they are stored) at any rate, how do i get this running
thanks for the continued support
Hi, I have the same problem. Download setup.exe 2.04.017. After instaling version Galciv2.exe = 1.53, GC2DarkAvatar.exe = 2.01, GC2TwilightOfTheArnor = 2.04.
Can you help?
Thanx Martin
The "official fan patch" is the new update. The exe included was a test version. The new update encompasses all of that. Yes you should disable mods.
Where is the file for upgrading to version 2.20? Maybe he's doing something wrong? Thank you!
Stardock's store has not been updated yet.
How long must we wait? Logic says that it announces the update and IMMEDIATELY becomes available .......
No updates even on GameStop ..... Perhaps one of the two recordings should not be done?

Somewhere in thhs thread a week was mentioned.

Uhm. The GameStore apps been discontinued for long time. Don't expect any updates there. Get your key from the GameStore app and use it to register with Stardock so you can get the game directly from them.
Oh! So I can remove those from my computer? I've got "GameStop App" and "GameStop Now" listed.
Yeah same problem can't find the new update.
The update went on Steam first. As above it needs to be packaged for other places (our own included). We hope to have it updated on the Stardock store page this week.
Kryo, can you please confirm this will be updated for both Ultimate and those who bought the expansions separately?
Those with the expansions or previous digital versions may contact support for assistance: https://esupport.stardock.com/index.php?/Tickets/Submit
We do not support the Gamestop app and would unfortunately not be updating that. However, if you've registered GC2 Ultimate with Stardock, we got you covered and you can contact us above for assistance. (You can register here still: https://www.stardock.com/accounts/login?page=register )
We appreciate the time this community has taken to update GC2, so please let us assist in any issue you have getting the latest version. Thank you!
