I am bored at work and felt like making a list
It might be useful to the devs to know what games other than SC2 the SC2 fans like, so it isn't entirely a fluff thread.
Mine are...
Computer games
1. Star Control 2
2. Civilization
3. Sierra's Front Page Sports Football
4. X-Com
5. Team Fortress
Board Games
1. Star Fleet Battles
2. Mega Supremacy
3. Avalon Hill's Acquire
4. Federation & Empire
5. Avalon Hill's Blitzkrieg
Diablo 2
I played Diablo II for many years. I really suck at ARPGs by most standards because like playing them in what the better players consider to be a "newb" way. I don't do temporary leagues, only play standard, and just have a stable of characters I try to gradually turn into "stupidly unbalanced gods walking the earth". I have recently got into racing a little in PoE, and can't even understand how it is possible to do as well as the top players... a sure sign that I am really, really bad at it. It's one of the few games I love playing even though I am terrible at it, haha.
Have you tried Path of Exile? It's free, and 10 times more like "Diablo 3" than Diablo 3 is.
Well, it looks like a few of you may have been playing video games as long as I have.
Battlefield 1942
Sins of a Solar Empire
Star Control II
MOO (Master of Orion)
Sub Battle Simulator (anyone remember it?)
Probably in that order. There are probably a few I'm forgetting.
Heya.
5 x PC-GAMES
1. Star Control II - Because under the spreading shadow of the final night, amidst all the sorrow and tragedy, a tiny flicker of hope yet remains. Do not be dismayed, for old hierarchies shall come crumbling down and slaves shall become masters. Lo, the dawn of salvation will come. You shall be free, free to swim in the sea of stars, free to dive across the galaxy, free to reach for your destiny. Pkunk we are and this is our prophecy of the past, now and forever.
2. Planescape Torment - I appreciate the limitless imagination and creativity, brilliant storytelling and spells that make things go Boom
3. World of Warcraft & Age of Conan & Diablo series & Borderlands - Sometimes it's nice to adventure with friends
4. GTA-series - Some men just want to watch the world burn
5. System Shock & Doom & F.E.A.R. - It's fun to be scared and alone in the dark
5 x BOARD-GAMES
1.Rune Quest (tabletop rpg) - During our campaigns we saw things you people wouldn't believe. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain
2. Descent: Journeys in the Dark (2nd Edition) - I can't get enough of story-driven campaign games
3. RoboRally - This game... It's just chaotically hilarious and we laugh our asses off every single time
4 Twilight Imperium & Expansion - There are just so many fun thingies inside the boxes
5. Talisman - My first own adventure game. It has a special place in my collections
X-Wing (series)
Zork (series)
GalCiv2
Outlaws
Offworld Trading Company
Star Control 2 (3DO version)
Serious Sam Series
C&C
Mass Effect 2
Close Contenders…
Dragon Age: Origins
Fallout 3
Battlesport
Twisted (with a group of inebriated friends)
Streets of Rage
Gladius (xbox version)
I'm praying somebody remakes Battlesport.
-"He's got the ball!!"
-"Fumble!!"
OMG!! This game was so much fun!!
I have been playing this lately, Hunam, it is very good.
http://www.bloodbowl-game.com/
I like the Lizardmen, Orcs, and Dark Elves.
I was about to leave the last spot empty, but even though it doesn't have as big emotional value as the others, it is the best strategy game I have ever played and earns the spot. This even with starcraft being easily the game I have played most.
I did like that sbradfor mentioned BF 1942 in his list, but even though I liked the game and played it really seriously, as a game it can not get to the top 5 , nor can baldurs gate and neverwinter nights, though they made a good job too.
Star Control (Series), Star Control 2 (Individual Title)
Mass Effect (Series), ME2 (Individual Title)
Elder Scrolls (Series), Morrowind (Individual Title)
Command & Conquer (Series), Tiberium Wars (Individual Title)
Wing Commander (Series), Privateer 2: The Darkening (Individual Title)
1. Y's for sega master system
2. Lunar silver star for Sega CD
3. Iron soldier for Atari Jaguar
4.Star control 2 for 3DO
5.System Shock 2
There are list of honorable mentions and depending on the day some of them might make this list.
Uncharted waters for sega
Street fighter series for suoer nintendo.
Dragon warrior for nintendo
Zelda for nintendo
Many others.
1) Centurion Defender of Rome (Amiga game)
2) Birthright (1990s PC fantasy game that combined Strategy in ruling a kingdom and fighting/allying with others along with RPG style adventures) game based on one D&D setting. The mass battles were pretty poor, but the rest of it was good.
3) Daggerfall
4) Mount and Blade (when mods are added)
5) Eye of the Beholder
I see a lot of similarities in these lists, and they are not unlike my own. Thinking 5 best ones proved to be too difficult, so here are those 5 and a few others in no particular order:SC2WoWFreelancerCiv IV, VMass Effect -series (and most of the stuff from Bioware)GTA Vice City (and the whole series)Space Quest III (and the whole series)If you count CiV out, all the others have great great stories.
The top five is clear as day:
1. Star control 2
2. Star control 2
3. Star control 2
4. Star control 2
5. Star control 2
the rest, i loved dune II westwood really put in their passion which created life in the game, the atmosphere, sound, the world, the units was a perfect balance for creating an immersve atmosphere, yes space quest for sure as well, hero's quest, Rex Nebular ! monkey island, loom, kings quest, on the side i liked test drive and the game stunts (where you created stunt tracks for stunt cars)
The cnc series is good, but cannot be compared to westwood's first cnc creations which was ultimately RUINED by ea, but still i did enjoy the cnc by ea just not as much as i would've if westwood survived. the first few cnc's were really good. i like far cry especially # 2 as the african atmosphere, environment and sound was really REALLY immersive and the characters was very good, the other far cries had a feeling of disconnect, (however havent tried the himalyas one yet)
o and Of course wing commander and star wars pod racer.
o thats it...... just gotto add some more classics
Golden Axe, Double Dragon
commander keen
ironman, that off road car racing game
rampage
ghost n goblins, ghouls and ghosts
No way i could choose just 5. So I am going with top play times ....
1. Europa Universalis 4
2. Crusader Kings 2
3. Galactic Civilization series
4. Distant Worlds
5. Sins of a Solar Empire
This very hard for me to choose but out the top of my head I would go with:
5. Rocket Knight for the Sega Genesis
4. Sonic the Hedgehog 2
3. Skyrim
2. Ratchet and Clank 3
1. Chrono Trigger
Hi... Whoever you are SFB player? Would I know your name, I am "that Romulan/Orb guy" Marc Michalik.
Master of Magic... it was so awesome even though it was so broken, kind of like Blitzkrieg!
So... Oddly-enough, my favourite kind of game I tend to quit in favor of competitive games. But I dump more cash into my favourite games.
1. Heroes of the Storm
2. League of Legends
3. EVE Online
4. Dragon Nest
5. Lost Saga
(ArcheAge, Overwatch and Super Smash Bros. Melee would be on there but the communities sucked for various reasons.)
1) Chrono Trigger - This game will never stop being king. The most amazing blend of game design elements ever come together. (special shout out to Super Mario RPG, not listed because it's too similar).2) Arcanum - The story and atmosphere. Never get tired playing this game over and over.3) Final Fantasy 7 - Don't get me wrong, 6 was amazing, but 7 forged amazing territory in visual design.
4) Dishonored - In my opinion it out-Thief-ed Thief. Not only does the game have an incredible story and art design, the gameplay is incredibly dynamic, and I'm excited to try the sequel out.
5) Dragon Quest Builders - I know it just came out, but it does Minecraft almost perfectly for RPG fans.
I may have forgotten of an old favorite but this are the favorites I remembered.
1) Half Life 2
2) The Elder Scrolls: Morrowind
3) The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
4) Fallout 3
5) Battlefield 2
Ultima Underworld: The Stygian Abyss
Doom (1993)
Homeworld
Morrowind/Oblivion/Skyrim
