It seems Stardock are very bad at communicating. We're four months on from the release of Windows 10 and we don't know when WindowBlinds 10 will be coming. There's no ETA. Will it be this year? We don't even know if it is weeks, months or years away. We've no idea if any work is being done on it - I am sure it is though.
What would be nice is a little explanation of the problems and an update on progress.
We all knew Windows 10 would mean a large proportion of Windows users would upgrade. We all knew there was a limited, ahem, window for users to upgrade for free. We're almost halfway through that now and there's no sign of WindowBlinds 10.
For those of us who had WindowBlinds installed on Windows 8, we saw the skinning of the main windows worked fine - it was just the taskbar giving trouble. Now I don't for a moment think that means that that was all there was to do, but it's not like you had to start from scratch, does it?
The forums don't give any information other than it'll be coming at some point. Most of the replies given to people wondering are to blame them for upgrading to Windows 10 and to suggest that things like the TH2 November patch may change things (even though those replying have no idea if it did or not).
So, please, give us some indication of what's going on.
bodabar, I see no reason to close the thread. Support threads are closed if/when the posted problem is resolved. This is neither a problem nor a resolution.
What lekofraggle mentions in #75 is the gist of the issue. Since 8 and beyond, Microsoft has dumbed-down the GUI to the point of ugliness/banality. Restoring functional aesthetics is always going to be difficult.
Eloquence in English/communication will still often fail to portray emotion/feeling without tags/emoticons as the written word would otherwise be far too verbose for simple conversation.
Emoticons are thus universal in Forum/site communication features.
My one of choice is the 'wink' as it's light-hearted -
If I post none it's an indication [for me] of annoyance...
This is good info. After all these years, I hadn't quite gotten that.
I will not forget.
And all this time I thought people were flirting with me, Damn! [e digicons]:'([/e]
In all serious it would be nice if they all had a full description on mouse over because half of them I do not know what they mean.

And this is a good reason why there should be a delete button.
Lot's of good comments but I think part of the frustration is you pay for something then it takes a long time for upgrades and by then your subscription runs out and now you have to shell out again for a new subscription to get it. I wonder if it is planned that way? Hmmm...
That is nothing more than coincidence.
That's just silly. The only way that could work is if everyone's subscription started and ended on the same date. That is not the case, as we all know.
I've just found out that the New Year always seems to fall on January 1st - is that some weird freak of nature? Whatever, it's totally awesome!
I do not have Windows Blinds right now but have used the trial versions in the past and liked all of the different themes and I was going to purchase but then Vista and Windows 7 came out and I was satisfied enough with Windows Aero. Microsoft just seemed to have got it right with Aero but now with Windows 10 its like they just all of the sudden collectively said, lets ditch Aero and go back to a plane boring and ugly GUI. Wtf where they thinking! Anyway it gave me great inspiration to come back and look at Windows Blinds for a solution but I was disappointed to see no Windows 10 support yet. So I am just letting you all at Stardock know that I am anxiously waiting with money in hand to purchase Windows Blinds once you release the update for Windows 10 support.
Actually on the 1st of Elul. (א׳ באלול)
I believe that at some point, someone (team?)in the Windows dev. team decided that Aero was a bit bloaty, and a bit dated. Look at all the current array of mobile os versions (from all the major players). They spent years developing beautiful transparencies, overlays, and transitions just to flatten it all into a world of ugliness. They claim it is in the name of speed, and these things do typically require a smidge of extra processing power, but I have been running transparency, layers, and smooth transitions on all of my computers for years just fine. Now, for the most part, computers are more powerful, and software is more streamlined than ever.
It's odd, the places where I see the most implementation of layers in modern day software is in the highest taxing programs. Things like pro tools (and other sound engineering software, the Adobe sweet, etc, and even Some of the modern coding programs like Android Studio (which has such a nicer interface than Eclipse). I think it is because the companies in these industries know and appreciate the importance of a good aesthetic.
This is all just conjecture mind you.
I have never asked for an ETA. I don't expect one and I don't think it's realistic to proffer one. I certainly haven't demanded one. The only person who has mentioned timescale is whoever wrote the page indicating that WB10 was coming soon.
All I asked for is some kind of communication as to progress, if it's possible to give such. You must have noticed just how many posts there are on the forums asking about WB10. It would be nice if there was some explanation of what's happening. People aren't asking because they're stupid; they're asking because they simply haven't heard anything. Many of us have subscriptions to Object Desktop which continues to tick down towards expiration. Sure, we didn't have to upgrade to Windows 10, but we only have a limited time to do so before we have to pay for it.For those of us who had Windows 8 and had Windowblinds installed under that, we saw what happened to Windowblinds when we upgraded to Windows 10. The windows were skinned just fine. The taskbar was all screwed up, but the windows worked. I'm sure that underneath, there are greater problems than there appear to be though.
It's a pity that the Windowblinds developers aren't more forthcoming. You've revealed more information about what's going on than anyone else so far. Hopefully this will stave off some of the many questions asking about Windowblinds and Windows 10.
I have a little over 300 days left on my sub for ODNT. When WB10 does come out it will be included in my sub like Start 10 and Deskscapes 8.5. If not, am I worried about it, no. If I have to pay a little more then so be it. I live on a fixed income, making far less than most people in a month. The extra bucks aren't going to bother me one bit. To me its worth it. Period.
Guys, maybe I will ask a stupid question or I simply don't see any use for most of the programs in OD package for me, but why do you subscribe for OD for the monthly subscription fee when you can buy the individual products you need, well, individually, for small fixed price? They are not upgrading these products, like, every other day, I presume, and new Windows version also happens only so often (once in 3-4 years, at least), so why to pay every month when you can buy whatever you need just once and use it with the same FREE updates? OD existence as subscription service really puzzles me, so maybe someone will explain the need for it FOR THEM?
I, for example, bought Start8, and then upgraded it to Start10 with a discount. Also, I've bought WindowBlinds8 and will upgrade to version 10 when it will be available, hopefully also with discount, and that's it! No monthly fees, and no worries
because while updates might be free. next version isnt.
but you also get beta access to the next version with subscriptions, which in turn sometimes has fixes.
also some of us use alot of the program and it would be costly to buy each program and each program again when new version comes out.
Object Desktop includes a host of programs and thus is the most economical option if/when you wish to use all or many of them - and have access to their Betas.
The option to purchase individual programs is simply to accommodate those who may only wish to have/use one or two...
I use several programs so I pay the yearly subscription. It's the cheapest method for me. I'm not interested in beta tests or anything like that.
If I was to buy WindowBlinds on its own, I'd have to pay for WindowBlinds 8, then WindowBlinds 10, etc. Stardock now regards WindowBlinds 8 as effectively a separate product from WindowBlinds 10 - they're not just updates of WindowBlinds. So a WB8 owner doesn't get WB10. And when you add in Start10, IconPackager, WindowFX, etc, it all really starts to add up.If everything is working fine on my system and there's not some new version of Windows coming along, then I can let my subscription expire and just keep using the software. But I am getting less use out of a lot of Object Desktop these days, so I may drop down to just buying WindowBlinds and forgetting about the rest.
Thanks for your replies, guys, I thought something along those lines...
well to be fair as well you said new windows comes out every 3-4 yrs.with windows 10 its now every month and its supposed to be the last windows ever changing or some crap
You can also get ObjectDesktop for a yearly subscription rate, which is a bit cheaper, and, as was stated above, access to betas.
You, as with many, are just looking at making Windows a bit prettier, and more useable. Most of us old timers who go for the full package that is ObjectDesktop are geared more into customization.
