Rolled Down Fence
I also have this similar problem.
Also Layout snapshots do not restore to the correct screens (3 monitor setup) after using single laptop monitor.
I currently have 4 issues with and 1 suggestion for Fences 3 (2.91).
Issue 1) This is a really small one. Why can't we place the fences on the very top of the desktop? There remains a gap between the fences and the upper border.
Issue 2) I, most of the time, can't drag a file over a program if it is in fences. For example if I drag a picture over Photoshop it gets immediately opened by Photoshop. But if the Photoshop shortcut is in fences this only works rarely. Because if I drag the picture (or another file) all the shurtcuts in the fences get invisible (most of the time) and the fence is in the "copy the file into the fence" mode. Fences should check if we just want to drop a file onto another one like in normal desktop use or if we actually want to place it in the fence. If you are worried that it would be to hard to place new shortcuts in the fences this way, it would be cool if you drag a file over fences, if there would appear a bar in the fences with a " + " where fences knows if you drop the files here they get integrated in the fence. I show you what it could look like:
If you drag a file over fences a section with a " + " could appear, suggesting that you have to place the file onto the " + " field to add it to fences. If the user doesn't drop the file there and drops it instead over a program, it should open normally in that program. I don't know if this is possible and how fences is working but it would be a great improvement.
Issue 3) After changing resolution and then changing it back the fences aren't on the exact same position. They are off about 2-4 Pixels and thus only show 2 shortcuts per row for me instead of my adjusted 3. I have to manually readjust them every time. Make the fences bigger again for about 2 pixels and move them to the right to align with the fences next to them. This happens a lot after playing a game (where resolutions sometimes change).
Before resolution change:
After resolution change:
I have the fences locked by the way.
Issue 4) This issue is the worst. I don't know why and when this happens. So I sadly can't write a detailed bug report. But I know that this happened in the past 1 month about 4 times: Sometimes when I open up games, documents or other things within the fences and then later create new files on the desktop and change the created files name, fences copies some of my (I think) recently used files from the fences and puts it on the desktop. The worst part: They all are renamed to what I renamed the new file. So I have to rename every single shortcut. For text documents this is tedious, because I have to open them up and figure out what their names were. After that I have to sort the shurtcuts in their fences egain. If this bug happens there are usually about 4-5 of the shortcuts from the fences affected.
Suggestion) It would be great if we could place the fences vertical on the sides of the screen and have the fences roll up to the side. My perfect photoshop.. I mean paint skills show you what I mean:
Besides that I am really happy with fences. Thanks and keep up the good work.
Translucency behind Fences Feature seems not support DreamScape. Can you make Fences auto go top when hover !
Hi, I'm having an issue (now solved), using latest build etc:
Switched to a new Internet provider which broke all my network links on my Desktop, which in turn caused Fences to not be able to load anymore which in turn caused Explorer to crash every 30 secs or so, until Fences would give up saying it noticed Explorer crashing and was turning itself off.
It would of course bog down the whole boot up process freezing the Explorer bar until Fences gave up each time.
Deleting the links to dead network locations fixes the issue.
I googled it up, and found out that other people already reported this issue back in 2013 here, on older Fences and Windows versions.
It seems that the devs are not even reading our posts.
Have one more issue: I have the trash bin in a fence. After I empty it the trash bin is on my normal desktop again.
I have this issue as well.
What is the spacing like in the config?
What happens if you disable that setting?
