I have been using Fences for a long time. After upgrading to Windows 10, I found that I nolonger can move shortcuts from one place to another on my desktop. When I try to move a shortcut, all I get is a round circle with a slash.
I have the same problem. This seems to be part of what is a (fatal) flaw in Windows 10.....no ability to drag and drop. There is no way that Fences can be compatible with Windows 10 without the ability to move icons (shortcuts, folders, files etc) to where you want them. If Fences release 3 can fix that, you will have my loyalty for life....
Same thing here.
I am a fan of Stardock products but fences has never made sense to me. I can place as many shortcuts and in any order I want to on my screen. I do not do that because there are only a handful of shortcuts I use so a dock or maybe 2 docks work just fine. I used fences a couple years ago for about a week and uninstalled it. Perhaps what I said is not something Stardock wants to hear but I buy Object Desktop which I do highly recommend so the choice is up to the individual if they wish to install Fences. For myself I don't need it.
I believe that only a few folks use all of the Stardock products at any one time. A few of them do similiar things though not identically in the same way. They are all good in what they do. Could they be changed and functions added, sure, but I think then you lose the uniqueness of each.
Okay, sorry took this off subject. Sorry.
Its a valid point Philly.
I guess I will give up on Fences. I do have a method that I do use and it's FREE.
I create a few folders on my desktop and name them for various categories.
That works too or if you want to get real fancy you can even change the folder icons to match. Another option is to create a wallpaper with square or rectangle sections on the wallpaper to place the icons something like what I done in this shot. I made the top to look like a dock but it was just added to the wallpaper with Photoshop.
Are you using the Free Fences or Pro version? Both are incompatible with Windows 8/10, and not supported.
Not according to :

They are not compatible with Windows8/10. The Fences app listed there is Fences 2 (It's actually linked in the Fences name to the website.) I'll update the text so it's less confusing.
I was using Fences version 2 on Win 7. After the upgrade to Win 10, I had the same problem with the inability to move any icons. Uninstalling Fences fixed it. I think a refund is due or fix it!
Did you reinstall?
I don't see a purchase on your account as of late, so I'm not sure what refund you would be seeking.
I haven't re-installed yet. I purchased fences under a different email address. I'll give it another try.
I just re-installed Fences 2.13. It appears to be working properly and I am able to move icons freely around the desktop. I have seen quite a few others who have had similar issues with Fences and Win 10. Perhaps its something that should be looked at.
I have same problem too. I reinstalled and upgraded to 2.13 but still cant move icons. I changed my antivirus and firewall softwares a few days ago. Might be an incompatibility issue.
I tried a couple of remove/install procedure. And while 360 security installed Fences doesn't work properly.
Yes, 360 Security causes issues with Fences.
It's interesting that you say that. I also had 360 Total Security installed recently, and it detected a problem with a non-Stardock program (Better Explorer). I wonder if the issues above are not actually related to Stardock but could be a ransomware problem. It can cause fake warnings. Ransomeware can take control of the PC disabling users to do things like open certain files and folders, cause programs to crash, and other harmful things.
Also, I had Fences and 360 Total Security installed at the same time, and I never had any problems with Fences.
I have 2 computers both with Windows 10, One works ok with a purchased fences 2.0 which is all I can get access to and the other locks the icons, I cant use it for that computer, and thats the one with the most desktop shortcuts.
Something is wrong somewhere in something.
Make sure you have the latest v2.13 updat.

Also, make sure you are not using 360 Security.
I am and I have no Idea what 360 security is.
Right-click a Fence, select View, and make sure it's not locked.
Otherwise, please contact support.

There is no LOCK in the view setting, only Opacity settings. And ALL the icons on the desktop are locked. I cant move anything unless I uninstall fences on this computer. I was able to draw a line around some shortcuts and create a fence, thats the only way I can get anything into a fence.
If he's talking about the right thing, 360 Total Security is a free anti-virus software. I know because I use to use it.
Island Dog, are you sure that 360 Security is what's causing problems?
Sorry Wrong View
No its not locked.
When I right click or left click on an icon and drag it I get a circle with a line through it.
