Balance and Gameplay
Mega Events
Special galaxy wide events that introduce new challenges or opportunities.
Mega Events are spawned randomly and under certain conditions.
The frequency of Mega Events is set under "Game Settings" when you start a new game.
Example Events:
Gold Rush: Strange subspace wave has been opening space-time rifts and dropping extremely valuable artifacts across the galaxy.
Land Rush: A mysterious explosion has created a shockwave that has converted several previously dead worlds into habitable planets.
Wormholes: Survey teams are reporting a vast increase in the number of wormholes in the galaxy.
Anomalies: Survey teams are reporting there has been a sudden spike in the number of Anomalies being found.
Paradise Worlds: Rumor has come to us that several previous class 26 worlds have been discovered.
Resource Glut: A breakthrough in assorted mining technologies has greatly increased the number of resources we can harvest.
Distant Resources: A breakthrough in deep space scanning has been made. As a result, we are now able to detect previously unknown nodes of Antimatter and Elerium.
Tech Breakthrough: Independent researchers have a new technology and are sharing it with entire the galaxy.
Pirate Colony: Pirates have started their own colony on a barren planet.
Added 3D printing support to GalCiv3. You may export your ship designs locally or export their ship directly to a 3D printing service (Sculpteo - http://www.sculpteo.com/en/).
AI Improvements
AI will now decommission defenders if it has too many and it wants to make room for better model defenders.
Ship designs were upgrading too often for the AI because the AI was constantly changing its mind on which defense type it wanted.
Fixing an issue where preset ship blueprints were only using point defense.
AI will build better ships to defend their planets with "best defense" system
AI will rebuild AI fleets to optimize logistics
Added in-game registration process for Stardock Games. Registration of any Stardock game is rewarded with a free GalCiv 3 DLC. Elite Founders automatically receive the Registration DLC, but are still encouraged to register.
Added support for uploading custom maps to the Steam Workshop.

Another happy customer
Evidently not. I'm on 1.2 and my newest game just stuck on "Idle Ship" on turn 91. Like the other times, there are ships under the planet icons that didn't go into orbit. Saving during the game freeze, exiting and reloading still works tough.
Anything more than a single digit on resources shows up very wonky and unreadable on the top display in all screens.
I would suggest the resources display needs to be expanded as it is quite possible to end up with multi digit amounts of resources depending on the distribution and cultural traits selected. In fact this display should be able to handle triple digits easily, the tooltips show up correctly but the display panel is broken.
I love this patch news, especially concerning AI and events. I hope much more will be done for the AI though. I haven`t played for a couple of months and a bit since I realised the AI wasn`t actually ready yet.
Just one other thing: Why the ability to print ships out in 3d? I just checked how much one of these 3D printers cost. It isn`t cheap by a long shot. Who, except some guy with more money than sense is going to spend that much on a 3D printer for a game? And how many gamers seriously own one of these things already? Not many I bet. Seriously, couldn`t the resources for this be engaged on actually making the game itself better?
Oh well, I suppose one could send it off, but I hope that isn`t expensive.
There's actually a growing number of us who are interested in 3d printing. Owning a printer is coming within reach. As more people buy them and the market increases, they'll become cheaper. Think of LED light bulbs. When they first came out a few years ago, they were dim and expensive. I just bought a bunch of them for less than $2.50 each and that wasn't on sale. A couple of years and they'll be ubiquitous.
The devs showed how you could do that through the game in the last Dev stream. A basic ship runs about $12 (US) which isn't bad. Obviously, a bigger ship with more detail and using different materials changes the cost.
Avatar137,
Can you send your save game file with the UP issue to pshaw@stardock.com and we'll take a look.
Deathwynd,
Can you be more specific about what resource displays are not working for you? If possible, can you provide a screenshot as well as your resolution and UI scale settings? Thanks!
Sure, I am talking about the mined resources in the display panel at the top of the screen.
This screenshot is taken at 1920x1080 resolution in a small UI.
Thanks for the information. I'll have the team look into it.
Still not crazy about how the game chooses defenses for the default ships. It went from choosing all missile defense to using all laser defense. Not much of an improvement imho. Personally, I liked the way it was before where the default ships would have a balanced defense based on what you researched.
FWIW, it used to be able to handle triple digits flawlessly in previous versions of the game. I'm actually a little concerned what happens when it hits four digits, as I suspect can happen on an Insane Map.
Yeah I suspect they changed some of the screen formatting, possibly when they added medium UI size.
I've been seeing this a couple of times in my current game. The Terrans planet icon disappears from the diplomacy screen:
Just spotted this misaligned text while talking to the Iconians:
btw: Is it save to continue old games (and will they have the fixes) or is it better to start a new game after the update?
Its probably best to start a new game. Just my advice.
Still no Morale re-balance I see
I didn't see it listed, so I'm guessing it hasn't been addressed yet...the issue where Guard is turned off every time a new ship joins a fleet. It's really tiresome. Also didn't see anything about the issue where some medium ship hulls don't appear as buildable until Large Hulls is researched.
Thx Stardock for the Improvment on the AI. I was able to take down several AI Empires in the early stages of the game and snowball from there on without any resistence.
Hopefully they don't die now so easily on early aggression.
That beeing written i finally want to unload a few bugs/ideas i've encountered/thought of since beta:
- the bonuses in the malevolent ideological traits for relentless and ruthless (motivation2+3) also applies to your first created colony. Makes early aggression and fast expansion very easy.
- not really a bug but ships move around your own shipyards, planets or space stations when they considering movement. They should move through these "obstacles" on their own, considering them as moveable space.
- This Bug is in since the opt-in: Hive cost Zero MP and cant be rushed.
Have noted that when the resource totals in the resources box (top right to left of mini-map) reach double figures they are no longer highlighted, have to hover over the resource to check remaining balance.
Lots of public and university libraries are making 3D printing available to patrons, usually at pretty near cost of materials and operation. I've seen some models produced at the university library near me, things like a decent skull with some texture, that cost only around twenty bucks.
Of course, some ship designs call for a great deal of texture, which would run up print time. The shop I've seen bills for a combination of thread (think paper plus ink) used and print time.
My guess for the future of the market is that any widespread home units will be mainly for testing models using the cheapest input materials (and probably much slower printing times) while really good prints will be cheaper per unit through public/pay-per-print systems.
I played hundreds (tens of hundreds?) of hours of GC2 and never put much time into making my ship designs pretty. The 3D printing option might change my mind about that, though.
Anyone else having issues loading new saved games? Played about 25 turns with 1.2 saved a few different times. Went back, tried loading each of the saves but each one gets stuck on the loading screen.
Also, what is this box supposed to read? I get two consecutive ones at game launch.
