I played the game for hours, but found that i don't get a ida what ships are gonne be build, possible with the researchThe menu's of the ships are one long list and the same for the building on the planets..no filteringNo help for the possible building goals on a planetThe research tree is a endless tree to choose from and i get no direction there what i am after for ..sayfor example building a assualt ship
It feels all ..aimless with the sparsemanimenu and also the shipdesigner is minimal as it seemsA userunfriendly experience.. iam hoping that it will be improved in the future updates
Makes that i am not forelooking to play again a new game...a poor experience
well... in game almost apsent strong separated ship classes and ship roles. You shoud to set ships` roles by yourself in designer.
start with colony ships.
most non warships have a description.
I agree that the interface is not very ergonomic, especially when it comes to the long lists that have no filters or groupings.
However, the open nature of the techs and ships is part of the concept. There are no goals or aims to build certain ship types or improvements, because the player is supposed to explore the possibilities and find out what works and what not. It is up to you, to research technologies, design ships and find out what is good.
Of course this is somewhat confusing for new players, however the tutorial gives the basic knowledge.
Hmmmm, the aim are the victory conditions, the fun part is supposed to be figuring out how to get there.
playing as the terrans as well as needing medium hulls you need armor and kinetic weapons for the frigates and you need beam weapons and shields for the corvettes to be unlocked the same goes for other premade ships you need to unlock the techs that go with the ship hulls. The main thing with the ship designer is that your supposed to design your own ships and put your own weapons and defences on them? well that was the impression I was under since GC2.
Thanks
"It feels aimless"-- i mean by this that it is difficult to achieve a certain goal It seems that the GC3 revolvers around the starbases... to get a idea what types of starbases are possible in the research tree.. is difficult to get a clear picture from this by extracting the knowledge from the research tree.
Power .. a another civilization has more power..how to get more power ( how is this measured/defined )?
It seem s to be also necessary to research something?..no escape from this ( in my case i don't know anymore what can contribute.
You are basically correct. One of the major weaknesses of GalCiv2 and now also GalCiv3 is that the game has far too much *differentiation* and far too few differences. So there is tons of tech tree bloat, ship design bloat, etc.
I get the feeling that Galactic Civilization 3 is too difficult made and is not user friendly enough.
You're right in the sense that the game has too much fluff.
The goal of the game is actually really simple: build colony ships and colonize worlds. Period. That's all you have to do. Choose "Terran race," and on every new world rush build a shipyard. Then use that shipyard to build more colony ships.
Let me repeat that:
PUT ALL OF YOUR ECONOMY INTO MILITARY PRODUCTION AND BUILD COLONY SHIPS AND COLONIZE WORLDS. DO NOTHING EXCEPT BUILD COLONY SHIPS AND COLONIZE WORLDS. IF YOU DO ANYTHING ELSE IN THE FIRST 30 TURNS YOU ARE PROBABLY PLAYING THE GAME WRONG.
In other words, the object of the game is to get as many colonies as possible. If you do that you've won the game. DO YOU UNDERSTAND?
DO NOTHING EXCEPT BUILD COLONY SHIPS AND COLONIZE NEW WORLDS. Have I made myself clear?
Eh ..militair production is building militair ships, right ?Ok, as much colonies as possible ..and only using colony ships ..
Keep it simple..winning the game with 30 turns seems to me a boring game to play with
note: i must definely be improved the user friendlyness GC 3by using smarter screens
I play now with 8 civilizations and my homeworld is attacked in turn 286 .. i don't have build hardly any militair ships, because the hull size and assult ships are to get in the designer for a new shiprole and furthermore the shipdesigner is a hassle too for now to manage) and no decent starbase management caused by the research tree.Question: a starbase ..what can it do at the start of the game without the research tree?
I quit this game now and start again with the focus on colonising (the current game has 10 colonies with only one colony left 40 % approval)... also the colony buildup is going too fast with me i think.I restrict myself to 10 techies, but for the coming 30 turns only colonizing and maybe winning the game... that is hardly game play? I don't aspect it is gonne be this way..but must be very careful not to go too fast..and the research is keeping asking, so i must get the basic techies for a colony clear in my mind ( wealth, approval, .... what else more? )
Early expansion is one of the keys to the game. It is not the only key to having fun with the game. When the galaxy is filled with settled planets, having more planets than anybody else makes everything else easier. When you get better, add more AI players until you get the challenge you want. Then you can try to overcome their advantages.
Being attacked in turn 286 sounds like you had plenty of time to research and build a military fleet. My practice is to research at least one military tech between each civilian tech. There are better ways to handle that, but it is a good start. I research speed techs, enough to get survey ships, and then the largest hull I can build. By that time, I have hopefully met others enough to get an idea of what weapons they are using. That decides what defenses I will research. Choice of attack seems less obvious to me, so I often pick missiles because I like them. I max out one weapon and put a little research into the others.
By that time, I am way behind on military strength, so I get very busy putting out the newest and biggest I can. Then I start looking at what I can do for support ships and other things to be found in the tech tree. I recommend exploring and trying different combinations. It is the only true way to learn what will work for you. Remember to research the techs that get you additional capacity. Nothing makes a ship better like more room to put stuff in.
I don't understand what troubles you having with the ship designer. If it is problems designing and moving parts for good looks, check the forums for a couple videos out there. Still, trial and error is the best way to learn. I recommend having a kid help you. Their view of the shapes is very different, and together we made some wonderfully silly things.
If your issue is deciding what equipment to use, then I can only give you my present strategy, which is still changing as I learn the game.
Add engines. No good building them if they can't get anywhere in time. Add weapons. I often pick one weapon type per ship. How many weapons is enough? There is never enough. That is the problem. Isn't it? Take your best guess. I like to end up with more weapons than defense. Add defenses. I like to either concentrate on a defense type according to my current opponent, or, if I am not fighting anyone at the moment, spread the defense across two types per ship. I find I don't need as much range as I used to think. Sensors are always taken care of by a nearby sensor barge. (If you don't know what that is, look around the forum. It caused some interesting discussions!) I have to repeat: this is just what I do and I am not the best and I will be changing as I learn.
Last but not least, research logistics techs. Nothing helps a ship like more ships.
Enjoy the game. Be sure to make plenty of mistakes. You may try things we never thought of and come back to teach us.
Thanks!
Well i am getting now more and more deeper in the game mechanics and it is rather complex handling this GC3.i start over again with 8 civilizations and i am now involved with a enemy who is taking starbases and getting more influence ..but luckily a United planet meeting makes that the civilization cannot trespass temporary the borders.Stong enemy.. and the fleetlogistic was not enough to form a fleet..increasing this logistic with more research. The homeworld is protected by a starbase with a militair ring and some 4 more starbase focussed on economicsOn every colonised planet a planetary defense system, otherwise it will be attacked easily i think (as i compare this with a unprotected starbase what is attacked inmediatedly )
Also the victory conditions...i can choose one, but it says nothing about the opponent what he is choosing as winning conditions? ...striving a winning condition ?Stupid that i must think about this..well it is not complette clear for me how this exactly works
How many colonies did you get compared to the AI?
I look now..it are 15 colonies ..all set on Economic stimulans to get rid of the condition to build something all the time on a colony.
I try to get a annexed colony back and i did it ..automatically ?
Now i spread out (by exploring)( i try ) from the homeworld a lot of constructors... taking mining positions and militair enforcment positions, because i did not much with the constructors till the enemy came. ..turn 434The victory conditions...technology victory: current standing 7 of 9 current leader : iconian refugee.... how to stop them ?Ascension victory : 5 of 9 : iridium corporation
What civilization is closest to a victory..how to ascertain?...wel i can formulate a victory goal, but if another civilization has a another better one victory goal .. i must then adept my victory goal( there are also % written ? )
Now i am attacking all enemy starbases in my terroritory with large ships ( fleet of 2 )
bump
i will lost this..
Perhaps a strategy to resist this with constructors ?
My power is the lowest of all 153 ... how is power defined..or how to improve my power ..quick ?
START A NEW GAME.
IF YOU BUILD A FACTORY OR ANYTHING ON YOUR PLANET YOU HAVE OVER COMPLICATED THINGS. RUSH BUY SHIPYARDS WITH COLONIZER ON ALL OF YOUR NEWLY COLONIZED PLANETS. FOLLOW THESE DIRECTIONS:
1. FROM TURN 1, SET ECONOMIC SLIDER TO MILITARY 100% AND PRODUCTION 100%. BUILD COLONY SHIPS FOR COLONIZING (30 turns). YOUR COLONY SHIPS SHOULD BE SENT IN RANDOM DIRECTIONS (TOWARDS STARS). IF YOU SEE A COLONIZABLE WORLD, COLONIZE IT AND PUT A SHIPYARD THERE TO BUILD MORE COLONY SHIPS. IF YOU ARE RESEARCHING ANYTHING OR IF YOUR PLANETS ARE TRYING TO BUILD BUILDINGS, YOU'VE MESSED UP THIS STEP. GO TO STEP 2.
2. BUILD CONSTRUCTORS FOR CONSTRUCTING ECONOMIC STARBASES (1 CONSTRURCTOR PER STARBASE. 3-4 ECONOMIC RING STARBASES PER PLANET. IN OTHER WORDS, EVERY SHIPYARD SHOULD BUILD 3-4 CONSTRUCTORS FOR THE CREATION OF 3-4 ECONOMIC STARBASES AROUND EACH PLANET). ONCE EVERY PLANET IS LIKE THAT, GO TO STEP 3.
3. TURN SLIDER TO RESEARCH TO 100% AND GET LARGE HULLS AND BEAM WEAPONS ASAP. GO TO STEP 4
4. TURN SLIDER TO PRODUCTION MILITARY AND BUILD BEAM BASED BATTLESHIPS NON-STOP FROM SHIPYARDS. PUT 3 OF EVERY BATTLESHIP YOU BUILD INTO A FLEET. GO TO STEP 5
5. SEND FLEETS AROUND THE MAP AND DESTROY EVERYTHING AND ANYTHING THE AI HAS IN SPACE FOCUSING ON AI SHIPYARDS AND STARBASES. THEN WIPE OUT THEIR REMAINING SHIPS.
6. DO NOTHING ELSE. IF YOU BUILD A FACTORY, BUILD ANYTHING ON YOUR PLANET, IMPROVE A STARBASE, OR VIOLATE THESE DIRECTIONS IN ANY WAY YOU HAVE OVER-COMPLICATED THINGS AND PLAYED THE GAME WRONG ON NORMAL.
Start a new game and follow directions.
These directions are provided to be AI-proof. As in even an AI could follow these steps and win.
Thanks !
Let me try to understand this...
What you're probably trying to do is to try and mess it up. I guarantee you: that will be difficult to do. Even the AI (probably) couldn't mess up with these directions.
At the end of the initial 30 turns, let me know how many colonies you got and what your map settings where and difficulty (which I'm assuming is normal, standard map size, number of planets, etc. etc. Correct me if I'm wrong).
Oh yeah, one other thing:
You start with 5000 money. Starting from turn 1, RUSH BUY COLONY SHIPS FROM EVERY SHIPYARD UNTIL YOUR MONEY GOES UNDER 500. THIS WILL DRAMATICALLY SPEED THINGS UP.
FOR IDEOLOGY, GRAB ALL BENEVOLENCE (THE RESEARCH LINE AT THE BOTTOM). GET NO OTHER IDEOLOGIES UNTIL YOU HAVE GOTTEN THAT RESEARCH LINE OF BENEVOLENCE FILLED. THIS STEP WILL ALSO SPEED THINGS UP LATER.
IF YOU ACCIDENTALLY START RESEARCHING, SET ALL OF YOUR RESEARCH TO GET LARGE HULLS IN ENGINEERING ASAP. FOLLOWED BY BEAM WEAPONS.
Thanks again for the additional strategy handling !
The starbases collecting the money needed for building the warships and a colony has no building as i understand.
When comes a point in this strategy that there is a building needed on a colony in the areas : ( wealth, influence, approval etc ) ?
Never, really. The base game favours wider empires over highly-developed ones to such an extent that an empire with no buildings and 60 planets with 60 shipyards will dominate even the best 30-planet empire through sheer weight of population.
If you know how to, customize your race and get the "Patriotic" super-trait and the "Colonizer" super-trait.
And in the customization options get Fast +2 and military production +20% to build faster moving ships.
That's all.
WITH THESE TRAITS (which might be overkill already), FOLLOW MY DIRECTIONS AND YOU DON'T NEED BUILDINGS ON YOUR PLANETS.
