As I just learned, the legendary "Master of Orion" series, which I personally consider to be a forerunner of Gal Civ 2 and 3, will get a sequel:

The studio/publisher behind this will be wargaming.net, famous for its "World of Tanks" series.
Yup. You will always do better in battles than in auto resolve. Somehow people see that as a reason to not have it at all. Though as we know from moo that it does not ruin the game for hard core conservative TBS players because 20 later they still get goose bumps when moo is mentioned.
More or less having some more control in combat (and having the camera work properly) would definitely make things alot better for galciv. Currently we have alot of variables and things that play a part in combat but it still looks like galciv2.0 with brighter colors for the most part.
end result being galciv is captain of the TBS boat right now and we will know if moo will be playable and unique like it was. If not, we know how fast word around the web spreads.
Agreed on the autoResolve vs RTS, it would take a lot for the AI to adapt (it would need a killer focus fire algo, and positioning algos to make the best of own and enemy fleet capabilities). It wouldnt be the Manhattan Project however. SD2 AI during RTS does a pretty decent job. Its weakest part it focus fire.
However, if I had a wishlist, it would be to create ships like in SD2. I'm right brained, not left. I would enjoy doing that, hoping to optimize ships, rather than spending time on how my ship looks, which is inconsequential to gameplay. Granted, the base engine for ship design they have built will lead to MANY cool 'looking' ships and races which I hope are shared with the community, which by far is the biggest factor in its replay-ability strength.
I'm right brained too!!!
While I like the shipyard I wish the components had more depth of meaning in the game. And yea fluff is nice but compared to what other things the game needs, they could have spent less time on that and more on AI/completing a few hundred other items.
