What should I do?
I'm a master level chess player and I day trade as a hobby and so according to my code of ethics, I CAN'T not min/max. I've tried to change the AI to Synthetics on Godlike and I make two AI to work together and be on the same team. Nothing works. The AI is too dumb. What should be done?
I want to have more fun, but I can't. Aaaaaaarrrrrgggghhh. They made the AI too dumb.
Try putting more AIs in a smaller map, so you have less time to prepare.
Then what's going to happen is I'm going to choose Malevolent and invade their planets before they're ready.
With the constructor into colony ship trick, and Malevolent free frigate and free 5 transport ships, I can begin invasion preparations by turn 15. All I need is enough colonies to get 4 ideology perks and I can get 7 colonies by turn 10.
I would also change out the Patriotic super trait with something else, like zealot or "more extra colonists upon colonization."
Expoits are not such a big issue IMHO. They do exist in any game. The thing is that if you choose not to use them, then the game is still streamlined. You develop to medium sized hulls with 2nd or 3 rd level weapons plus biowarfare and you crash nearby AI. Repeat as many time as there are AI on the map. With changing game mechanics, making ships and bases cost resources this can be made slightly less easy.
Also ship construction has mostly decorative function at the moment. It looks great and great job on graphics, but functionality wise I just always go with prebuild ships. Because I am winning all space battles anyway. Not sure if much can be done here. Except for making fights as per Stardrive 2. There the fights are just spot on.I watch youtube videos for Stardrive mostly to enjoy different ship designs and how they behave in battle.
Tech tree pace - I should try to put it on fast or other way around. But on normal I never get to 3rd age. Everyone is destroyed before then. AI seems to also think that research is no longer needed from the middle of the 2nd age. Even if it is not at war. It just starts doing something else. And there are not many things you can do at that point.
I believe the intention of this game is to be a space empire sandbox, not a competitive strategy game, so try to learn to relax your strategies and roleplay a bit (ie don't prey on weak neighbours, don't colonize in their space, and actually try using treaties and trading etc) If you absolutely MUST exploit the game mechanics (you must be a munchkin) then it sounds like you really need to mod the game, which is absolutely ok. Nerf the hell out of the ideology traits you've been using, and buff the AI.
Just a question. What level are you playing on?
He said he's playing against AI Godlike all Synthetic... My question is why are you only playing against synthetic races? There are many types of games you can play against, try playing against Godlike factions and at the same time fill the galaxy with factions, so on a tiny map I believe the cap is 20, medium 40 Large 80, and stay at whatever the maximum races are for the map so you really only have your home system maybe one other before you can no longer colonize anything, then see if you can beat the AI quickly.
Otherwise, I would suggest creating a ticket to Stardock outlining how you have exploited the game to make it too easy so they can fix it in a future update to make the game more fun for you.
How my threads are you going to start with the same topic. Yes we know you think your a God among gamers and your a day trader. Yes we know you say you are more Godlike than the Godlike setting you play the game on. Blah blah blah.. Oh wait you have yet another thread with the same complaint. Can't you just keep it on one thread?
At least 3, I would suggest to Stardock that they lock 2 of them as they are all on the same topic about the game being too easy and full of exploits.
Can you win using any other traits? You could roll random dice and pick traits that way. Otherwise, you are letting yourself become a one trick pony. No chess master I know of would want that to happen to their game. See if there is something else you can break magnificently.
Actually, I think some good could come of this. Please consider sending your saved games and whatever exploit you used to the developers so they can close the hole. Good for you for finding the problem. Now please help the rest of us by letting Stardock know what you did.
The rest of us don't give a rat's ass if you can cheat at a single player game and "win". We don't care how you did it. But Stardock might.
I think you're missing out on the point of a game like GalCiv3 if you're looking for an automatic win button. You lose the immersion and the fun gets sucked out of it. That being said, you can still contribute to the community by sending the information privately to Stardock.
What's your Metaverse URL? I'd love to see some evidence.
I'm sure it's very possible to do all the things the OP is claiming. God like AI can't get close to a minmaxing human, even with all its bonuses.
That said I don't think the OP is making a fair comparison. This is still literally the first release build (with a few tiny updates). Let's compare to 2 games with a great reputation for balance - sc2 and dota2.... Both of those had big balance issues during vanilla launch. Give the devs some time and the benefit of the doubt.
I don't think the point of this game is microtuned balance - it's a space empire simulator, not an esport. Although that doesn't mean they shouldn't fix the biggest issues and improve the AI!
I am very skeptical regarding him winning on Godlike. Surely, he can play a game on say medium to conclusion and submit it to the metaverse.
During GalCiv II there was always "that guy" who said how easy the AI was and when we finally get them to submit a game it was only because they had exploited the heck out of the game beyond any sort of resemblance and of course had turned off FOW.
Play as Terran alliance against a few AI players on medium on Godlike to completion.
He claims that he gets so bored that he just quits. Hence no evidence.
Exactly.. Lot's of Blah, blah, blah, "I'm a god"(but you aren't) but no evidence at ALL.
I'm not calling you a liar, but I don't believe you.
Edit: To be clear, referring to OP not Frogboy.
Only 0.7% of games are completed at the highest difficulty level, most of which are defeats for the player.
Someone saying the AI is stupid or easy on a forum requires no effort. The stats, however are the stats.
When I first read OP it sounded like a Frogboy alt writing a parody post
I agree would be much harder without a custom designed race.
Terrans are a particairily poor choice - their racials aren't very strong, although their tech tree isn't bad!
But I can easily see how exploiting a long list of bugs or "unintended features", and designing the "perfect" race, etc can lead to some silly outcomes.
ie, the whole take the 3 constructor and upgrade to colony ship thing is clearly an unintended exploit. Just by doing that you are already "cheating" so to speak...
Whenever I complete my Insane Gifted game with 90 AI I will then attempt to beat on Godlike, Being Insane takes forever, I don't expect this to happen for a month or two
I can't count the number of times ive given up on insane maps! The amount of micro required after a while gets out of control. Also you are screwed without patriotic if you go for military victory.
Started a medium map the other day, much more fun. I colonised about 1/4 of the galaxy and while I am miles ahead, it's still very interesting.
will probably start a godlike game on the weekend, and play without any of the blatant exploits. Although I might use a custom race. see how the AI stacks up.
Overall though it's a great game.
It is an exploit, however, it is a sacrifice, I find myself using this in games where I am going to be able to colonize 20-30 planets at the start of the game, then only wishing I had constructors to use for resources. In a game with few planets (less than 10) at the start of the game, I don't use that strategy because it doesn't really benefit me that much, if any.
Actually, Frogboy - you should make a challenge based on what you said above! set some rules like:
1) large map
2) all 8 predefined races
3) godlike
4) you must play one of the predefined races
5) min-maxing is ok, but no cheese - ie sensor buoys, 3 constructor exploit, carrier spam, etc.
You'd either be proven right, or you'd get a ton of valuable balance and AI feedback!
I am on insane now Seilore and I just flipped to turn 201. I am just about done with the entire tech tree. All AI are normal except Drengin. Limited Planets but for me it still seems too many. Patriotic with Ancient and relics set to 'occasional' is a bit over the top. I am generating WAY to much research now and get any tech once per turn. I did focus my planets and I do have the IV benevolent research tier. I allied with Altarians, the Yar (custom synth race) and the Iconians. I made some nasty races with Patriotic as well to see how well they do and they are expanding as I wanted.
Power levels. The 'normal' races at this point are all about 345 and equal. I am 1565, the Drengin are 1380.
I am about to start my first full scale war on the Drengin who got gifted. they have hundreds of ships and I only have several dozen however mine are top of the tier where his are mass drive focused and middle age of War. I am REALLY looking forward to battles iwth his fleets. He has many large fleets sport about 180 mass drive attack and all defenses. I expect war in about 15 more turns.
Synthetics are slow to get started.
by attacking them so early you are taking advantage of a situation you created.
