Release vB2
This is a Faction and ShipStyle mod for GalCiv 3 - that is, it adds a new custom set of ships and templates which you can use in place of any of the standard races, linked to a faction. It currently features 20 ship models that will take you from Tiny exploration ships all the way through to Huge warships. These template ships can be used with or without the StyleSet modification and Federation faction.
Installation:
Version vB2 is now released, and can be downloaded here:
The main files of the mod are here: http://www.moddb.com/mods/starfleet-mod/downloads/release-vb2-code They go in your mydocuments\mygames\GalCiv3\Mods\ folder. Please remove previous versions of the Starfleet mod before installing.
The templates which make the mod what it is. http://www.moddb.com/mods/starfleet-mod/addons/release-a1-ship-templates These files go directly in your Galactic Civilizations III\Designs\ folder. Be sure to merge folders when prompted.
Content:
If you have placed these correctly, when you start up Galciv 3 and start a new game, you will see there is a new Federation faction in your faction list, and in the Faction creator the ShipStyle list now contains a new entry: Federation (Star Trek)
If you select this Faction and/or Ship Style, you will be greeted by a pretty new Constitution class exploration vessel instead of the standard Terran/Drengin/Altarian Survey ships.
Eventually, through unlocking the tech tree your fleet will grow to include all kinds of Starfleet vessels.

Wow thank you for that TurielID.
Did you manage to build the federation ships just with the bits inside the ingame ship designer ?
Bloody hell I thought you had actually modeled the hulls in wings 3d or something and then imported that in to galciv3. That's one hell of a good job you've done going of the screen shoots.
Thanks!
Yeah I made them with the in-game tools. It just took some practice
This was the first ship I made a few weeks ago:
After learning first that I could adjust part scale along each axis individually, and *then* learning that I could actually use parts from other faction style sets, this is the same ship about a week after that:
Just with practice and experimentation - I'm pretty sure you can make any ship you'd want with this toolset, and I'm hardly even using animation!
Nice!!!
Seriously thanks for taking the time to explain that to me i really do appreciate it o7.
EDIT: sorry to pester you again but besides actually playing a game all the way for and doing the research. Is there a way to get all the hulls and bits and pieces unlocked straight away so i can get to designing now ?
Yup. Just start a game (small galaxy, 1 oponent maybe), then open the console qith the ~ (`) key at the top left of your keyboard and type 'unlock all'.
That will unlock all research for all factions, making every hull size and configuration available.
Hey Turiel,
Thanks for the update. Just an FYI, I think you can add the gfx folder into the mod directory instead of having to put it in the actual game folder.
Aah that would be better, I'll try that out and move the folders for the next version! And apologies to everyone who's getting crashes when they try to change the ship designs - I'm getting it too and I don't know what the cause is
I only get the CTD when trying to edit a ship design or template if I'm using the Federation ship style. If I edit your custom race and change the ship style to Terran, then I can edit and save templates without issue.
I actually think this may be a game bug.
I added the gfx folder in my Starfleet mod and that file structure seems to work fine.
So excited if this ends up incorporating Klingons, Romulans, and the Dominion!
(Even cooler if the Borg are in!!!!)
I don't know much about modding but with the workshop patch coming up v1.1 we'll all be able to upload our templates to the workshop so anyone can use them and once I finish mucking about with federation designs I'll be working some Klingon designs etc ( I did have most of the races for ST on GC2 but the laptop I had them on got wiped) plus people such as MrStarTrek and Rand Johnson and others will most probably upload their ST designs to the workshop as well so were all have a bumper crop of templates to choose from?
Keep up the good work TurielD
Great Mod...one thing I noticed is when I try to order constructors from a starbase I get a message saying there are no constructors to build. I did notice your design misspells constructor.
I'm getting crashes when designing ships, but not all the time. The last successful attempt, I slowly added modules, and saved the game each few sets up weapons added. I think it might have to do with putting weapons on certain hardpoints.
The battles look VERY cool GJ on the mod, hopefully we can figure out the crash reasons. Like I said, I think its certain hardpoints that cause the crash. Just add one weapon at a time, save it, and add another. See if the crash can be reproduced.
Hmm that's possible. With the high number of parts the more sleek designs are made of, the overlapping surfaces/component intersects may be doing something wonky graphics-wise
So, I have a reproducible crash, when designing a Sovereign. 2 times in a row. If you want to try it yourself to investigate, add weapons on the 3 hardpoints on the left of the screenshot (I used disruptors, sorry Kirk ). The ship designer mirrored the 3 on the right. I think the problematic one is on the bottom left in fact, it was a bit tricky, like there was another hardpoint just by it (maybe one on top was conflicting??)
Nope, its the one in the middle left. I doubt that is the only one causing a problem on this model, but just adding 1 disruptor on the middle left hardpoint (auto mirrored on right) and trying to save, caused a crash.
Wow, the Sovereign is just borked. I can't add weapons even on the outter edge hardpoints, let alone anywhere underneath. I had a few problems with the Consitution Refit model, but nothing like this. I'm gonna have to use Jean Luc's bucket of bolts....
Notthat they will necessarily do anything right away except tell you that using mods is the problem, but it may be a good idea to submit a support ticket. Many of the CTDS in the ship designer appear to be game issues more than mod issues.
If you want to create your own edits of TurielD's FED ships, you can copy his custom race and change the Ship Style to Terran. Then use the create new design and all of the templates will be there. Editing the remplates this way seems drastically reduce CTD chances.
I infact already did that, as I preferred my custom Terran Race, but wanted his models. I am not using his designs, only the templates. The Galaxy and the Intrepid are crashing everytime I mount weapons underneath as well. The only one I have yet to find many problems with is the Constitution Refit model.
OK, I have a question. Were these models created on v1.02, and not tested on v1.03? I realized that you have LOT of models with weapons and defense upgrades, and you have the weapons all underneath so its really just a matter of fine tuning what you have for my situation. In fact, if I edit the Sovereign-D M1 model (disruptors, shields, titanium, point defense systems), and I immediately try to save it without making ANY changes, it crashes. Perhaps it worked well on 1.02, but not 1.03??
Not blaming you, blaming the ship designer system.
Cheers
Odd, I've had almost no problems on the Galaxy or either Constitution templates, no matter where I mount components. Maybe it is the specific components themselves?
Fook this. I've gone through well over 100 CTDs and havent been able to pin it down. The only thing I know for certain, is loading a template and then saving it (without any modules), will cause a CTD even on Stardock's models. My game is over, out with the mod. Sorry, I give up. Obviously not everyone is having this problem. Three points:
1) I am running steam
2) I put the Designs and Gfx data in the MyDocuments\MyGames\Galciv3 folder in the appropriate location. Having steam, I didnt want to patch anything manually in the steam directory (I later tried this, but no help). I think thats what in fact the mod wanted, for the Designs and Gfx to be manually copied in the raw Galciv3 directory?
3) I dont know if any of the above I did ended up corrupting my save file, not letting me make changes on these models anymore. Hard to say exactly what is saved in a save file, as its not XML, but rather binary.
-----------
UPDATE - after I patched the Galciv3 directory, under steam, I was now seeing the picture of Jonathan Archer in the races selection, when I start a new game. This hadnt happened when it was in the MyGames directory. Still, no luck on the Sovereign, or any Large model at all. Only the constitution model.
I'll reinstall my entire damned game, and install the Gfx and Design in the steam directory this time, but i would appreciate it if someone could send me a save game file, which has large and huge ships unlocked, so I can quickly try it. If that works, then I know it had something to do with where I put the Designs and Gfx folders.
Tilde key then type "unlock" will unlock all techs
Thanks, will try.
No joy. Same original problem with Sovereign, after full re-install, putting Gfx/Design files in the Galciv directory under steamapps, and using debug console to unlock all techs.
Is anyone running steam having problems with this??
