Release vB2
This is a Faction and ShipStyle mod for GalCiv 3 - that is, it adds a new custom set of ships and templates which you can use in place of any of the standard races, linked to a faction. It currently features 20 ship models that will take you from Tiny exploration ships all the way through to Huge warships. These template ships can be used with or without the StyleSet modification and Federation faction.
Installation:
Version vB2 is now released, and can be downloaded here:
The main files of the mod are here: http://www.moddb.com/mods/starfleet-mod/downloads/release-vb2-code They go in your mydocuments\mygames\GalCiv3\Mods\ folder. Please remove previous versions of the Starfleet mod before installing.
The templates which make the mod what it is. http://www.moddb.com/mods/starfleet-mod/addons/release-a1-ship-templates These files go directly in your Galactic Civilizations III\Designs\ folder. Be sure to merge folders when prompted.
Content:
If you have placed these correctly, when you start up Galciv 3 and start a new game, you will see there is a new Federation faction in your faction list, and in the Faction creator the ShipStyle list now contains a new entry: Federation (Star Trek)
If you select this Faction and/or Ship Style, you will be greeted by a pretty new Constitution class exploration vessel instead of the standard Terran/Drengin/Altarian Survey ships.
Eventually, through unlocking the tech tree your fleet will grow to include all kinds of Starfleet vessels.

Thanks for the mod it is great. I do have a question on how to mod the ship stats. I would like to mod the lasers and the torpedos. Which file would i find these in?
Those ships are very nice. I am so proud I actually remembered to "activate mods" to get it to work!
Thanks!
There's two ways to do that that I can think of, either you could modify the BeamAttack stat of Lasers, ParticalBeam etc in the ShipComponentDefs.XML file, or alter the tech tree - like TerranTechDefs.XML.
I'm currently using Terran tech for my federation faction, but am considering making a custom one. What you'd want to do would be something like add a Stats block to TerranWeaponsSystemsTech like so:
change to
So, by adding
<Scope>Global</Scope><Target><TargetType>Ship</TargetType><ShipComponentType>BeamWeapon</ShipComponentType></Target><BonusType>Multiplier</BonusType><Value>0.25</Value></Stats>
It would globally (that is, for the entire faction) change beamattack on all ships by giving them a 0.25 (25%) bonus; that would make all beams for terrans do 25% more damage as soon as they research basic military tech.
Nice, downloaded and straight into use
These are great. Can't wait to see you make more races,
When I try to redesign ships with this mod, changing the equipment load out, I get a CTD. Is that expected? Am I only supposed to use the ships that are in the mod?
That isn't intended, no... and rather unexpected. I've had a few crashes with it too when I've moved the template files around.
It may be related to this line in the patch notes?
Anyways, could you try designing a 'new ship' with one of the templates, see if that crashes?
Also, could you post the last few lines from debug.err when it happens?
Hi,
I'd like to think I followed the directions but I can't get this to fully work. I can get the title federation ships under the style option but nothing changes as far as the shown. I've went over the directions a few times and I'm sure I dropped them in the right place. I made sure I selected the activation of mods but nothing.
Any possible insight?
Oh and also, is there a way to play this mod under the campaign. Well once they actually show up.

In order to get galciv3 working again I verified galciv with Steam and renamed the galciv3 folder in my documents. Then the program ran, I could use the standard ship types and modify and save them without a CTD.
OK, it appears there is nothing wrong with the mod.
I had to reinstall the game, bring mods, etc. up to date, but then I did not have any problem modifying the star trek ships.
I checked this with 1.02 and 1.03. Apparently I was the victim of a computer glitch, probably from another dimension sent to bedevil me.
Thanks again for the mod, ships look great.
The ships look Awesome, just downloaded, Well Done!!Question about the Mod, which it looks like wassin or Bamdorf might have already touched on. Did you change core values or stats? I'd like to use your ship designs in my version of The Federation in my game I'm working on, but only the ship templates/looks. I don't want it to change anything else about the Federation I'm working on. They use standard game AI and stats/bonuses in the creator. Basically I just want to steal your ship designs and apply them to my Federation faction I've already made using the in game custom race creator.Does that mean I only need the files from your second link? Maybe I just got threw off by one of the above replies asking about modding ship stats and you didn't change anything and just made awesome looking ships.Seriously Awesome Looking Fleet. Again Well Done!!!Now I need the Klingon, Romulan, and Borg fleet desings
First off, thanks for creating these ships! GalCiv 2 had a pretty good ST mod and I was trying to figure out how it could be converted into the GalCiv 3 format.
Now to the problem - I downloaded the MOD and template files and placed them under the folders you specified. The MOD folder ("StarTrekFederationMod - Release A1") went under:
"C:\Users\<myname>\Documents\My Games\GalCiv3\Mods"
right beside the default "ExampleMod" folder that the installation program put here.
I also ensured MODs are enabled in the options. I can see the ship templates when I design a new ship but I am unable to see the Federation entry in the ShipStyle list when creating a custom race.
I am set up to Opt-in for the Beta 1.03 if that makes a difference.
Any ideas?
Hey all, I've been in Belgium for a few days without internet.
I'll be seeing to compatibility with 1.03 and working out some of the previously discovered bugs and missing stuff today.
Not at all. The mod does have custom blueprints for a number of ships, but uses the normal Terran tech tree and pre-existing modules. I gave an example above about how you could mod stats and change a tech tree, but haven't actually done so in the mod.
In future versions I intend to change a few things like the graphics of beam weapons (more phaser-appropriate colours for instance) and make a custom tech tree with alterations for flavour, but I do not expect to ever change any core game files - the mod files are all additions, ensuring maximum compatibility.
I'd like to use your ship designs in my version of The Federation in my game I'm working on, but only the ship templates/looks. I don't want it to change anything else about the Federation I'm working on. They use standard game AI and stats/bonuses in the creator. Basically I just want to steal your ship designs and apply them to my Federation faction I've already made using the in game custom race creator.
Does that mean I only need the files from your second link?
That's fine, feel free to use the templates without the mod .xml files, and yeah, that's all you need to grab
Oooo, does this mean we'll see some new race soon? I vote for Klingons!
That's awesome, brother. Again, Great Work. Killer looking Federation Fleet.
If you select this Ship Style, you will be greeted by a pretty new Constitution class exploration vessel instead of the standard Terran/Drengin/Altarian Survey ships.
Eventually, through unlocking the tech tree your fleet will grow out to include all kinds of Starfleet vessels.
Enjoy! Now, this still has a bunch of bugs (why is the defiant not showing up when it's supposed to? Where are the description strings for the Intrepid and Cerberus?)... they are being (slowly) handled
I hope you don't mind me asking here but is their a guide or something knocking about somwhere that shows you how to make hulls and import them in to GalCivIII ?.

I'm afraid I don't know how it worked in GalCivII, I don't think the ships we make in GC3 can be transfered back there because they use different components.
Sorry i meant to say galciv 3.
Hey TurielD , just noticed we have a new sub-section in the modding forums for ship templates. You should move yours in there too, you'll be the first .
Thanks for the heads up!
Aaah of course, sorry!
As for how to design hulls, Gauntlet03 made a pretty good set of youtube guides here:
Once you've created a ship, or a ship 'template' which is just the hull without any components on it, those will appear in your \My Documents\My Games\GalCiv3\Designs folder. If you copy those, or place other people's designs in that folder, they will be available for you to play with in-game.
Version vB1 is ready.
