Not sure how many people have had their eye on Hatred or not, but it comes out Monday on Steam for $20. The game has been in the media thanks to it's theme but honestly it's no worse than Postal, and games like GTA V have far worse content and activities (like Hookers, and then killing those Hookers for a refund). Then of course there's the one Call of Duty MW 2 airport level. To me Hatred is quite tame in comparison. It's not often I get into a isometric shooter, but this one looks extremely fun. The color palette and tone really set it off. All the environments are fully destructible meaning you can practically tarraform the fighting space for a tactical advantage. Blow down a wall for a clear shot at what's on the other side. Blow up a car then use it as cover. It's mechanics look to be really well done. It reminds me a lot of a arcade game I played as a kid and then later on one of the Nintendo systems, called "Smash TV". It was a violent twin stick shooter but it never caught any heat because it was a sci-fi futuristic setting, but the type of isometric overhead shooter has been copied many times since then and Hatred is only the latest to do so.Now if you feel like going on some SJW tirade about how evil this game is and all the blah blah blah that comes with that, please don't. I don't want this thread to turn into a flame fest or to get locked because of nonsense over people's differences of opinion on that. We all know what "opinions" are like and how they smell so there's no need for that.It just looks like a really fun, really cool, Game. It's just a video game. Of course I wouldn't condone anything like this in real life, just like I don't condone genocide in real life. Yet we bomb entire species out of existence every day in Gal Civ so we don't need any morality lessons here, ok.If you want to comment on the GAME however, please feel free. It looks like a fun little shooter with a pretty cool theme and a great physics engine to me. As for the main character, hell I have all that guys clothes in my closet right now...lol. Pretty sure I've seen his band play more than a few times as well. He reminds me of Peter Steele from Type O or Nathan Explosion from Dethklok/Metalocalypse on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim.Looking forward to this on Monday.
The gameplay sucked ass, it's just repetitive "go there kill X" until you choke on it. Graphics/theme is the only thing that stands out as ok in an otherwise tiresome drudgery.
All the publicity from people worried about the theme probably increased their sales by a hundred-fold.
The physics engine is nice but the bodies keep spazzing out. Camera and clipping on executions is terrible.
Played at a friend's. Check out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iWKSopTFf2U for some gameplay
Man that's Fantastic!!! TB has the totally correct mindset about all the hoopla as well. I like how he goes on about how good the physics engine is, minus a few minor snags. I can easily forgive the minor issues. The only part that looks like a design flaw to me is how brutal it will be to start a whole level over when you die unless you earn a respawn token, but, I do enjoy a challenge in these types of games.I'm guessing you said it sucked because you just don't enjoy these types of shooters too often and the stage objectives are bland? I can agree with that, as stated above it's not really a enthralling or deep experience, but then again neither is Galaga or something like the (old) Gauntlet. Nothing but kill kill kill get points. So yeah it's definitely not anything new or exciting in that regard. Definitely repetitive as you say, but all of these types of games are. Even Diablo is repetitive though it does have a lot of depth to it as far as character building and item hunting. Mechanics and quest wise it's still "click monster, monster die. Go here, fetch that." rinse recycle repeat. At the beginning of TB's video there you hear the "Antagonist" spout a line about hating politics and politicians, it's funny even though his lines are corny how many of them I agree with lol. I really can't believe the moral grandstanding over this. It's really stupid looking at the blown out of proportion controversy in retrospect. I can't believe the stink that was made over this and yet not a Peep from the Lamestream media against GTA V when it came out. Rockstar must have thrown around a lot of money after that "Hot Coffee" fiasco to get the media off their backs.Hatred still looks fun a hell to me. Like you said though it'll get repetitive fast. I'm hoping they might rework that respawn mechanic as well or I'll be playing on easy difficulty. Reflexes aren't what they used to be back when I had a controller in my hands. Either that or maybe there will be a workshop mod to make respawn tokens easier to get.I'm even more stoked now after watching TB's vid. First real gameplay I've seen. Thanks man
There's a whole play-through of the game on YouTube right here: DSR07Gaming For those interested. No commentary, just the gameplay the whole way through from start to finish. Only watch if you don't care about the minor spoilers. Also, the character swears a bit so there's adult language which is why I didn't post the videos themselves.Enjoy.
Aaaaaaand it's Out everyone!!! I'm running around like a mad man gunning down the fuzz. This game is a Laugh Riot!!! It's so over-the-top it's funny. Not a bad little shooter if I do say so myself. As was mentioned earlier in the thread though I wouldn't expect much as far as re-playability goes after you've beat it once unless you're one who goes for high scores and leaderboards and such.
