so something irritated me when i looked at the forum as of now. (steam workshop isn't available yet) there is no place to find currently mods made for the game specifically the faction mods. and even after workshop is added i think people might appreciate a place to find them here on the forums. i apologize if someone has already done this and i missed it i checked and didn't see it. (ive dones this kinda thing for another game on another forum) so at least until its released steam workshop and potentially longer if people keep posting links.
If you would like your mod added to the list please put in the following info:
TItle: (size 3 and bold optional)

Steam Workshop: (for when the steam workshop opens)
note: I will also be adding them on my own spare time when and if i find them. (I will try to notify you about the fact that i have added to thread.)

Batch Star Names
Author: Psiyon Category: Tool
So, unlike in GalCiv 2, adding new star names in GalCiv III is a bit... involved. Lots of XML stuff to deal with, and if you've got a lot of stars to add, that process can get super tedious. This simple program solves that problem.

Pleasure Planet and other unsavory planetary features...
Every space opera needs a planet or two that just happens to... heighten certain sensibilities. In a large mysterious galaxy, surely there are items and places which have the power to... distract one's mind. (Just ask Captain Kirk!) Never fear, Dumhed has done what most of you have hoped for without even knowing it... (or maybe actually wishing for.. in which case... don't admit it to anyone).

"New Faction Pack" (working title)
Author: pierreluc Category: Faction Pack
Here are 10 custom factions, with new alien art and (mainly) new logos. 9 are serious, one is for fun, but they all work. There is pre-existing logo art from a different author on this forum (which I can no longer find, oddly) that I had downloaded too.

This is terrific, thanks for sharing your factions and these additional resources!
Here's my current mods:
Category: Factions
Minor civilizations are weaker major civilizations This is a simple mod that slightly boosts the minor civilizations already in the game and makes them into major nations. They are still weaker than the actual major civilizations. This mod is good for big maps where you want a bit more civilizations on the map.
GalCiv3 Showcase Thread.Download here.
Category: Improvements
Terraform MoreThis mod changes the terraforming improvements into no longer being colony unique, but also reduce what the initial terraforming builds allow. This allows for more paced terraforming, but also for huge planets eventually.
Category: Map Defines
Bigger Huge MapThis mod changes the huge map to be a bit bigger as I thought the gigantic map size was too big and the former huge size too small. Thus I went ahead and increased the size of the huge map from 200 hexes to 356. For comparison a gigantic map sits at 512 hexes. In addition I increased the ability to zoom out with your camera as well on that mapsize.
Category: Starbases
All Starbases Can MineThis mod makes the mining ring and its upgrades into generic starbase modules. In addition the final modules for the mining ring no longer preclude each other.
Category: Technology
Longer Age of ExpansionThis mod makes advancing past the Age of Expansion require 30 techs. Always felt like the Age of Expansion went by too quickly.

This is a good call. It's more or less what we have in mind for the "Ultimate Sci-Fi War" mod. Instead of incorporating everyone's race mods into huge download packages I was thinking more a page like this except dedicated to just sci-fi races from all our favorite shows, movies, and universes. That way people can go to one page and pick and choose all the races and factions they want in their game, as I'm sure not all of us have the same vision of a "Ultimate Sci-Fi War" as we all don't like the same shows and movies.
so anyways because of the sheer amount of potential mods and that id have to update the download links hjere as well every time somthing is changed i am debating if there is better way to do it because i dont' want to list to be to huge or its harder to use then going to each thread in some ways.
removed due to edit
added all of these not final edit but close enough thanks for submitting them i don't know if im gonna change the setup even more but i think im leaning to changing up the format to rely on your shocase threads more if you have large amount or multiple files so i dont' have to be responible for updating them every time dropbox changes. when i did the thread for coh1 most of the projects were done or if they weren't they all pretty much used moddb so i just linked to download page let them worry about updating never had to use direct download links.
Here's mine
Xitak Commune
Author - In_stasis, Catagory - Faction, Status - working but WIP.
Personally, I think at this stage, at least for mods that are still a work in progress it would be better just to provide a link to the mod thread, with the Author, Catagory, etc.. That way you won't have to keep changing the link every time the mod is updated. Speaking for my own mod, I plan on making it have all unique Tech tree, ability trait and ship style which will take quite a few iterations. Also movie files if that option is given in the future some time.
There is also the possibility that changes to the game are made with a patch that could make completed mods need an update too.
Just my 2 cents, trying to save you and others unnecessary updating of things later on.
Yeah, that's probably a good idea. Then we can give a little description on what we have got there instead.
basically when i did the coh1 thread coh1 mods were coming to a close with the release of coh2 so i didn't hvae to worry to much about updates and what not basically it slipped my mind that id have to update them if it was a drop box and not something like mod-db or steam workshop. (i think indeed to update that thread speaking of which as several mods have made it to green-light.)
hang tight while i work on the format ive deleted alot of stuff in the process of editing.
so ive added a tools section along with a 4 or 5 mods i am happy with the new format as an added bonus i don't have to constantly update it.
edit: i have also included Sorentofts mods as one entry since they were all tweaks if that changes ill edit the entry accordingly. this will probably be standard poicly for when there are alot of mods instead of posting them 1 by 1 especially if they are all located on same thread.
i have added another mod as well as edit a bunch of the font sizes to make them more consistent.

holy shits its been awhile since i chcekd up here sorry about that. i got a bit busy with anothner site i use (i am now in charage of moderating there so i have less time.) also i haven't played this ina bit waiting for 1.1. added content below...
The problem with using a forum organization is there's no way to tell which mods are the most popular, and after a while they'll be so many posts it's impossible to keep track.
Stardock should just make an official website like Nexus Mod Manager devoted for modding for ALL Stardock games. It can't be THAT hard to program something like that, right? I mean it's just a website. They can copy the website template from NMM.
Thats what steam workshop is for, in v1.1. I'm still seeing bugs with downloading ships (need to restart game, always, and some ships just dont work), but the custom races in 1.1 workshop seems to work pretty well. It hot loads with no problem. The only "errors" I have seen, are that certain mods screw up the portraits, but you run into that issue with any custom faction mod.
Hell, the only complaint I have, is a steam design issue of their workshop. Its a pain to grab LOTS of races. No bulk selection, just one at a time. Maybe takes 15s per faction you grab. Thats not a Star Dock issue however, its steam. Nevertheless, its definitely no brainer for someone to install those mods, no need to even understand what a mod is. As well with workshop, you can sort by most popular, top rated all time, and most recent. I now see why it was such a priority for star dock to get this into place.
Heh actually running a major modding site like nexus is a huge amount of work, check out the sheer number of downloads they have for skyrim alone.
In regards to the workshop its partly down to preference and partly down to functionality dependent on the particularities of a given game. For things like torchlight and beyond earth the workshop is kickass. For things like skyrim if yer not wanting alot out of it the workshop if fine but if you want to run a ton of very high end mods with minimal headaches and maximum compatibility you need to go to something like Mod organizer, even Nexus mod manager falls on its face after a certain point.
I think what with the workshop becoming available soonish for mods, there isnt much point in them creating a new site for mods at this point.
For now I have started posting mods on the nexus and relinking them here, I plan to make them available on the workshop when that becomes available.
I am having some issues with the workshop and I am pretty sure it's on my end. Several of the factions don't display any images. One of them is the Vulcan faction that has been dl over 50 times so it must be me. I can't figure why most work fine but more than several don't.
Any way you could update this like they do on the paradox ck2 threads, with what version each mod is updated to?
