Hi all!
Here's my custom faction the (see "Mod_Parts" below). A space-faring Insectoid species that hopefully won't bug you too much. Yeh! I know corny as, sorry about that
There's still quite a bit to add to it yet, but I think its at a stage where it can be shared so why not.
You may use the images to create your own factions if you wish. Please give credit to yours truly if you do share your faction using them.
Critique, good or bad appreciated. Will update as time goes by.
Update; added Xitak tech tree. Is very similar to Thalan tech tree but with Unique buildings :- Bivouacs, Formicary & Super Colonies in place of Hives, Gia Theory, and Mother Hives.
Not 100% sure what to change value wise for these, to try and keep them balanced. Ideas welcome.
Also added bonus's to Extreme colonization Tech similar to what the Yor have that accompanies the adaptable ability trait.
Update2;
Fixed race logo dds. Now has the correct name and shows better on map.
Added tech branch to exploration - Cybernetics
Home world now has own unique trait - Industrial world. There is somewhat of a unique art for the system using in game assets.
Star name no longer has "Name" as part of it and is only Xi as it should be.
New unique ship appearance gradients. For now not in Mod as the GalCiv III gradient texture files need to be replaced.(see install instructions below)
No new ship style as yet sorry, only appearance is new. Altarian suits best I think at this stage, though there's not that many parts for them so that may change later.
Update3;
Fixed TechTree so "Beyond Morality" and Tech victory is possible
Added extra influence to later cultural techs with extra maintenance cost associated.
Install instructions:
You will need to remove the previous version of the mod from the Documents/My Games/GalCiv3/Mods folder, if you have that.
Unzip "Xitak.zip" and put in your Documents/My Games/GalCiv3/Mods folder.
Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Galactic Civilizations III\Gfx and copy these 2 files "GradientMap.png" & "GradientMapLights.png" and save them somewhere you will remember.
Copy the 2 maps at the bottom of the mods gfx folder called "GradientMap.png" & "GradientMapLights.png" and put them in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Galactic Civilizations III\Gfx. Click "Yes" to "Replace these 2 files"
Download; Xitak Commune
In addition to being a nice idea for a race I think this mod provides a good outline for new modders on how to make their own race.
+1 i have actually used this as a tutorial for myself. Great work
Very nice
Very interesting faction, In_statis!
I would recommend you to upload this to on of our mod sharing threads, such as *EDIT* Links are broken, sooooo Seilore's forums.galciv3.com/465323/page/1/ and WiFiDi's forums.galciv3.com/465803/page/1/
If you don't thats fine.
But Ivanova may want to talk to you about that policy.
Cheers!

Hey thanks all!
I have learnt a lot of things from other peoples mods too, like Dumhed and by Niedzielan, which, thank you for reminding me, I should thank too. Thanks guy's.
Thanks Jeff26jeff I will check out those links. Ooops! btw. both those links lead back to this thread.
Xitak Commune
Edit: fixed small mistake with Formicary Icon.
Looks like an awesome race! I'll probably use it like a tutorial to making my own too!
thanks it`s been added!
Thanks Mate!
Sorry no updates as yet. Have been doing art work and its not ready yet - animations and a news robot if that becomes an option later. If not then I will make another synthetic race with it.
Added to the Compendium under:Totally Original Races and Factions:Well done
Thanks mate!!
Download : Mod_Parts
Unzip and remove "Xitak" folder from the "Mod_Parts" folder and put in your Documents/My Games/GalCiv3/Mods folder.
Remove the 2 gradient .png files from the "Gradients_Put in GC3 Gfx" folder and put them in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Galactic Civilizations III\Gfx.
Good work, I like the way it's going.
Have you posted it on Nexus yet?
Thanks . I will post to other sites like Nexus, Steam Workshop & ModDB when it is complete. Its just easier to manage having 1 place for now.
Found and fixed another problem with the tech tree. Quantum Understanding & Beyond Morality are not selectable, so you can't complete a tech victory.
Will upload fix after 1.1.
It will not make the 1.1 patch, but we will soon have validation for the Tech Trees, to help modders catch issues like this.
Sorry for the delay, I have had to go interstate for work. Will try and get the latest version up on Steam today.
Ok there are are some incompatibility issues with using this mod with Steam. Namely the home star system and the appearance gradients are not transferable. These things are not an issue if the mod is manually installed and the gradient maps are put in the GC3 Gfx game directory as described above. So this mod will not be available on Steam if / until these things are allowed to be used.
It is possible, once manually installed to make a copy in game and upload to Steam however the appearance of the ships will not have the correct colour and the home world and Star sytem will not be correct. People can easily put in their own names for the Star system and home world and choose their own appearance colours, but they won't be as intended unless their games gradient maps are overwritten with my maps.
I'm currently thinking to save confusion, maybe at a later stage would be a more sensible option to upload this mod for Steam.
Here is the latest version of Xitak Commune with the Tree fixes to be manually installed to the Documents\My Games\GalCiv3\Mods folder. The gradient files for the correct ship appearance are in the mods gfx folder and will need to be copied to the games gfx folder (Optionally make a copy of the original game gradient maps. My gradient maps will not change any of the original ship appearances though, so it is okay to leave them in). Otherwise the ships will just appear grey and colourless.
The Xitak in 1.5 are causing a duplicate surface error with their Xitak_SurfaceDefs because the internal name of their custom surface, GC3_Default_Surface_20, is now being used by a Stardock surface. My suggestion to fix this is to change the internal name to something future-proof, like GC3_Xitak_Surface. Don't ever use Stardock's internal naming scheme as though you're the last one that's ever going to use it, because there's absolutely no need for it, and problems like this will arise when Stardock inevitably updates their game.
Ok, will fix and update when finished with some other changes. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks, but who knows.
