I have to say I´m really disappointed with your game so far, main new feature, multiplayer, is very badly implemented, no LAN, no hotseat, no turn time limit, simultaneous turns, disable animations or any other server settings, other than that, my hopes for improved combat mechanics were unfulfilled, game also seem to be badly optimized (loading screen is like 2-3 minutes on PC with 16 GB RAM) and I had to solve missing fonts problem when I tried to play it. I believe you will improve it with pacthes in the future, but initial impression is very bad and I will not recommend this game to any of my friends, bad job so far, get it better
bye

Who wouldn't, but they didn't do that with GCII and they won't do it with III. This is the Stardock flagship game. It will get lots of teatment for 3-4 years at least.
The GCII universe felt expansive and the game play was fairly fluid. GCIII in comparison feels sluggish and choppy, and the universe just doesn't feel big.
With GCII, I had the "just one more turn" bug, but I can shut GCIII down without a second thought.
It just doesn't have the "fun factor" of its predecessor for me.
I very much disliked FE from the terrible art (still don't get that) to the general gameplay. But luckily Age of Wonders 3 came along and satisfied my 4x Fantasy TBS with Tactical Combat itch becoming my all time favorite PC game. How ever even though IMO FE was a horrible game I never lost faith in Frogboy and the Stardock crew when it came to GC3.
As far as I'm concerned they did do a fantastic job with GC3 and they are still working on it which in my book makes them stand up Guys/Gals. Am I disappointed that TC was not in the game sure but I knew from the start that sadly this would not be in the game.
is this thread where you put your application for Lettermans slot??
I guess you can't please everyone. i have had no issues. You must have old pc parts. Game runs flawlessly for me.
To be fair, Multiplayer was NOT the main feature of this release. The game being designed native in 64bit is perhaps the biggest draw. However it seems you are here to simply to put out your opinion.

Opposite for me. I loved FE. Not sure what it was... but I loved it.
I don't hate AoW3 though, I just dislike the drawn out battles - which is a major part of that game. It has a lot of other things going for it though.
Woops, the edit and quote button looked alike for a sec.
I think they did a pretty good job identifying areas for improvement from 2. The mere fact they chose to offer MP when they absolutely did not have to is a big plus for attempting to push limits. They identified making games longer and more epic as a goal and generally succeeded. AI is, as always, a weak link for stronger players but that is hard to do well. The AI in civ beyond earth...obviously from a very polished franchise...also can be reduced to a simple method of defeating them. Galciv generally has more moving parts so the AI is visibly weaker. But in truth it's no easier to defeat. Overall I think galciv3 is an excellent offering and they do legitimately have great customer service and attention.
Initial load time for GC3 is heavily dominated by your disk's ability to do random I/O. GC3 is loading a whole lot of small files these days, rather than one big archive. It's harder on the disk I/O, but much, much easier for Mod-ers and expansions if you do it this way.
On a fragmented HD, I've seen load times 5-6 minutes. Defrag that and it drops to about 1 minute. On my SSD, I get a load time of about 10 seconds.
I would expect that most of your issues will be addressed within a month of the release date (except the MP ones, which, as others have pointed out, are really not a priority for the user base). So re-check your install around Jun 15 and re-evalute at that point.

LOL the "drawn out battles" is one of my favorite features of the game. I wish GC3 had that. But I don't see them as drawn out and there still is the Auto-combat which I never use. And I love the fact that MP is the SP game but with other people. They did not take anything out just because it is MP.
That's because 75% of players probably including most reviewers play on Beginner and find the AI challenging enough for their purposes, while a hardcore of GC fans want a very high powered AI to play against they aren't the average consumer even for this game.
I myself don't want the AI to do more than provide me some opponents to conquer and find beginner good enough for that.
But rest assured FrogBoy loves improving the AI it's kind of his hobby, GC2 got AI patches for literally years.
This is actually why I was willing to join the founders program for GC3, well that and my love of GC2. Even though Elemental was a mess, I feel Stardock more than made up for it and while GC3 is hardly bug free I can't honestly say I believe it has the find of major fundamental issues Elemental did. I'm already enjoying playing GC3 a lot when I get the chance and the odd typo and some of the other minor issues aren't stopping my enjoyment. That said I never have and never will play the multiplayer version it just doesn't suit my life style and family commitments to try and co-ordinate a large turn based multiplayer game with a friend.
And to a degree still is. LOL Frogboy takes good care of his games.
I have to strongly disagree with you. I have an SSD and my load time is still around 2 minutes. To check your point I did a defrag and the load time did not change at all. Therefor load time is being controlled by other factors such as cpu and memory speeds.
It's pointless to defrag a SSD.
More than pointless, it's wearing out the drive. You'd need to use a fragmenter to decrease the efficiency of your drive far enough for even a good defragger to give a noticeable improvement, and it will take gobs of writes to do it.
I know that. But you can't just say defraging doesn't do anything without proof.
Defragging doesn't do anything.
I am rather happy with the game. The main thing that does disappoint me is the way they dropped ship XP. This is an aspect of Gal Civ II that I liked and increased the interest in the game for me. I would research large ship hulls as fast as I could then build a few large attack ship and send them out to gain XP. As the crews on those ship became more experienced they became much more valuable.
I would really like to see ship XP added back into the game.
I'm surprised by the negativity here....looks like I'm in the minority, I think Gal Civ III is a big step up from Gal Civ II
I find GV3 way more fun and easier to get into. I had GV2 Ulitimate edition for I think at least 2 years, but never played more than 20 hours. Just didn't feel it was that engaging in some ways. For me the GV3 interface and UI is much improved and this made a huge difference for me.
I'm not going to fault GV3 for lacking some things as expect they'll come in the 'expansion' packs. Just sort of the nature of the beast. Though I do hope they bring the tax rate back, and ship XP back, and some other minor things that hopefully were not streamlined out of the game.
As for the AI, it seems pretty good, but haven't played enough to really judge. I know my major opponent in my current and first challenging level game just building fabricators over and over again, so that doesn't bode well. But I imagine the AI will be excellent further down the road.
The balance is also a bit off,it seems way easier to stay in the green now, and looks like they may oversimplified.
After my first match I'm putting the game away for probably at least a year or two while it gets worked on and expanded. Not going to shame Stardock for this way of releasing a game piece meal though, it is just par for the course now a days. But like a lot of strategy games, I recommend you play the game about 2 years after it comes out, you'll just have a better and more complete product by then.
short version: Never got into Gal Civ 2 that much even though I love strategy and Moo2 is an alltime favorite. Gal Civ 3 -- for whatever reason, honestly not really sure -- I find way more fun, engaging and the UI a light year ahead from GC2 .
For me the Tactical AI needs work. Has nobody noticed how Transports will get themselves in the midst of a battle and get themselves killed sometimes? Or how ships don`t wisely stay back with the Starbase to use its extra firepower? It`s commons sense tactics when defending that should be standard. I`ve seen other 4X games do better. At least give me the ability to order certain ships to `Hold back`.
Also some ground action would`ve been nice, even if abstracted.
The strategic AI seems ok so far, well it beaten me 3 times now with at least one runaway AI Civ.
I hope these things will be patched up as the game is pretty good.
Clearly your system is a piece of shit. Replace it, upgrade it, fix it, whatever. Don't blame the game for your shoddy 2nd rate hardware.
I can load both a new insane game or an insane game thats over 500 turns in in less then 30 seconds max.
TLDR fix yo shit
And you shouldn't even be allowed to own a computer... defrag an ssd... your brain is broken.

My brain is broken because I decided to back up my opinion with empirical evidence? Wow, you're a real piece of work. One defrag on a SSD won't kill it. If you're that obsessed about the lifespan of your SSD then I guess you better not install or remove any programs. The amount of idiotic trolls in forums amazes me. You're just some stupid tween trying to repeat things you've heard somewhere on the internet. Do you actually have anything constructive to add to this thread or are you just here to try your hardest and still fail at being macho?
Loading screen takes 11 seconds for me (also with 16GB RAM). Consider that there may be something wrong with your system/setup?
RAM shouldn't really affect load times. This loading is strictly moving things from your hard drive to the ram. Slow hard drive=long load time.
I have 16GB RAM and a solid state HDD (well there's no disk so I guess it's just HD) and the game initializes in about 15 seconds and saves load in about 7 seconds.
My only real complaint about this is the fact that, from the perspective of someone who predominantly plays 4X/Strategy games against living people and not AI, I've always felt the AI in *every game* since the 80's has had serious deficiencies, and has essentially never improved.
Does this one have -worse- deficiencies? Not even sure, frankly. Certainly not worse than other 4X games I've played recently. Some of the AI's in Endless Legend can't even function properly/put up a proper military without having massive cheats turned on.
Take my advice: don't worry about the AI and play against people. People will always be better opponents.
These games will get a lot better if we can move past trying to make a shitty AI into a less-shitty AI and focus purely on game/gameplay design and functionality. To that end, I really enjoy GalCiv 3 so far. I've had very few serious issues in multiplayer- launch day it was pretty crashy, over the past few days it's mostly been just small fixable bugs.
