Hi guys,
We're less than 2 days from release! We've gone gold.
For those of you who have been playing the game recently, we could really use your help on something in particular: Steam user reviews. We are currently 79%. We've been on an upward trend since Beta 6 (we were at 66%!).
If we get to 80%, the rating changes to "Very positive". It would only take a handful of positive reviews to reach that point by release day.
Here's the URL: http://store.steampowered.com/app/226860/
Thanks!
They do not reset. That's why we'd like for people to update their earlier reviews.
It's GMT+1 here so it will be 8pm here. :/
midnight / early release on release day is much better.
I'm glad it crossed the 80% threshold, and I'm glad I did not have to give a positive review to get there. Giving it a positive review at this point would have been disingenuous. So would giving it a negative review. There's so much they said they wanted to do by release that they didn't get to. My perception is they wasted way too much time on combat. Maybe they'll get a lot done after the first few patches, at which point I will give a positive review. I'm also willing to factor in the quality of the campaign, and how much mods are able to change gameplay. Based upon my beta experience so far, I'd give the game 7/10 at best, which is not enough to recommend the game to others.
Congrats on 80%! I think it can only go up from here.
I did give a positive review of the game because I believe it is mostly positive. I do agree with your perception though on the combat viewer. I also believe they focused on this for months especially in the dev streams and may have left some other things on the back burner. With that being said and steam does not offer a scale of 1-10 (or at least I haven't seen one) I'd give the game an 8 which is enough for me to recommend any game at that score. I would recommend a game I'd view as a 6 or better. And this is why...
Everything I look at starts at 5 neutral so this is why I would say 8 right now...
Stardock involvment with it's community/fans and support +1 right there as they truly look and value feedback even if they aren't moving the game in that direction.
Basic game play/complexity +1 Game does not end or mastered after two hours of play.
Large maps +1
Many players human or AI +1
Stability -1 (at this point version 1.0 maybe better especially in multiplayer fingers crossed)
AI +1
(Game Feature) Map generation abundant less than Galactic Civilizations II -1, states can have so much more, however, map doesn't feel/play this way even though it is bigger.
I think it's fair enough that people who don't think the game deserves a positive review don't give it one you have to be honest, luckily it does seem most of us do view the game positively. I did a review last night but didn't notice the % score typed a review and said I would recommend it, so going to check tonight where I put the % that may help more.
At the moment I think I would give the game 85% since it's pretty good and a lot of fun but still has a few annoying bugs and somethings could be improved, I will up my review score as they improve it in later patches accordingly. But I already consider it about the best game in the genre on the whole and that is my honest opinion.
If you think it does not deserve a positive review, you have to understand that good reviews means = more sales = better post release support = with time, better chance to get the game that wish you had.
Indeed.
I can see that, however i think it's wrong to lie in a review too as it's unfair to the people reading it and trying to decide if they will like the game. At the end of the day I gave it a positive review because I'm enjoying the game now and think it's very good despite some lingering issues. If I didn't think that I'd be more likely just not to review it at all than give it a negative review, because the more copies are sold no doubt the more time and effort will be spent on improving it so it would be shooting myself in the foot to give a negative review just out of spite.
If you don't think the game deserves a positive review then don't review it or alternatively, give it a negative review.
Look how honest Frogboy is... Give it a positive review just based on that... j/k what he said.
I`ve done my german review on steam. It`s a great game!
The game is virtually complete as it is right now, only some minor tweaks polishes may be in the final release on Thursday, so what you see is what you get for the most part....
Well complete as in Sellable.
Still lots of features to look forward too
This is the absolute wrong attitude to have. What is more helpful? Constructive reviews that maybe negative and highlights real issues with the game or gaming the review system with thoughtless "likes" just to hit an arbitrary mark? I'd say the former is far more helpful. You shouldn't be afraid of negative reviews, rather you should try to understand what the issues for it were and if they are valid they should be addressed.
Constructive comments here on the forums are fine, and a valid part of the process. Steam reviews are pretty arbitrary though. The review percentage is artificially low because of ignorant a-holes that were expecting a complete, and fun game during the alpha and beta stage. Doing this favor for Brad is to combat that ignorance. If someone has a list of bugs, fine, post it here, but to post anything other than a positive review on Steam is hurting not helping.
Ditto!
To be honest, I couldn't disagree more with the comments I have highlighted. People review based on their own experiences. I personally love the game but completely understand that it wont be everyone's cup of tea, and would never try to influence someone elses opinion or tell them that they shouldn't have posted a review just because it was negative. SDs point may have been to get the rating above 80% positive but that shouldn't be our goal as a customer, our goal should always be to give the developer our honest feedback in the hope that they will take our critiques into account.
I'll write a review when I get home tonight. It will be positive!
To all the detractors: I agree the game isn't perfect, and it's still a way short of the original vision frogboy and Co sold. The AI still has issues, it's not really balanced yet -although it's come a long way, and there's loads of tweaks and features to be added.
BUT: they've tried damn hard and made what is by any objective standard one hell of a game. I cannot wait to get my claws into the campaign and also cannot wait to see the updates in the months and years ahead.
So be generous and leave a good review. They deserve it.
Just went to Steam & you've hit you're 80%. Good job & well deserved. I added my positive review with a comment that the game will continue to be refined as Stardock is very committed to making enjoyable games. You've earned that comment in my book.
This one is always in the eye of the beholder. For example, I could care less about graphic halos or realistic planets...in fact I almost never use the ship designer. Graphics are not the driver for me, but for some they are everything.
Same with combat, some people care less. For others, its the main reason they play the game.
You guys have done an awesome job! You have my review, and two of my friends have already purchased based on my mad ravings about the game. I continue to be critical of bugs and balance issues on the forums, but the game is playable and fun as is. I have had no gambreakers for several patches now, just minor stuff. You guys do good work.
Reviewed and thumbs upped a heap of the positive reviews!
I gave you guys an 8 out of 10.
I'm gonna ding you on being a bit over-ambitious, and the game still is missing a number of things that you promoted for it. I understand why they didn't make it, but you kinda oversold some stuff (the new battle viewer and tactics), as well as removed some thing we kind expected to be there from last time (asteroid mining?).
There's also a few things that really feel just not quite ready yet (like the new tech trees, and how to deal with specialization) that could bake for another couple of months.
But none of that is show-stopping, and the game overall has a great polished feel, and a worthy successor to GC2.
I'm hoping that you release a couple of patches to the base game in the next 3-4 months that address some of the remaining not-quite-baked issues, then go ahead and start working on the larger stuff as DLC or Expansions.
Overall, I'm very happy with my Elite Founder status, and feel the game is very good, but not quite great. I have high hopes that it will evolve into great (meaning a 9.5 or so on my 10 scale) by the end of the calendar year.
While I have sympathy for the way the review score won't distinguish between pre-launch and post-launch reviews, which I think it should as it may give a more accurate score, just because some people may unfairly review or not update their review shouldn't mean that someone else shouldn't give a negative review if they wish. A negative review can be as valid as a positive review.
While a negative review can certainly be as valid as a positive one, the review system is not the place to post constructive criticism. The reviews are meant to inform other people about the game, not tell Stardock where it could improve (though those could overlap).
I completely agree, the forums are the place for constructive criticism generally. Reviews are indeed to help others decide if they would like the game if they bought it.
