Hello,
I'm addicted to Alpha games, i play mostly only Alpha / Early Acces or whatever they called themselves, and easily 90% of them are from the real indi developpers. One problem with this is about delay. Now Early Access is becoming more and more common, there are plenty of games that keep being developped for months, even years, when they simply don't stop giving signs of life.
All developpers say the same "no, we will never give up, wa can promise you the game is still under developpement, we love what we are doing, blabla". A few months later, still waiting for an update, or at least a word.
What about Servo ? It has a strong publisher behind it, and so far i feel the communication is great.
What is the plan for the next weeks, months, years ? If i'm correct you are planning a small update next week, then what ? When do you think your game with be done, as a 1.0 version ? How often do you plan to update ? What is your plan for after release ? Patch, update, DLC, free, paid ?
I really enjoy games with a long term faith, people who prefer to update a game to make it stronger and give it a Name over time, instead of having several little games you forgot 2 months later. Just as an example, Arcen Games still update IA :War after several years, and when they released A valley Without Wind, they patched it up several months after it was "done". They also do "finished product" like Bionic Dues. They game is done, it's great, it's polished, it's not updated but it's "clean". Games like Gnomoria or Dwarf Fortress are also well desserved with long-term support, even if they will never be "finished".
Grey Goo, released with balanced problems, really bad online support, community died after a couple of weeks. Only little updates, not enough to keep the community. Game is almost dead, it didn't even grown up.
Etherium seems to follow the same path.
Nightside is Alpha and developpers seem to listen, and they already add several parts from the community reports, including mine. Feel good. They won't grow much i guess, but it can turn to be a nice little RTS.
Who are you ?
We're the "lots of updates and comms" folks.
I don't see the level of either of those changing. Updates should drop every 2 to 4 weeks during Founder's and Early Access. Someone from Bonus or Stardock should be out here every day reading things and answering questions.
As far as schedule stuff goes... We'll talk a lot about the next update, but since we're always re-evaluating things, it's hard to predict an end date until it's "close". We have some ideas about a completion date, but we're reluctant to announce something specific until we know we can hit it and be happy with the result.
Okay I might as well ask here: how come it's just you and Thunder talking on the forums? I assume the team is bigger than that.
They're too quick on the responses for the rest of us to get a word in!
Hahaha! Nice.
...and not everyone has time to post replies, some people are knee deep in work.
I'm pretty sure everyone on the team visits each day, but not everyone is the posting type. More of them will start doing it once we get farther, I bet.
That's great to hear! Hello rest of the dev team!
Nice work so far. I'm a big Stardock fan and very excited about this project!
