Norton antivirus will not allow installation because of a WS.Reputation.1. Although the reason given may not do to malware of any kind, Norton will not allow the software to be installed on my computer. Solution???
Disable Norton then do the install. Enable when the install is complete.
Fuzzy has it right. But I would add that Norton is problematic and it is my opinion that you'd be better served using something else.
Follow Fuzzy Logic's advice, RyanExpress...
I would advise RyanExpress of other options (if only for future reference):
You can submit your problem here: https://esupport.stardock.com/index.php?/Tickets/Submit
or by emailing support@stardock.com .
If you choose either of those options, you will have to wait until Monday or Tuesday for a response. You will receive an email to the account linked to your Stardock account. Keep it as it has your ticket number. Don't answer it, and don't write again until you get a response from an actual Support person as it will kick your request to the end of the queue.
Hopefully, the third option - a Support person will cruise by and probably give you the same advice that Fuzzy Logic did.
WS reputation often means they know nothing about the file and so are incorrectly suggesting it is bad.
This is not true and I leave it up to you to decide what possible incentive they may have for incorrectly suggesting new files on the internet are bad and thus 'saving you' from them...
In short ignore the warning. I think there is an option somewhere to let it run, or disable your av for a brief period to install the apps.
I think this may help http://community.norton.com/en/forums/clarification-wsreputation1-detection
As a software developer can I please suggest you consider an alternative anti virus product when your Norton comes up for renewal. These kinds of 'features' are very harmful to small developers and can cause reputational damage very easily.
This is very true. Nirsoft is such an example. I can personally attest to the quality and lack of any malware on that site, yet it triggers off all kinds of warnings DESPITE correspondence I've had with "Internet Security" product producers...whether AV software is even worth it is a separate discussion.
