One of the features that Distant Worlds had was you could set up the Universe's age and allow some civilizations to be ahead in technology and already having an empire when the player starts. I know for "fairness" the game starts everyone with one planet and an assortment of ships. Is there any plans to include this type of gameplay in Galactic Civilizations 3?
That sounds like a good premise for a future scenario add-on for the game. I like the idea.
Yea DW is a great game. I have all its expansions.
Having one empire 'way ahead' on the tech curve could make it really hard to get ahead. However if mechanics were put in place to allow you to catch up (espionage to steal tech, getting tech upon conquering a planet), then it might be a neat game. Having the Drengin start out in the Age of War seems like a quick path to defeat.....unless multiple Civs were allied against them.
I like this idea too. You could easily push it a bit further on the game config screen:
[ ] Head Start (other empires wait X turns before "starting")[X] Even Start (everyone starts at once. classic setup)[ ] Late Start (other empires get X turns before you start)[ ] Randomized (every empire gets a random start)
I like the idea, and it would make a lot of sense if someone wants to play a realistic/more plausible game.
Just think about it: when humanity achieve interstellar travel, there will already be much older, larger and more advanced empires out there, and we will be just newcomers, with less advanced tech and no colonies. Civilizations don't simply spawn magically at the same time... Just think of Mass Effect, where the Alliance is the youngest of the races and therefore the weakest one, but still one of the majors.
Please, make this an option in the future.
Might be useful for a Babylon 5 mod ...
You could mod this just give some more starting techs than others. You could maje some tech trees more advanced than others. This would make a great 130 player mod you could give it a fixed map where some own more territory than others. You can make the less advancef races into teamd. In this mod can ee have non humanoid races, cyborgs, and cyborg aliens.
Another interesting twist would be to allow the Minor races to have remnants of former empires. It would add some flavor to the universe, but since they're non-expansionary they wouldn't be much more than glorified pirates with a handful of planets/resources. This would bypass the snowball/steamroll effect of having other races start ahead of you on the exponential power curve (which I can pretty much only imagine that you would want if you wanted some sort of additional challenge or as a buff/nerf to specific opponents).
I actually think it would be kind of fun, generally, to play a universe where the Majors have to wrestle a lot of the resources away from Minors, but the Minors couldn't expand and steamroll (because they're Minors). It sounds a lot more fun/flavorful than fighting a losing battle against the Yor who started 50 turns ahead of me I'm thinking..
Good idea though,
cheers,
I'll be the first one in line to purchase that DLC if it has the options that leiavoia mention.
same .... oh wait i already bought it
Great idea, you could also put modifiers on old races that have empires in a "state of decay" so that they are crumbling while new pioneering civs are rising up and starting their expansion.
