Hi folks, I'm back. Don't everyone run and hide now. I know its been awhile but....here I are. So, what's goin' on with me? Still in my place, still got mine roof. I'm collecting social security now, got me a bank account, a few bucks saved up. Gee, I feel like a real person...again. Lol Don't have another laptop yet but I'm working on it. My little Acer, the hard drive is on its way out. I plan on finding a new one for it. Everything else works and I'm quite fond of it. The very first laptop I had I took apart some time ago and took it into the shop on Saturday to see if it could be saved, nope. It'll cost more to fix it than its worth and no guarantees after that. I had another one, an Inspiron someone gave me, that I let them recycle too. I saved the hard drive and memory from my first one. I have one more, a Compac, that I have a hard drive for, I think, plus memory. I'm going to take that to the shop and see what's up. If it isn't too much I'll get it fixed. As for a newbie, now that I have the monthly income (rent comes right off the top automatically) I plan on saving until I have enough to get the machine I want. No cheap nonsense either, I like Toshiba and will most likely go that way. I figure by the time I'm ready the dinkleberries at MS will have gotten their act together (wishful thinking?) with regards to Windows 10. I still have Win 7's installation disc and plan on doing a dual boot or if the one I bring in works keep 7 on that and still go for the newbie. It will take some time but hey, I'm in no hurry.
So. how's life at the asylum? Everybody doing their thing still? I kinda miss all the stuff that goes on here. Has Kitty come back with those luscious creations of hers? Lightstar still bangin' out the WB's? I swear that guy's a machine in disguise. How about newbies? Get some more to come join the fun? And how about the cap'n...starkers still denying that his intake of cabbage was responsible for all the pollution in China? Has he bagged any bankers lately? And did Jafo finally get to sit in the cockpit of one of his creations? How about DB? Still complaining about having to clean his screen after somebody cracked a bad joke when he wasn't looking? Jeez! I missed you guys
WD-40 is good but duck tape is better. It doesn't run or leave behind oily stuff. Just don't try to peel it off. OUCH! Good to see (relatively speaking lol) you guys again. Did some puttering too and running around doin' other stuff but getting to the point where I can reach into my pocket and pull out a buck, priceless IMO. Looking into getting a big screen TV and no...not a Samsung. I'd be too tempted to tell Uncle am where he can stick...never mind. This from Kmart. They have a lease program where you can lease a big screen TV for not much every month with an option to buy it. All those monthly payments go towards the cost of the TV, providing you go with the plan. Guess what...I can actually afford it. If it can double as a monitor all the better. No more watching vids on a little TV that you have to sit practically on top to see and hear it. Lol
Now who would've thought I'd stumble across that tip on WinCustomize? Thanks for that, as much Duct Tape as I use, I'll get some mileage out of that one.
Come on back Uvah, don't leave us hanging.
Edit: Well there you are Uvah, popped back in while I was typing. Hello again.
Don't forget YMMV and all that good stuff. But then again think of that poor turtle wading uphill in molasses. Real low mileage there.
The little guy's so persistent though.
Well there ya go... not that I've ever needed to remove lipstick from there or anywhere else.
What does that say about my past g/fs? They were either cheap or plain couldn't afford it.
Seriously, though, WD40 has a multitude of uses... many that were not even thought of when the product was developed/released. In fact, my sister once sent me an email with a 1001 uses foe WD40. I no longer have it - reformats/drive failures, etc - but I'll ask to see if she still has it.
In any event, 'tis bloody marvellous stuff.
almost posted a thread wondering if anyone had heard from you lately, glad you beat me to the punch.
starkers... 1001 uses. lol. How about 2,000+? In alphabetical order for your convenience...

Hmmm...maybe lipstick hadn't been invented yet?
LOLOLOLOL!
Just kidding...I think we're around the same age.
Hmmm...maybe lipstick hadn't been invented yet?LOLOLOLOL! Just kidding...I think we're around the same age.
Hehe, back when I first started dating, lips were only just coming into fashion. Lipstick came much later.
Age-wise, I'll be 62 in 42 days... tho mentally I'm still a teenager, and physically I feel 92... damned arthritis and all that.
Yep, I just turned 64.
And I feel just as you,....mentally I refuse to age, but the body, it galloped past my actual age long ago. Some days I hurt in places where I didn't even know I had places!
Yeah, that's it.... downloaded and saved in docs + backup drive. TYVM.
I've used WD40 for decades to remove stickers and glue residue from plastics.
Back in the day, everything had a price sticker on it, often in a most visible spot. I also find it handy for removing the "full coverage" stickers and such that OEM PC builders seem so fond of plastering everywhere.Just dampen the sticker and it will come right off with a bit of a soak. Another tip, it works great for removing chain lube from bike paint and chrome. When finished, a quick wipe with a paper towel and glass cleaner will clean off the WD40 without smearing the gummy lube and goo all over the place.
Leave it to the doc to find the good stuff. Speaking of which......went to the computer doc today. Total cost to fix the laptop, $250.00, well within my price range. Just needed a new screen. HD is 100%, memory's good, everythings good. Guys gonna return it to factory specs no charge. Another good part, he's willing to hold it till the end of the month. Has Win 7 home premium installed, another plus. Second plus, picked up a 19 inch TV/Monitor for $50.00, not too shabby. Gonna have some toys to play with. Yaaay me!
It's good to see that you're back again and in good spirits and health. I've been wondering about you.
Howdy Uvah.... good to see you popping back in....
great tip...thanks... I usually use eucalyptus oil for that kind of thing.... it's a bit more smelly... but still effective.... I'll try WD40 next time...
Works great on sticker glue too. It breaks down certain types of glue and makes it gooey and easy to wipe or scrape off.
Gooey stuff aside, went to the 'puter doc after he called me. He said the laptop most likely will cost more than anticipated. Soooo...I'm gonna take that two fifty and get me a small one for now, as in inexpensive. The hard drive I saved. I should have by the end of the day an enclosure for it so I'll be able to access what's on it. The TV/Monitor has HDMI so I got a cable for it. Next comes cable itself, just basic stuff with internet. Slowly but surely I'm gettin' there.
It's good the hear that youre getting a working machine organised and operational again... it means you'll be a regular contributor again. After your long absence that will be a welcome addition to the forums.
All the best with it old mate.
Good learning thread about WD 40 . Injecting WD 40 in my old joints got me moving again.
Just make sure to use the plural there, Dave.
That depends on how you define joint. The one you open a door on, hold with two fingers or with all five with a welcome handshake.
I got me a wee freebie. Its an ICRAIG with an Android OS. Question, how do I enlarge the forums page? The text is a bit small. I tried going to settings on Chrome but this version is different.
Not sure about the ICRAIG but with most android touch screens you can enlarge a page by sliding 2 fingers away from one another on the screen and to make smaller you pinch or slide 2 fingers towards each other. Also do this.
Go to Settings
This enlarges the entire page though and not just the font.
