Hello,Right now, when I am zoomed out to see most of the map and I click "Idle Ship" there is no visible clue which tells me which ship is active. The way it is now, I have to zoom in on the map and click "Idle Ship" a few times so that I will see the ship circled in zoomed in then zoom out to see which one it is. Also, when I click on a ship, to make it active, this visual effect would make it clear that it is the active ship.I suggest this simple change to make it clear which ship is selected on the map when you click "Idle Ship" even when Zoomed out. Just flip vertically the icon you are using to display the ship. The ships have the front facing "North West" or "7" if using the numeric keypad position. Have the front face North East (or 9 on numeric keypad) like on this graphic. https://www.dropbox.com/s/zaaxw2csx9ez07l/FlipOnActive.png?dl=0When the ship is no longer active, just flip the icon back to it's normal North West position. It will make the game more playable. Thanks
i dont think that would be enough for me i know my brother would spot it instantly but i would need to look at every ship on the screen before i could tell which one is flipped
just scale the circle to the larger map even if it now overlaps the 6 adjacent tiles it would still identify which ship is selected
I see what you mean, thank you for the feedback.
If any emphasis is needed, this is a big one for me as well.
And me.
What I have been doing is reducing the field width, with no attempt at first to find anything, then hitting idle ship again, and the focus will move to the ship and the circle around it will be much easier to see. That said, there should be some way to handle this that doesn't requiring rolling my mouse wheel to focus in; some kind of highlight --- maybe a big arrow overlayed?
Me eyes aint so good no more...
Yes this is a real problem for me as well
Maybe if the hexagonal tile was changed in some way. Perhaps raising it the way that a push button is raised when it is un-clicked ? Pehaps changing the color of the hexagon from dark gray to a color which differs from the ship's color.I tend to play the game zoomed out. It's a bit of a shame because there are some very nice visual effects that occur when you zoom in on the game like the sun and the individual starbases but you really need the whole board so to speak to manage the big picture.
The present behavior does encourage you to zoom in and appreciate the artwork, and I do need good excuses to do that. I really like ships arriving at a rally point near a planet with starbases, f'rinstance. However, I envision bigger maps needing even more strategic viewing. I find myself wishing I could zoom out one more level. I am not sure how it would look visually, and I wouldn't want to break the present transitions between levels. Maybe I could get the minimap type display swapped into the main map window. It could cover wide swaths of galaxy. That could be useful. Spiral galaxies could look real cool.
I like the individual ship highlight suggestions made. I have faith that the devs will find something clean and useful out of all that.
Agreed.Stardock needs to remember its player base is getting old.Or, at least, I am.Controller support?Better visibility/legibility?Removing needless repetitive movements?Scoff if you will, but eventually you too will be an old gamer, fighting with carpal tunnel, or vision difficulties.Or just plain sitting in a chair.
