I love Xcom. Its a great game. Its a Tactical Combat lovers happy place. Firaxis did a pretty good job with it and its expansion but has abandoned it and as far as can be seen has zero plans to update or even do the same thing in 'newer' technology.
If I won the Power ball Lottery...850 Million.?? I would buy the liscence from Firaxis and hire Paul to release it as
Xcom-Reborn ...or something along that line.
Native in 64 bit.
Hexes instead of Squares.
DX 12, Fully supporting multi core/threads.
Multi monitor as well as 4K resolutions.
Increased story line. Squad sizes up to 10 men!
Modular gear and appearance gear.
Well one can dream eh?
And that right there is why gaming makes me sad as I get older.
Yeah, as I was reading that I literally yelled "WHHYYYYYY!!!!" at the screen. I don't want cinematic story telling in my Xcom games, I want a game that simulates being the head of a covert multinational organisation that is attempting to defeat alien invaders.I hated the new Xcom's limitations that felt arbitrary rather than making sense. the four man limit in the skyranger for example was so stupid let alone the one base and one skyranger limitation. Oh yeah! Lets buy an upgrade that allows us to use the extra two seats in the back! Who ever thought of that was an idiot.
Like I said, it was an ok game. But to be honest I've been playing Open Xcom more since that was released and man with some tweaks and a few improvements the original game holds up well. It's so much fun. I wish they had stuck to their guns with the prototype and continued on that path. Would have been a much better game imo. (they also had more realistic proportions, not this stylised over sized weapons approach)
That sounds great! Is it like that in Xenonauts?
This makes me sad
Catering to the GODDAMN casuals!!
Why the hell didn't they make some tutorials instead to teach people the game?? <---- Moments after typing that, I realized that the goddamn casuals would still find it slow and that it could possibly sell less....
I'm getting more and more convinced that gaming was at its best when it was a nerdthing instead of mainsteam....
I enjoyed the X com, enemy within, long war mod. Worth a spin....
It's true that the longwar mod definitely improves upon the game. It adds more depth and a greater tactical challenge.
Well I still stand by my 'request'. X-com would be pretty flipping awesome if it was DX12, 64bit and in 'Hexes' oh and squads of 6 or 8!
You should try the mod they've mentioned, it fills pretty much your entire request on the gameplay side.
