I've been enjoying the game quite a bit, but as someone with sensitive hearing, I find the click/beep that plays when you click on a button (like in the main menu for example) to be piercing and painful, even with SFX volume turned down to 1%. I've been playing with SFX disabled entirely just so I don't have to hear this one troublesome sound asset. I had forgotten about this until I tried to watch someone streaming GalCiv 3 through steam, and couldn't stand the sound. It would be really nice if I either got some way to deal with that particular sound directly, or if someone would be so kind as to run that asset through a sound editor to soften the edge on that treble or whatever it is.
Thanks, great work on the game so far!
Is there no way to delete the particular file for this particular SFX?
Unfortunately not, all SFX sounds are compressed into a single file located at
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Galactic Civilizations III\Sfx\GC3_SFX_Bank.msscmp
I totally agree with this sentiment. That sound is awful.
Now that I've read this topic I notice the sound every time it plays. Never really noticed it before...
Thanks guys.
Hey, so I saw that in the beta 5 patch they "Balanced SFX volume" so I went ahead and went to see if the button click sound was improved.
I can't tell if they actually adjusted the sound, but regardless the volume of the sound is not the issue. Even with sfx volume set to 1% the sound is still piercing and painful. I really want to be able to turn on sfx because there are a whole bunch of cool bleeps and bloops that are really well done (and I keep getting yelled at for not realizing it is my turn in multiplayer). Unfortunately, this one troublesome sound really needs to be reworked so it doesn't feel like I'm getting flicked on the inside of my ear every time I click a button.
Game is released, button click sound is still awful. Please!
Hopefully someone will release a sound mod, doesn't look like it will be changed
Bought the game just now, and realized this issue on my first mouse click.
This is an extremely high-pitched noise. I'm not surprised that many people are not bothered by it. As someone who is sensitive to high pitched noises it makes the game completely unplayable with the UI sound on. It's not just annoying, but literally painful.
Because the issue is the pitch of the noise, not the volume, the sound have to be turned down below audible volume to stop it from being annoying and painful. Just lowering the UI volume a bit is does nothing at all unfortunately.
I also noticed this with my first click in the user interface. I usually play with headphones, but this sound makes it painful. Please change it.
Bump for visibility. This is such an easy change!
