As a Terran In a 3 "colonizeable" planet star system I had the following happen:
The Planets:
- Size 8: Aquatic Influence Output: 5
- Size 12: Earthlike Influence Output: 11
- Size 13: Lush Influence Output: 12
The Yor populated the Size 8 and somehow captured both of the other planets through influence. At the time I tried to put up 2 culture star bases in order to stop my planets from defecting but no luck.
They did have 4 planets in medium proximity to my 3. However, my population on those planets were larger.
I don't think influence is working completely correctly.
I was playing as Krynn with 3 planets in my home system. I colonized one, but the Altarians grabbed the other (PQ 4). And I was wiped out by influence.
Doesn't make sense!
I had a similar experience while trying to play the Iridians. In several different scenarios I was wiped out by both the Altarans and the Earthlings, due to influence. Despite building several influence based starbases as well as a bunch of influence buildings. In one instance I had 6 planets in a unified sphere and the Altairans came in and colonized a level 5 planet next to 2 of my level 14 and 15 planets and within about 30-40 turns had turned both of those planets. Despite the fact that I had built 2 culture starbases and loaded the planets with Free Markets and Iridium stores.

I submitted a ticket with 2 game files both of which have examples of culture not necessarily working to the optimum.
Thank you
@Raynman, I've noticed that after working up 4 or so levels in the Benevolence/Influence track influence changes its behavior entirely and seems to work as expected. I lost my save game where I observed this happening. I'd look at the code around that for some issues. Some of the levels on that track actually seem to cause influence penalties. I lost a planet in a game after leveling up, but I can't remember which step. That was unexpected.
okay, thank you
I submitted ticket SWH-548-35275 on this stuff. A tiny, tiny pocket of unconnected influence in my vast sea of dominance is about to capture one of my planets.
Honestly I think that the malevolence trait of never switching is a bit of overkill. Instead make it take 5 xs more or something. I think that is in part of what is causing this.
When will the influence bug get fixed?
Here is another "Rift of Doom." I have already submitted the save file. Over the next 20 or so turns it will shift up and encompass my planet. There is another rift to the right (might have to scroll) which is between two of my planets.
The save has been reviewed by support. I just want to document this here for those following the thread. The Humans never held any of my planets. I never went to war with them this game.
If they didn't fix it in .71, you will probably have to wait until Beta 5. They are much more interested in getting the next iteration out than fixing and polishing the current one.
