Just tossing out a question which indirectly references Brad's thread on DX12.
Will GC III be 'upgrade able' or such so we can eventually use DX12 with this game?
Good question
Imagine the api hooks all working in tandem and plotting against us. I can just see the threads from Gilmoy complaining he can't beat the AI past 'beginner'..hehe
Well I'm not a dev, but I think I can safely say no on this unless they took my idea, and made a game that will scan your hardware, and software, and adjust for this.
I know that this will not be the oxide engine. I know that they've been working on this game since 2011, so this has been based on thevtechnology of 2011. I know all the expansions on a specific game to date have been always based on the same engine. I know the requirement is for directs 10-11. Can a dev help me out with this. y
I would agree with the Admiral here, I would say no, now with that being said I'm sure they can do some tweaks to make them preform better as time goes on into the future, but this game would be for DX10-11 machines stating the average user has multi-cores (4) I believe they said it will most likely be optimized for this.
Thanks for the replies.
I am hoping DX12 will be downward compatible and will support all of the functions DX11 and DX10 supported, just like DX11 was downward compatible with DC10. If not, Stardock will be forced to add support for DX12, just like CIV 5 did for DX10,11.
Monitoring the CPU usage on my machine shows that GC3 already uses multi-threading nicely.
Civilisation 5 was dx9 and the managed to add a dx11 and win 8 version to the start up... I don't see why they cant do the same here and simply optimise a version for dx12.
Never is a long time but I am pretty sure I have heard Paul say there are no plans for DX12 to be incorporated.
Brad has stated that he wants to try and port gc3 to Vulkan when it comes out.
For those that don't know, Vulkan is the new API from Khronos, the organisation behind OpenGL, and it will be very similar to dx12 except that instead of being limited to win10, it will be available for win7, win8, win10, linux android. It is expected to be available later this year.
