Project origins
There was some discussion on the Steam forums as to how to get an update to GalCiv 2 out there.
Draginol popped in and suggested that an update incorporating the expertise of the fanbase would be the best way forward. A bugfixing update would soon be on the way.
I sent a message to the other tech tree modders, and luckily secured the assistance of Gaunathor, and later MabusAltarn, as well as some dedicated members of the community who posted some valuable feedback. They have been instrumental to the success of the community update, and I'm glad to have played a small part along the way.
Progress report
The community update has been released as part of a rollout of Stardock products on GOG.com and is also available as an opt-in beta on Steam!

When is the Community Mod being released formally by Stardock?
Why does the first post not have the latest patch version that is in the download directory?
What version of the patch is going to be passed to Stardock for QA and formal release?
I doubt that the CU will be released any time soon, since GCIII is currently in the make (with the release date now set, and even afterwards I suspect they'll have to cater for it alot)
The OP can only be changed by Marvin, and he didn't post for some time...
Original post updated!
I've been playing/testing/modding another game, and I also do a bit of forum moderation now (it's not as glamorous as it sounds, honestly).
I've made an installer for the Community Update.
See this thread: https://forums.galciv2.com/466754/page/1/
Fantastic.
Okay, what's the consensus? We about ready to make this available via Steam you think?
I'd say so, yes.
I also vote yes on making it availble via Steam.
Hello everyone,
I'm updating the credits in the manual. If you want me to use your real name (or first name) PM me and I'll include it.
Thumbs up from me.
I've updated the manual.
I have been playing GalCiv 2 UE lately and just saw this community patch.
Is this patch tested for balance?
How do I see what are the changes in this patch?
Should I download and install this patch?
Yes.
There's a folder that contains all the change longs. But honestly, there's so, so many I wouldn't bother. Play and get a feel for it is what I recommend.
That is entirely up to you. My answer would be: hell yes. Just to be clear, the Community Update is not a patch, it's a mod. The installer I made merely simplyfies the installation process.
there were alot of tests done to eruate on the consequences of the changes done, the game became a step or 2 harder to defeat.
all changes are documented in the "changes" folder.
as of now, you can treat it as a mod and toggle it on/off easily.
Hi, this Community update looks great!
However. I have the retail version of GCII UE, purchased March 2009, and when I swap the 2.02 exe file for the new 2.042 version the game won't start. Do I need to submit my old product key again? How I do that since so much has changed at Stardock between 2009 and now?
-Y.
I just recently played my first game on a small map against 3 other Civs, up to the point of the Drengin asking for a truce. Probably, not even halfway of the tech tree researched of my main techs. The A.I seems fairly smart, so far, it was on normal difficulty, normal intelligence. I recommend it! On a second from the biggest map against 7 civs, at the moment.
Great! So I can actually toggle this community update on and off.
I will install it tonight and try a new game with this update/mod.
Are you referring to a folder created after you install the community update?
Can I check what is the name of the folder?
Yes. Documents\My Games\GC2TwilightArnor\Mods\Community Update\Change Logs. That's where the change logs are.
I think this answers both your questions.
I made a cosmetic update to FlavorText.XML. CUFI and Zip have been updated.
* Inlcuded the manual in the ZIP file.
* Removed 3 double starnames
* Randomized STAR.txt. It's no longer sorted alphabetically.
* Updated CUFI and Zip file.
* Removed Dream Conclave 2. 40% morale is very high and we've added a civ wide morale bonus to their government tech so I doubt they need it.
Updated CUFI / Zip.
*Updated Credits in CUFI / Zip / Manual
Minor update.
* Propaganda Machine needs to be a GA to work properly. Now fixed.
* If you looked really hard in the trade window you might notice a few AI planet names hovering where they don't below. Fixed by putting the AI planet screen behind, well, everything. Now it's completely unreachable.
* Added names to the Credits in ModDescription.XML
Updated Zip / CUFI / Manual
Updated CUFI. Details are in the CUFI thread.
Great job with the manual/guide and the CUFI installer. I read through the whole guide. Overall quite informative regarding the options and abilities.
