We are going to start to see the Windows 9 preview fairly soon according to various reports.
Link: http://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-expected-to-announce-windows-9-on-september-30
We've heard the rumors of supposed features and user interface changes, so we can only wait and see what really to expect in Windows 9.
The real question is, what do you want to see changed or added in Windows 9?

^^^^What he said.
Why would you want to run a Windows emulator when you have the real thing?
hi,
ah , yes i did forget dosbox integration as 9. point.
Why? Test old/early 32 bit applications and some xp apps on windows 7 and on slitaz with wine. If they run on wine they run normally more stable and faster. For these apps you would not need a VM normally .
And windows 64 bit does nearly break these apps runtime processes and you have to run most of them with administrator rights why ? that is the question here. I need it especially for editing simple pdfs. ( on linux there program works and on windows it crashes often even if its a windows program.) .Photo Line a graphic editor is really fast on wine, but so slow on windows.
Also why doesn`t my norton commander work well on windows 7 ? i did search for reasons but didn`t find one.
i do find it frustrating that approx. only + 50 mb of installation disk cache could ensure backward compatibility. Microsoft does like to force the users to buy new programs, even if there is no reason. I hope that win9 would add a compatibility layer for 32 and 16 bit programs. They don`t even think that a system more compatible to older software could increase the sales of the Os in this case win9. No they try to invent new GUI what is a good thing, but don`t respect the fact that users like to run older software too. Its natural that they can`t support every old program , but they don`t even try to make old simple apps runable without support. The win 7 xp 95 etc combatibility layer is only a fake for some registry matters and some what os am i using calls from these appplications. DAMN

Norton Commander? NC's been "dead" for years......
I believe you mean Windows Commander - which by the way works just fine in any Windows version.
MOAR TILES
Not really its linux clone midnight commender is still alive on linux . Looks very much like nc5.exe......
oh i forgot a gui without back , forward and min max close title bar buttons would be great too [to increase usability )= . This amazing and great idea was already implemented in win 8 somewhere )= ] .
A destop tha can easily be morphed into a win 7 formant. Hate, hate, button being moved, changed, dialog boxes changing, and menus revamped. OH, did I mention I hate relearning the basic use of the desktop cause MS shuffles all the elements around?
will you guys bring back desktopX? saw it mentioned above..
I'd say probably not.
Correct me if I'm wrong please, but haven't you been a proponent of all things Linux and (as far as phones go) droid over windows whenever you get the chance? I would think 'emulating windows' would be exactly up your alley no?
That's probably only the stance taken on dates that are a prime number....at other times it'll be 'something else' ....
Dual booting windows is usually better for performance than running a virtual machine or emulation program...since the windows is typically for games, performance kind of matters....
Sure, I like to root for the little guy. I root for Linux and Android when I can, but here's something you probably did not know. I could never use Linux as my main OS, and in all of the time I have been a member here I have used Windows.
I have my reasons why I could never use Linux everyday, wrote a blog article about it. I just think MicroSoft has gotten a bit to big and taken Windows in a direction not many people like.
Windows 7 2.0
but likely they will make a harder to use not as controllable OS with stuff that was free that we must now pay for.
And I didn't know SD could redo windows 8 to look and be like windows 7! So I could press the Microsoft button and be sent to the good old desk top again vs the tiles when playing galciv3???!!! Someone tell me more about this?!???!?
DARCA
Darca.... you're posting from Stardock's GalCiv II website forum.... whereas others [like me] are posting from Stardock's WinCUSTOMIZE website forum - they're interlinked [and with others too].
Post OS2, Stardock turned its attention to MS Windows [last millennium] and has been closely connected with MS ever since - designing ways to Improve the Windows Experience [GUI].

Better
Thats right when you use windows as main system. If you use only few windows programs (like me), then its better to normally use linux and wine and a seperate win7 installation on disk.
Yeah i hope that win 9 would be runnable , fast and stable on my 3ghz dual core 3gb ram ( enough for 32 and early 64 bit programs). And i do hope that it could be compatible to win9k . Even if there are many people asking why.
And you can win 3.11 make look like w9k b.t.w ... So you see it was always possible to mod systems, and it is often wanted to rechange the OS look to the look of its newer version or the previous system. The older look is often more popular, but after a while that newer look is as nice as the old one. But i have to admit that win8 is sometimes a huge design failure and it seems that some critical faults will be fixed in win9.
I hope windows 9 fix the limitations of windows 7.like transparency and etc..
Wow idfk. Ima learn more about this.
thks for the link jafo I can now fight the uniformity and ignorance they are trying to sell. But windows 8-9 is still way better than anything apple will ever make. Though now I can say bye bye to alot of crap on windows.
Hi,
Apple has done some faults that adnroid likes also to do. Apple costs more than windows. I don' t like apple, cause their intel based machines are not fully compatible with their OS' es and have sometimes huge modifications on a hardware level.
And you can`t install MACOSX on a computer/laptop that isn`t produced by apple. Its illegal and technically impossible with full speed. But you can mod your linux to look exactly like macintosh and all my firends couldn`t tell any difference, and i couldn`t find a way to tell them hpew to find out that it was linux.
On windows you need every time to have a real valid and buyed license and then find a way to activate your windows or windows program . Both things are not related often )=.
Perhaps windows 9 will redesign their application to have some more logical dialogs.
You can make Windows 'look like' Mac too .....been that way since Adam was a pup...
And while we're at it...you can even make a 16bit windows ie.... 3.11 look like its 32bit successors.....complete with 'matching' file managers, etc...
There's a lot more than just hermit crabs and sand in.....shells...
Yeah i did use Calmira on an old outdated pc.Thats for w3.11 to look like w9k.
I doubt that windows could look like mac. mac has inside the top panel a menu. On linux that is possible with 95% of all common linux application.
On winows every program has another gui. Windows can skin them, but to isolate the menubar and merging them into the panel is a competly different task then skinning the menubar. Its more complicated. On linux there are only two or three common GUI, so they don`t have the problems, windows has.
Perhaps win 9 would add such an amazing feature, but i doubt it. I do hope that they try to modificate and enhance the UI, but not without providing the older win xp- like application style for each of their newest applications.
A single application can have two or three GUI' s. Thats not uncommon. But microsoft seems to be trying to unifing the user interface and does in reality only produce new interfaces and new designs without the support of older ones ... I`m happy when they will be outdated .
Yes, Calmira .....I've used that....along with just about every other shell idea there ever was....including Dos.
The first imitation of OSX was on Windows...BEFORE OSX was released....
Yes, it can. It has been done. Many times. And you would never know the system was a Windows box.
See kona, it's statements like that that get you into trouble. You might not be able to discern the difference, but allow me to suggest that I (and many many others) would.
