This is a question for frogboy, or anyone else in the know.
Are there any plans to make an historical turn-based strategy game?
I only ask because I'd like to see what Stardock could accomplish since it doesn't have the same constraints as a company like Firaxis.
Stardock does have a lot of talented employees. And they do have a lot of projects in the pipeline that are currently closely guarded secrets. So who knows.
I would not mind historic 4RTX - basically Sins on the ground - with castles or cities instead of planets.
Exactly.
While it's not strictly a Stardock game, there's this:

Thanks for the link! This is definitely a step in the direction I wanted.
We love historical strategy games but we tend to rely on our friends at Paradox to make them. If you haven't checked out their games, I highly recommend them.
Will do. Thanks frogboy!
Crusader kings II, almost 1000 hours played on Steam for me. Maybe the best game ever.
Yep, they make some good stuff.
I've said it before, I'll say it again... Crusader Kings 2 blew my mind how they pulled such an ambitious game off. And there's a massive expansion/DLC to be announced this week, woo!
i would like to see a real-world strategy game from Stardock as well (As opposed to Sci-fi or fantasy, which they've already done). Not historically based, like a Paradox game, but more of a Civ-like game. I think Stardock would offer something unique. Especially if it had customizable units. For me, this might be an instabuy.
I would like a WWI era Steampunk themed TBS from Stardock. Think how kick ass that would be. Think about it mother fuckers! Awesome...so awesome.
I like the idea of a real world turn based game combined with galactic civilizations where you play the terrans.
I would love a fantasy or medieval/historical 4x RTS hybrid like Sins of a Solar Empire.
In fact I was hoping that Ironclad's Sins of a Dark Age would be that, but they went the MOBA route.
Basically, something like SOSE but instead of planets, and asteroids etc we'd have Towns, Cities and Fortresses/Castles. Neutral capturable areas like mines, farming land, river ferries etc.Obviously the map would be a little more open since phase lanes would not be a thing and choke points would be from natural elements like mountains and rivers.
I'd want soldiers to be in units, like in BFME or something, doesn't need to be 100's like total war. then instead of Cap ships you have Heroes or Generals
If you haven't already, check out Kohan. Sounds right up your alley.
I would love to see a historical strategy 4X game from Stardock.
They've got so much talent around here now that are familiar with Civ style games.
That would be a dream come true for me.
Kohan is the one game I most want Stardock to make a spiritual successor to. Brad was a fan of the series.
Best idea- Kohan-styled RTS in the Elemental universe. I could see that working super-exceptionally well. If I ever got to see Brad, I'd probably spend 2-3 days creating a notebook with notes on how to make that happen.
I could list reasons why I think Stardock would be perfect to pull it off- but the weakness of Kohan years ago was the unit AI had issues with certain exploits, Brad's AI skills could cover for that, and make an above-average strategic AI for the genre. Also, Brad and Derek are old enough that they'd make a game that wasn't too micro-heavy, which is the entire point of Kohan. If you compare RTS's to fighting games, Kohan is very much the Samurai Shodown of the genre. (which also happens to be my all-time fav in that genre)
Had lots of fun with Kohan Ahriman Gift in MP, Kohan 2 was OK, but not that great. Great games anyway.
or diesel - punk
That is awesome. Well done, sir. We needed a snappy name for the hybrid, and that's perfect.
I am glad you like it.
And anyway, i count already 3 or 4 people including me asking for a Sins clone set on the ground in some historic era - medieval, napoleonic, WW1/WW2, or flat-out fantasy - so its clear as a day there is a MASSIVE demand for this kind of game, therefore you should make it happen ASAP, definitely. Maybe co-develop it with Sins 2!
So forget your friends at Paradox, they may be creating fine historical strategy games, but that is NOT what we want, we yearn for historical Sins-clones! Well, 3 or 4 of us at least.
I love the Paradox games, especially Europa Universalis 4, but Stardock could do TBS 4X historical and rival Firaxis' Civilization.
Yes please!
I like the idea of combining a game like civilization with galactic civilizations. I understand that there would have to be some changes for consistency. I wouldn't want a scale down because of size not with hardrives in the terabytes if people will play galactic civilizations a long time then they will play this game also.
Yes, they could. Plus, the more competition, the better.
