Divinity: Original Sin was released during the Steam summer sale and has been hugging its #1 most sold list since (despite only being 25% off for a day and then full price since).
My opinion: This is the best RPG ever released for PC. It's a more colourful, more humorous Baldur's Gate. It's filled with high fantasy elements, although your only real friends are all humans. The pen-and-paper parts of combat and character development are extremely well-done (no dice for damage though!). The story and quests are incredibly well-written within the context of the game. It definitely does not hold your hand! No "go to X, collect boring_item_321". And it manages to add something to the whole formula, terrain transformation. Spill some poison on the ground, blow it up with a fireball to create a large burning area. Pull out your rain spell to create a fine mist from the burning area, now you got something to block the view - turn that into a lightning storm with some thunderstrikes.
The only bad part about the game is crafting. There's no interface for it, you just drag stuff on top of other stuff. You find recipes in-game but they are pure text descriptions that aren't always clear ("add some fire" may mean put it in a furnace and so on). And there are often a lot of steps needed, which makes it even harder since there are so many unknowns (add an iron bar - where do I get that? another recipe...).
Also, 2-player coop multiplayer and something I'm personally more interested in - they released the tools used to make the campaign. Mods. Mods! MODS!!! (game just released though, probably none out yet)
Anyone else playing?

Amazing game. Simply amazing.
Agree - best RPG I have ever played on PC.
Do not know if it's the best of all time, but it's really a great game!
I don't like it that much. There are lots of flaws with the balance of the game and the game design in general. Part of the problem is classless systems make for bland characters in most cases.
Hopefully the content released in the future will address some of these problems.
Game is fantastic. I backed it for many many dollarz and.am overjoyed to see it turn out so good and successful!
Fwiw I like the crafting system, the fun is in discovering the creative combinations.
I think the classless thing is mostly a thing in the beginning. Later on you really need the right attributes, and the high-level skills (lvl 4+) don't leave much room for diversifying. If you don't have both, your combat skills will need much more action points. And secondary skills just don't work without having someone focus in it.
Agree that it's really good.
Still think that Dragon Age: Origins is the better game. This is definitely top 5, though.
Is this a sequel or reboot?
In any case, completely flew under the radar for me. Got one guy on my Steam friends list who plays it.
Bought it today after hearing great things all over the place about it. Really looking forward to giving it a try.
There are other Divinity games set in the same world, but this is a stand-alone experience as far as I can tell. You're not losing anything by starting with it.
Are the mechanics the same as previous Divinitygames or different like Diablo vs Torchligt/Diablo III ?
Completely different.
Kickstarted it, playing it, loving it.
Best investment in gaming i ever did.
Looks pretty awesome. Definitely made my Steam wishlist. I "need" to start playing some of these games I already have though. The backlog is getting horrific.
On the plus side, just got my first dual monitor setup, so perhaps some gaming while doing something else, will help me get going on that list.
I bought this on EA, and it has turned out to be a fantastic game. I have not had this much fun since dragon age.
This is one of those games-in-a-million that is worth every penny, and more.
My girls hunt the source, and God help anyone that stands in their way.
You can game while you game! Two different games at once!
Hmmm, you maybe on to something! Keyboard control in one game, mouse in the other?? 2 games off my to-play list per shot, brilliant!
Divinity Original Sin is so far the only game i've backed that turned out meeting my expectations, in fact Larian over-delivered. You guys should try it out if you're into CRPG and Turn Base Combat. It is honestly the CRPG we're all been waiting for, i'll be bold and say DOS might just have started the revival of CRPG genre.
I can't wait for Steam Workshop to be integrated and players start cranking out their own mods, gonna have awesome stories to play...
Is that a definite, or just a "we'd love to do that" type of thing?
The game is really fun. The combat can be a little unforgiving in the early part if you are underleveled and unfamiliar with the element system like I was, but VERY worth it to soldier through. Not unlike the crpgs during the Black Isle days that this game successfully emulates and improves upon.
I would say ignore the fact that this is a Divinity title. I haven't played a single Divinity game, but my impression is they are action rpgs? Beyond some characters and lore callbacks, the fact I haven't played those games had no impact whatsoever on my experience.
If you enjoyed the likes of Torment, Baulder's Gate, Icewind Dale, Temple of Elemental Evil in the past, or more recently, XCom and Banner Saga, this is a must buy.
As for Steam Workshop support, I would be surprised to not see it.
I have found that all the quests in game are really good, and some have twists that would not normally be expected. So glad I backed it on kickstarter.
Ending spoilers:
I kind of wish I had played it in coop from the start. I didn't realize that they'd weave the 2-playable-characters scenario so much into the story and ending. That said... for about the last 5 minutes of the game, apparently my characters are in love with each other? That really came out of nowhere, surely it didn't fit at all. The only hint of the "souls" being in love with each other was some hand-holding in the early cinematics. I would much rather they had done a "and they fought evil for the rest of their days" ending, instead of "and they lived happily ever after" ending.
Also, the last fight was kind of lame. There were a lot of fights to even get there, and while the void dragon was cool and had some breath attacks, it didn't push the envelope. This is supposed to be the devourer of all reality, and the best he can do is a 600 damage breath attack and some shadow minions? No... there are so many interesting ways to do boss battles in RPG games, and that one really was disappointing. At least if it had focused the Astarte harder, or something.... no, just disappointed. And it wasn't even hard. I had to savescumm pretty hard on some fights, but this one I made it on the first go. Bleh.
I disagree, not all friends are humans, there is also Imps and cats/dogs
This is one of the few games I helped Kickstart, and I'm very glad I did. This has been one of the best CRPGs I've played since Ultima VII.
I will be picking this up on the weekend. Since everyone saying its really good.
Waiting for the price to drop. If it beats out PS:T in quality, I'll set up an altar to Larian Studios and sacrifice small animals to them nightly.
