Update 5/25/2017
Well, I started a thread back in Dec 2011 that’s seen a lot of activity (some 922,000 views over the course of a few years apparently...). That thread had a good deal of tips/strategies/discussions about League of Legends from new and old players alike. You can find the previous thread (now archived) here: https://forums.joeuser.com/413863. I think its time to start fresh with a new thread.
What’s this thread all about? For those that followed the previous thread, the type of content you see here will be fairly consistent to what you are used to. Please consider this a place to discuss LoL related content as you like. I'll do the same and treat the thread as a blog as well where I talk about what’s going on with me in LoL. Feel free to jump in and join the discussion if you like.
Quick background on meI played a lot of Demigod as pacov/cheesuscrust. Back in August 2011, I started getting heavily involved in League of Legends, and folks from the community were kind enough to help me figure things out. I play LoL most nights, stream, make videos and it’s my main gaming interest.

I wish you luck getting your pals into TT. Not everyone's cup of tea. Still not really a fan even with folks helping me grasp the concepts and mechanics, but maybe it'll be a hit w/ your pals.
haha - you mostly have me pegged. Bah though - I do enjoy reading about the nerfs in patch notes - specifically if I've missed something, but even if I was going to take adv, you only get a day or 2, so its a waste to try to run with "temp buffed" champs. Also bard's kind of poop imo. Limited experience, but I have played him on pbe and checked out his kit. His biggest use would be in coordinated teams building strategies around his kit and going for surprise picks using his go through walls thingus. Looking forward to seeing if other folks figure out things, though.
What I am wasting time on is trying out various champs with the new jungle item on pbe. Um.. what about ali? Seems pretty strong on him. His clears are ok as well... not great, but ok early and he has sustain to stay in there longer if needed. Not sure how awful the ol quick gank ali would be. They are doing a patch on pbe now...

oh - and you notice a pretty freaking big difference between ali with the old jung item vs the new. Like really big diff imo.
also, they are pushing the synergy between the cinderhulk item and righteous glory
This item is actually very close to a healthy spot. We're just pushing it a little further so getting it earlier in the game improves its synergy with the new Cinderhulk enchantment.
jebus... lots of news today.

In short, you get a rating on champs you play. + badges... + custom emotes + ...asdlasdlkajsdlasd
I am really liking the direction riot is going with the jungle changes. Seeing nautilus, malphite, mao kai, amumu, ali (probably going to be back to OP status), sejauni, skar skar, rammus, etc... back in the jungle should be loads of fun. I think jungle champion diversity will be at an all time high.
might even get some terror leona junglers.
here's the new udyr skin in action
We'll see how diversity goes. I'm curious to see what folks do with the jungle changes now.
random pacov notes...
gromp buff. Easily the most valuable buff for tank junglers now. Dmg is sick good anyway. Smite this. Try it out and see.
righteous glory annie support or mid. Righteous glory any tank jung. Get catalyst and sit on that for a bit - upgrade to righteous glory when poss. Kind of thinking someone on the team should be getting this item in most comps.
zz portal still kind of smeh, but power levels are up now. I really don't think folks ever understood one of the biggest bonuses of this item. When it 1st came out, you could completely freeze a lane at any spot with it. Don't use it to just take turrets. Use it to keep waves from pushing. It lasts 2 min 30 sec. Drop it anywhere to keep any creep wave from pushing a turret. You get the gold from last hits. The wave never hits the tower. It WAS very strong before. Nerfed into crap in next iteration. This is the 3rd iteration and the power levels are back up and its at LEAST useful for the purpose I described. I think the ideal use is to place this somewhat deep in your own territory and then group somewhere else.
reddit has a note saying that the patch takes a bit longer than others to download/install. Might want to get the game updated when you get off of work, etc.
Oh its out today? dammit I was going to be productive tonight...
yup - bard has also been released and I main him. By that I mean I leave hunny in a lane and roam the map chasing laterns and flashing away from junglers.
GOTTA CATCH EM ALL GOTTA CATCH EM ALL.
Ash Catch'em Bard RIOT PLEASE.
Well Bard's kit is bazarre. Got to play him one game yesturday and it didn't go well mostly because I had no idea what I was doing. I like his Q, the health thingus is interesting. Not sure how to optimally use it. His ulti has very strong capabilities to swing fights but can also be used very poorly. Not sure how useful his "gate" ability is. I think I used it once the entire game intelligently.
Also his passive is such a giant cluster fuck of weirdness. Not sure if collecting lanterns is all that useful compared to laning and nabbing the ones close by. His empowered autos do a suprising amount of damage and have a AOE effect behind the first unit hit so they are a decent harass tool even if the enemy ADC is hiding behind minions.
It's like super confusing. I occassionally glance down and see what the next stack will give me. I have no idea what optimal play is. Actually, I'm finding myself really under leveled roaming getting the laterns... BUT being pretty surprizingly powerful w/ my passive... the sad part is that it surprised me as well.. It's really a cluster though as in game I don't think anything explains what he's going to get (eg I see what I get for the next level, but don't know that I get a huge boost when I complete 3rd stack, etc).
the wiki doesn't have a list yet...

toying around w/ zac jungle. Full tank. His ap ratios are trash. I don't see much point at all in 15 AP for quints. Any thoughts on quints? Curently red mpen, yellow flat arm, blue flat mr. Don't think AS is worth it - his jung clear is decent w/o.
Magic Pen Quints or Movement Speed. Health is alright too, but nothing scales HP wise right? There have been some discussion about making a skill on Zac scales of HP etc. so maybe not until then.
I'm wondering about cdr quints - thoughts?
I am really digging bard. It took a while to get used to his play style but he is very good at catching people out on the other team. His ult is like a long ranged morgana bind or syndra stun. If you hit a squishy that is solo and have some decent back up you will definitely kill him before help can arrive.
Bard's passive empowered autos SLOW targets by a substantial amount once later in the game so landing autos on to a cocky ADC can lead to him getting snared with your Q and blown up by your team.
Bard's Q can also be effective at locking targets down for either peel or snaring squishy purposes. It has a shorter range but is very good at what it does.
Bard's tunnel I am still not that impressed with. I think its biggest uses are getting around the map to ward and collect lanterns. You can also use it to disengage a fight some what effectively but your chasers can follow you through. I have used it to reposition in team fights infront of a fleeing enemy team before or to escape a team fight when low. Its a very situational spell and definitely a 1 point wonder.
Bard's healing relic things are nice for lane phase and also give a nice boost to movement speed. I have saved many a people placing the totem directly on top of a team mate to boost him out of a sticky situation or help dodge a skill shot. They are also helpful for getting your own stupid self out of getting caught. That extra speed is really really nice in those situations.
Bard's damage output is also pretty high for a support. His harass in lane is on par with Sona.
Had a very nice experience laning with a Bard last night. I was playing Tristana and we had some simpatico stuff going when 2v2ing the other team's Bard and Draven, who both seemed... fairly competent. But yah never know with Teambuilder right?
Anyway, I used to think that a safe farm under tower or from long distance Marksman was the best to go with Bard but Tristana's fast clear perma=push seems to work just fine cause it gives Bard some time to wander around. Also she's got a self peel and escape.
2 things - 1 guide for the new champion mastery (NOT masteries) for pbe is here: https://support.riotgames.com/hc/en-us/articles/204211284-Champion-Mastery-Guide
2 - There's a new program you folks might find useful. Its an item set generator that uses data per patch from champion.gg. This site tracks most common skill over, highest winrate skill order, items, etc. It's a zip file containing small text files that you extract and then you can see them in game. http://www.reddit.com/r/leagueoflegends/comments/2z7hkw/championgg_item_sets_updated_for_patch_55/
So, I'm really digging zac. Currently running 3 cdr quints. 4/0. 2 norm draft + 2 team builders. 6.67, 17.0, perfect, 15.5 kda. All as 100% tank build.

Last fight of that game really shows some of this champs strengths. Anyway, the weaker side is that he is susceptible to counter jungling to a degree. Late game the tankiness, disruption, and cc he brings is pretty strong so far. I'm digging him and he currently seems to be a little bit of a sleeper jungle pick. A full second knockup is actually a pretty big deal - especially when it gets on a longer cooldown.
