Update 5/25/2017
Well, I started a thread back in Dec 2011 that’s seen a lot of activity (some 922,000 views over the course of a few years apparently...). That thread had a good deal of tips/strategies/discussions about League of Legends from new and old players alike. You can find the previous thread (now archived) here: https://forums.joeuser.com/413863. I think its time to start fresh with a new thread.
What’s this thread all about? For those that followed the previous thread, the type of content you see here will be fairly consistent to what you are used to. Please consider this a place to discuss LoL related content as you like. I'll do the same and treat the thread as a blog as well where I talk about what’s going on with me in LoL. Feel free to jump in and join the discussion if you like.
Quick background on meI played a lot of Demigod as pacov/cheesuscrust. Back in August 2011, I started getting heavily involved in League of Legends, and folks from the community were kind enough to help me figure things out. I play LoL most nights, stream, make videos and it’s my main gaming interest.

But the thing is that it really is that bad if you play top 3 junglers. At least if you want to win.
If you look at high playrate/banrate champions, the top 3 are Kha, Lee, and Rengar. 2 of those 3 are at 45% winrate, which is strikingly low even for flavor of the month champions (Lee is more of flavor of the last 3 years, but you get the point). Kha actually makes it up to 50% winrate! With a lot of these champions you get to feel good because you dominate the ganking phase, but you don't actually get a good shot at winning the game because you give up too much else (usually in team comp and team fighting).
Now professional level teams can overcome the team phase deficiencies of these champions, which is why they still heavily use them. But solo queue is not LCS.
Am I the only one that plays on PBE here from time to time? Just curious. From what I've played so far of the season 5 changes for jungle, I honestly can't tell how things are going to shake out. Also, it seems like a waste to put a bunch of effort into figuring things out atm as things are still very likely to change. Guessing they might be close to what's going to hit us in pre season, though. Maybe I'll do some test runs tonight.
note to me... make list of my impressions on what I've seen so far...
I've won 11 of 14(yeah, I play a lot...) games as Rammus. I think more of the problem with jungle right now is that the top 3 aren't even that bright an idea to begin with and the meta isn't thinking things through as everyone picks popular, but not particularly effective, champs.
I don't play much, and when I do half my games are as support. It's rare that I even jungle at all and I'm a dominant force. I can guarantee one fed lane unless they're completely incompetent, and usually destroy two. I see Fiddles that smoke lanes frequently, and the rare Sejuani usually means the team won.
The best junglers are high CC champs in my experience. The most often picked junglers are, on the other hand, the ones that are best at racking up kills while their team loses.
Man - I really need to work some on not getting salty after some games. We played a few last night and it was kind of obvious that we were going to have a bad time at champ select. Doesn't make sense for me to get pissed when I kind of knew what I was in for. A bit stupid, eh...
Also, playing with a new madcast candidate fellow. Not sure if I'm going to get along with him. He's playing on a lower level account - not sure if he's new - I think he is... but he talks like he knows what he's doing... but he doesn't. hurm.
Almost done leveling my alt account. Sitting on level 29 now - so just a bit more to grind out and then I think I'm going to just play ranked on it.
Side note - the whole point of my alt account has kind of been ruined. Now, the main reason I'm playing on alt accounts is that I like to work on mechanics and champs I suck with against lower levels of competition. I'm not talking idiot level competition.... I'd just not like to work on rumble top lane vs a diamond top laner. Predictable things will happen. I'd rather learn against someone that is likely a smidge better than me or even with me in skill level. So, alt account bound. I play maybe 10 games against weaker people and then the difficulty ramps up over time (eg what I want).
Well, rito made a change that seems to put smurf accts against other smurf accts. This means that a game in team builder takes about 12 minutes just to find 5 people.... been like that since I hit level 25 or so. So, now I'm up against somewhat more skilled people, which is fine, but with a substantial delay if I want to do team builder... which I do... I'm playing on this account to practice top lane with specific champs. So, kind of makes the account blow.
It gets worse, though - even outside of teambuilder, I'm getting tossed up against diamond players... with my level 29 acct. Kind of jacked up. I'm obviously complaining about something few will care about or sympathize with, but it definitely seems like something has changed where the smurf accts are all tossed into that prisoner's island. While its good to keep me from getting matched up with new players (I don't want that either), it just blows that I have to wait a MINIMUM of 12 minutes to get another going on team builder. Maybe that will get nicer when the new map comes out.... but I really don't like waiting as long as challenger players have to get a game in... for an fing level 29 alt account game where I get to play the role I want...
I believe the 'Smurf Detection' has been active for a while and is one of the reasons my attempts to help my friends get out of Bronze V hit so many snags. I believe crazy good KDA's will flag the system whether you win or lose, which was pretty frustrating.
Oh, and are you still playing Rumble? You're on Reddit more than me so you've probably seen it, but I'll post just in case. This guide/Reddit post helped me out with some things:

yah that's what got me going on rumble in the 1st place. Thx tho!
saw this today re: kalista - 30 sec and worth a watch.
Last second platinum.
Congrats Bryff!
Grats bro! Nicely done!
I tried to trick karl earlier tonight by pming him out of the blue and asking him how the fug did he decayed to gold.
My friend Snipersbane tried to make a last minute dash to Gold V and failed. Poor guy has to have that silver border for another season.
My former Bronze V 400 MMR buddies both got close to their goals. One is Bronze I but had like 5 AFKs in a row and the other got Silver III. They were both getting 25+ a win so the MMR was where it needed to be but real life got in the way.
Re: Diamonds Matching With Sub 30 Players
I'm thinking that there might be something more to what Pacov said than the mythical Smurf Detector. I've been playing a lot with a new buddy who's not quite 30 and we played a ton of games last night/this morning and were getting multiple Diamond players in each game thrown at us. My buddy is a MOBA veteran and in fact works for the company making Strife, but he's not good enough where he should be on the radar as a Smurf.
It's far worse than that actually.
About a year ago, i was playing with my partner (who is Teemo-top-only in SR. We generally only play dominion bots). When we first played SR, i played on a level 5 smurf, and that was fine... However, once they were higher leveled (low 20s or so), we tried playing some SR again. i played on my main, at the time.
It was madness. Diamonds everywhere. One of the most silly games, we had a triple-queue Diamond I amumu Korean smurf along with two of his lower-skilled buddies (who were still good). The enemy team had similarly ranked players.
i am almost certain that the "smurf detection" is heavily based off of an account playing a lot of games with higher-ranked accounts, especially if it happens early on in the account's lifetime. If you want a "real" smurf, you have to level it in isolation, in my opinion. If you want to bring a friend to the game, then they better be ready to slug it on their own as well.
reading hedgie comments in the am.
So, here's a ww in the jungle preseason post. Worth a look.
PLEASE - skip up until about 45 seconds or you will want to explode... some guy you don't know blathering on about a name change for 45 sec..
Yeah- I'm not really sure what the formula is, but I personally think there's something going on that ties the games back to my primary account as opposed to other people I occasionally play with. If I were to wager a guess, I'd say I've played about > 75% of my games solo with the occasional playing together with pals. The wonky matchmaking happens when I'm solo (ex I play team builder solo and get 12 min queue time when my wait time shows up as "short" - playing standard top laners like gnar).
i'm pretty sure that the "wait time" is amortized. Challenger players will always have their "calculated wait time" as 1:30 or whatever but that is almost never the case.
Also, this is mostly @Thunder but if any one else has the LogitechLED crashes...
Rather than deleting the stupid .dll every single patch, apparently if you change C:\Riot Games\League of Legends\Config
C:\Riot Games\League of Legends\Config
and add/change the line:
[General] LogitechSupport=0It will just stop loading the damn things.
Eh, I think that I called that WW would be a problem in jungle and that he would get nerfed about 5 seconds after I heard about the changes. He is already strongish in solo queue, and pretty much all of the changes benefit him unless counter jungling gets super strong (and it never does).
With that being said, the build in the video is terrible. I don't have a problem with FF (or its new version)+BotRK. But throwing WE on top of that is just stupid. A lot of the gold on WE goes to AS. Jungle WW already has a lot of AS from runes, plus usually has AS from FF+BotRK+W. Why get more from WE? Especially since you get a lot of damage from the ult +Q, which don't even scale off of AS.
I mean, look at that game in the clip. He was playing against complete idiots (dying to pre 6 WW ganks easily), and he still took like 15 deaths because of the build. Yeah, its funny to blow people up in 1 hit in a skirmish, but if that move doesn't work because the other team is organized and disrupts your ult, you are useless. And you generally can only go 1 for 1 in a teamfight because you die right after killing somebody in the best case.
You need to not go so squishy so that you don't blow up right away.
Go back and listen the 1st min of the vid and then let me know if you expected brilliance. It's just 1 of the 1st vids I've seen covering ww in the j5 jung is all.
live maintenance going on now - either they are patching up the current item exploit or we are getting our SR map presently. New map is live in russia already for bots/team builder
SR MAP LIVE NOW
team builder and bots
Live map feels a little less "laggy" than the patched version... that might be in my head, though. Anyway, anyone actually not liking the update map? I think it looks great and really love the depth and attention they've given to the map and creeps/camps. Night all!
oh and I finally hit level 30 on my alt account. Let me ask this 1 silly question - do you folks think I should start playing ranked immediately on my alt or just wait for the season? I'm not sure if there's a benefit, but my plan is to quickly hit diamond on my alt and then bitch and moan about how my main is silver II after the reset. #pacovdreams
ALSO OH - you get icons for playing on the new map: http://na.leagueoflegends.com/en/news/game-updates/features/sr-open-beta-begins
A couple things - 1st - an apology. I had a really shitty day at work today and as a result was like super fuck this trolly (last game in particular). Sorry fellas. I'll be on good behavior next go round.
2nd and hopefully more interesting a topic - check this out - http://imgur.com/a/Hqd36
actually smeh... its dumb. Spellsy keeps coming out with really so so content. Check out the pic. It's a small sample size showing mid lane item choices from worlds... but, of course, its highly influenced by team comp in some circumstances(which is not shown)... what caught my eye was tf rushing morellinomicon.. and I was like wut? But its obv a situational pick and not really worth thinking about.
Anyway, I thought spellsy had better content but this is a couple times now where I've read up on his stuff and been like... this is wrong or this is pointless analysis that shows pretty much nothing... a tf build morellnomnom 1st.. in 1 game... at high level of play... I will now build this into all comps...
Huh? You seemed to be in a good mood and it was fun playing with you. Maybe I didn't care about you being trolly since compared to playing Captain Hindsight Obvious Negative Boy, you trying to snag kills as Support Zyra was simply amusing. Hunny Badger might want to learn to call shots instead of just complaining about what people do after the decisions been made the whole game.
Ugh, sorry I'm just bitter cause I ran into a scripter on my last game of the night.
Max glass cannon pure scaling offense support Xerath. Made pretty bad decisions. Made up for it by having the APM and reaction times of a Korean robot. Perfect skillshot dodging and flawless chaining of his abilities and ults. I had to use up Face and Locket shields before every teamfight to keep our carries alive since flashing would only dodge one ult charge cause wherever they flashed to would instantly light up.
I actually didn't know scripting existed for sure until this game. His buddy joked around after about how his friend was so good "It almost was like he was reading Shakespeare." Kinda bummed about this.
scripting is an epidemic with katarina players.
yeah - bot of legends... check that out. You would be very sad to learn just what is possible with scripting. Like... really, really really sad if you even looked at a 10th of what I've seen. scripts that auto farm/last hit, pull off perfect combos, dodge skill shots, flee... that's just some things... other things like the exploit that insta kills people, and so on. And bots that just farm ip/xp. Supposedly folks get banned for this crap, but who knows. I report em when I encounter them. On my previously low level account, you'd see farm bots a very high amount of the time.... like 1/4 games... maybe even 1 in 3. I usually go so far as to open a support ticket with riot to report those people. That said, all in all, I've currently encountered like 2-3 exploiters (crash game/insta kill) and 1-2 scripters that run crap like that xerath.
The real downside is that I honestly expect us to see more of an influx of this crap as it seems to be getting a bunch more attention on reddit... which means a bunch more people look into it, find the scripting sites, and appear. I'm hoping we get a scripting report option end of game, but not sure how useful that would be due to false reports or just people getting outplayed, claiming its a script but having no idea.. Always a bit of that happens as well.
Anyway, if you run LSI, you have a replay of the game. It's pretty quick and easy to open a support ticket (google riot support). you provide info and at least it gets looked into after a few days.
Riot posts about the current exploit.
The exploit work on BOTK, tiamat, upgraded tia, can also give inifinte health potions, etc. So, hopefully a hot fix in a comin...
Hi everyone, We are aware of the exploit that some players have been using to instantly eliminate champions. We are actively working on the matter to have it resolved as soon as possible. In addition, all players found guilty of using this method will receive an appropriate sanction for using it. There has been a fair amount of threads opened for that issue, and we will not be able to reply to each of them; we hope this post will help you see that we are working on it. Note that as always, naming and shaming on the forums is not allowed. Edit: No need to contact Player Support anymore as we have enough information about this and will not require individual reports. Thanks everyone!
