Before I tell them to set this up I wanted to make a post and gauge interest in this:
There's going to be a new fantasy strategy game from Stardock in the Elemental universe. It's NOT a sequel to Fallen Enchantress.
I'm looking to ask the team to set up a founder's program for people who are interested in getting a sneak peak at what we're doing and getting early access to it this Fall. The founder's edition would be $20.
Here is, broadly, what the game is like:
Now, as you can see, because it's so different we're updating, enhancing LH on its own dev path with its own meaningful updates.
Anyway, who would be interested in joining a Founder's Program if we put it up in June?
UPDATE: The URL for the $20 early Founder's edition is live: https://www.stardock.com/buy?s=ESD-SDE-W062
UPDATE 2: The E2015 Founder's Vault is live: http://e2015.stardock.com/
Not sure. As much as I love the elemental franchise, I strongly, (did I mention strongly?) dislike the tactical battle set ups. If this game is going to use the same basic mechanics for the tactical battles ('first' unit moves/acts/casts...second unit moves/acts/casts, etc) then I will wait and see.
I've contributed to far worse ideas... so yeah, I'm in.
Color me sold.
You can have my $20 when you answer this question. And by answer it, I mean respond "Yes".
Squares are so 1990s.
The early screenshots point to a decided 'no'. Sorry to disappoint.
Screenshots?? Did I miss something, where are these located?
We aren't planning to go to hexes any time soon. I don't hate hexes (I made it a requirement for GalCiv III) I just don't want them here.
Wait, I thought Hexes were 1990s: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_74Fj16-aWFo/S7XHeKSoxwI/AAAAAAAAKOo/_IUHw27ylxU/s1600/Foto%2BHeroes%2Bof%2BMight%2Band%2BMagic%2BIII+%2BThe%2BRestoration%2Bof%2BErathia.jpg
If it's Elemental, I am pretty much in. Only question is, can I run it?
Check Frog's post history. You'll see them.
There's a new art style for the new one. Since we have so many Civilization V people involved now, it looks a lot more like Civilization (land wise not UI wise). Specifically much crisper terrain styles. There's no guessing on what a given tile does.
How long were you thinking before our 'exclusive' beta access would happen?
I'm super excited. Can I just pay you now?
Will buy, sir!
Just give it a bit more epic feel
I'm in as a founder. This sounds very interesting. Ships and islands to explore you said?
When? Give us an estimate that I won't (totally will) hold you to.
Well... I guess I can thank you for saving me some money.
Personally, I feel like you're missing the boat with both designs. Distant Worlds is the perfect example of how a space game should function, complete with solar systems that are distinguishable one from another and planets that actually orbit their stars. Really beautifully done and the immersion is just light years ahead of anything GalCiv 2 ever did for me. Not squares, not hexes, but points in space.
And there there's fantasy strategy games... most have been using hexes for years, and the best of the new crop are all hex based, because it makes so much more sense from a strategic and tactical view. In fact, I would argue that continuing to resort to squares for a strategy game is making that game look somewhat dated right from the start.
I can find lots of pictures of computer games with hexes, going back to Incunabula in 1984 (and I'm sure there's something prior to that). However, the widespread adoption of hexes in 4x games is a definite product of the 2000's.
I am ready!!!
I am currently playing Endless Legend (Early Access), Tropico 5 and Warlock 2 (bough as early access).
Keep making 4X and I will buy
Alright guys, here's the URL:
https://www.stardock.com/buy?s=ESD-SDE-W062
I should have a private founder's area set up next week for you guys. This link will add access to "the game that we are currently code-naming Elemental 2015" to your customer account. When the game goes into beta/release/etc. those will automatically be added (you'll get a Steam code). There won't be a beta until end of this Summer but the founder's vault will give you plenty of stuff to check out.
Cool! Love the screenshot as well. If only the link worked. Tells me there is an error on the page.
NB and Edit! Made it work now by copying and pasting it. Order placed!
In like Flynn - Tron disc and everything.
For some reason, my direct link doesn't work but if you copy and paste it it works.
Bought. Very exciting!
FYI- there must be something wrong with that link. Copy and pasting the text works but the link itself didn't work.
Can't wait!! All signed up!
Bought!
I fixed it. Should be working fine now everyone.
