The ship designer is out now in the the alpha 2.0 patch, so when have a that ship designed feel free to post it here and so others can see what kind of cool things you can build with it.
OUTSTANDING!!!! The Ori from Stargate SG-1. KEEP GOING!!!!
Holy Crap! Batman! These latest designs blow my GC2 ones out of the water! especially that Galor Class Cardassian Cruiser!
Keep up the good work!
a small hull, my son calls them my shoe box ships.
Awesome!! memoryofadream
Here are some new ships I've done since my last post.
First... I finally have a Sovereign Class. WOOT! This is the hardest Star Trek ship design I've done to date.
An original design inspired by and based on the USS Defiant. This the USS Rebel.
USS Challenger. Star Trek Challenger Class.
Comments most welcome!
I wish I were creative
All you need to do is imagine a star ship and how you want it to look then start building it. Experiment with different ship parts, using the ship designer to make your own unique custom ships is like playing rock, paper and scissors. It's really hit and miss with ship parts, use what looks best to get the result of ship you imagined for the race your playing, discard parts that do not give you what you want. Don't be in a hurry to build, take your time. Save unfinished designs to work on or tweak later, Patience is the key here.
I agree with Rand. Great design requires experimentation and patience.
Here's my two cents... I find it helpful to start with an overall simple shape--some of the most iconic ship designs use one basic shape for their silhouette. Try using multiple parts to make something triangular, or circular, or square--once you've got a basic shape, you can always add other shapes to the design.
For example, those awesome star trek designs Rand is posting are really comprised of one basic shape implemented a couple ways--a saucer (which is really just a flat cylinder) and two nacelles (which are long, skinny cylinders). Of course, he's added some beautiful details as well, but like he said, that just takes some playing around and some patience.
Rand, what component did you use for the nacelles on the Rebel? It looks like it doesn't have subsurface textures... was it just really small and you enlarged it a bunch so the subsurface is just really stretched? If so, that is probably the most extreme example of that stretching I've seen--I'm looking forward to the subsurface remaining a fixed size when components are scaled...
Anyhow, looking great! I also really like your sovereign class ship--pretty slick!
Thanks for the compliment Trump!
Its really hard to explain the part I used for the nacelles. Best way I can describe the part is it's one one the Terran ship parts. its a solid blue conical shape with an exhaust port. I started with a medium starting block and when I got to the nacelles I just maxed out the scale to 500 for x,y,z and rescaled it after I attached it.
I personally like 2 nacelles style ships not 1 or 3 or 4 nacelles style. Rands ships are Awesome tho!! and so are most all the other ships posted better then what I can do. Keep up the good work Guys!!
Hallowed be the Ori!
I am literally on this season (season 9). I've watched the show about twice now, but it's still good everytime! Someone should try to make the Earth starships like the Daedalus Class. I could go for a Stargate themed mod.
You can (eventually). Carriers have been confirmed for months. Mormegil even talked about them in one of the live streams (either the first or the second).
YEs, omg, yes. Finally I will be able to make carrier class ships. Wonder how they're gonna work it? Once the beta comes out for the rest of the people the have the non-elite version I'm gonna try making ships from babylon 5. Hopefully they come out just as good.
Actually I've made all the federation ships in GalCiv2 with little problem, the hardest 2 were the sovereign and intrepid class, also made romulan ships too. Never tried the klingon ships though.
I also made Star Trek Ships in GalCiv2 but unlike the ship designer for GalCiv3 they never looked as good as what we can do now. Ship designer for GalCic3 is better suited for recreating star ships from TV and movies. I made over 500 star trek ship designs in GC2 with many that were my own designs and now they SUCK compared to what I can do with the GC3 Ship designer.
Fare enough and from what I see from the Star Trek, and Babylon 5 ships so far I think my Whitestar ships will look even more awesome in Galciv3...I'm hoping windows 7 will be able to run the game.
YUP that`s what I`m running!
Make sure your running a Win 7 64 bit edition. This is what my OS is. The game will not run on any 32 bit system.
Yeah it has to be 64 bit! thanks! Rand for adding that!
I'll have to upgrade then, lol. Thank you for the tip. Wonder if the computer will be able to use the ships you made if you set the AI up to use a race you created?
IF you set your race as Terran Alliance all the ships I made will work. When this puppy goes beta I'll put a ship back together and make it available for downloading.
Here are some new ships I did. These are custom designs for Star Trek ships I did utilizing the best parts of TA, AR and DE ship parts to create my own personal Star Trek ships. I wanted to stay true to well known design configurations yet give them a real GCIII look. Notice how I made some changes to the Reflector Dish to give it a more advanced design look. No cannon ship schematics were used and all design are large scale. I really like these ships and I hope everyone that looks will too. Comments most welcome.
USS Broadsword NCC-64246, Broadsword Class Battleship.
USS Celestron NCC-69053. Celestial Class Heavy Cruiser.
Enjoy the screenshots. Leave a comment if you like.
These last two ships are Awesome RJ!!
