The ship designer is out now in the the alpha 2.0 patch, so when have a that ship designed feel free to post it here and so others can see what kind of cool things you can build with it.
Ok people, one thing first: I changed the basic color palette for this set, so now the two sections of the ship will be more recognizable.
So, now let's go to see the Medium Hull. In this unit (let's say it's 90-95% complete, if you have suggestions to improve it you're welcome) the secondary section is placed in the front and is equipped with a medium turret and 2 small ones.

Made a second large design that fits the new look better than my original large hull design. I uploaded it to the steam workshop.
Also finished the medium hull. I want to make another fleet version of the medium hull that is two ships that travel side by side. Then I will do a cargo and then try my hand at the krakken lol.
Nice stargate Gauntlet! (by the way, you used the translucent sphere from the Tywom set to create that distorsion effect, right?)
Ok, now to continue my new project, we have the Large Hull. It took me a lil longer than I expected, 'cause I had a clear vision of the general design, but had to find a way to properly implement it.
In this case the secondary deck is placed below the ship and it's linked to the primary deck by the central section. The main weapon systems are the two heavy, four barrelled turrets in the front, supported by 7 medium turrets placed around the ship.
And now, to design the Huge Hull! (and the worst part is I have no idea on how to design it )
"Nice stargate Gauntlet! (by the way, you used the translucent sphere from the Tywom set to create that distorsion effect, right?)"
No... it's one of the weird spheres in the generic bits or whathave you...
I really like that design, though I think the turrets could be a bit bigger... at least the main two. It is definitely a interesting profile and I love the engines.
A Grell culture starbase... originally it is just one of the captured ships... then another ship... then it learns to put out advertising buoys and soon enough proper trade ships show up lol.
Ok, this one was a tough customer. I had to bang my head on the desk for a couple days before finding a good design, then I spent half the week fighting with non-optimal proportions, but in the end I managed to complete the project.
So without further delays, I show you the Huge Hull for my new set. The design is a sort of evolution of the one used in the Medium tier, this time the separation between main and secondary decks is more visible.
Now I just need to make some final adjustments and everything will be ready.
My shipyard is working on a new shipset, but this time the story is a bit different.
This time the theme is "Retractable Equipment" (turrets and other stuff are normally kept inside the hull, ready to pop out when needed). However the peculiarity of this new set is the designing process itself: usually I choose a standard set and use mainly parts from it to create my designs from Tiny hull onward, but this time I chose the Arcean set and the process went a bit off tracks. Those parts are so weird shaped that it's hard to use them, so actually I used very few of them and mainly as decorations. Their weirdness also made difficult to me to figure out good designs for the Tiny hulls, so I decided to start directly with the Small hulls then go back when I'll find good idea.
So, without further delays, here comes the Small Balance unit (as you can see, it has 3 turrets in the upper deck and torpedo launcher in the front of the lower deck).
Starship fail.
Let's keep going with the new set by introducing the Medium hull.
From this hull onward, you will notice I introduced another peculiarity of this set: the ships will be taller and narrower than my previous designs.
But it's not over yet. While the main shipyard was working on this, I locked up in a room with minimal food a bunch of engineers, ordering them to work 24/7 to create designs for the Tiny Hull. This plan worked, as they started by showing me this little fella I'm going to use as Balance unit.
I like the aesthetic of your new design.
Riddle me, though. For many reasons, the sphere seems to be the optimal general form. But I don't think I've seen anyone use it. Does the toolset not support it well?
You mean why people don't make ship designs with a basic spherical form (like the Slyne ships)? I think it's the current sci-fi paradigm, born when we shifted from the flying saucers and the rockets of the '50 to the more elongated and squared forms of the '80.
By the way, my squad of slav... ehm, engineers came up with a new Tiny, this time it's the Missile unit (ironically, so far the Tiny hull is the one that use lots of Arcean parts, both for structure and decoration).
In general, the use of wings and aerodynamic devices on starships annoys me. Tiny and perhaps small it's okay as it is plausible that they are atmosphere capable.
I've not played Slyne before but I like AI races. I'll check them out.
Your color combo is inspired.
My shipyard keeps working and now it's time for the Large Hull (the peculiar placement makes hard to spot the turrets in the pictures).
And now, for the Tiny Hull, let me introduce you the Beam unit.
A spherical ship design I posted to the workshop in May 0f 2017.
Last batch of pictures for my new shipset. Of course, it's time for the Huge hull.
It may seem that this model is underpowered, since it has only 12 turrets like the Large hull (although they're all heavy type). However, its main strenght is a super weapon installed in the bow. For Balance and Beam units is a huge hyper beam cannon.
The Kinetic unit has a huge hyper railgun
The Missile unit doesn't have a special weapon, so it compensate quality with quantity by having more turrets placements than the other models
Finally, last but not least, we have the Tiny Kinetic unit.
So, let me know what you think of this set. See you next time!
I love 'em.
This new design is something different.
Actually I'm not working on new shipsets, just tinkering around with some ideas. So, after studying several pictures of similar units from Steam Workshop (btw, a big "thanks" to Steam user Gato00 for providing me plenty of material), I've decided to try creating my own mecha-style units.
I've chose to go on a more "Mobile Armor" oriented approach (so thrusters in place of legs and generally weapons installed in the unit's structure rather than hand-carried) and came up with this very rough prototype (a Tiny unit). So I have a question for you: do you think I should push forward and improve my designing skill with this type of unit or should I remain on a more traditional type of ships?
Hi guys. Despite the lack of enthusiasm about my previous prototype, I've decided to stick to the mecha train. So I spent the last months tinkering and studying to improve my grasp on this type of units and now I've decided to start a new shipset based on them (basically, it's a race of sentient machines that travel through space by using giant mechanical bodies instead of spaceships).
However I want this set to be really good, so I'll go slowly than usually to refine the units. For this reason I'll really appreciate any comment/suggestion/critic you want to give me. So,without further delay, let's start with the Tiny Hull.
As in my early prototype, I decided to go with a "Mobile Armor" approach, with no legs and weapons installed on the unit. Being the creation of a race of machine (who will go for the more efficient form and then stick to it), I decided to create a general hull that can be modified for the various role. These are the Beam and Missile units (the first has a cannon arm, while the other has a pair of missile launchers on its back).
The next one is the Scout unit, which replace all weaponry with a sensor radome on its back and a pair of extra fuel tanks.
As you can see, each type of unit (Kinetic and Balance as well) will have a different type of head. Also, for the normal "hand", I decided to go for a claw-type manipulator.
So far things seems going good (at least none said they're ugly ), so let's continue with the Small hull ships (btw, I changed the color palette, this one looks better to me).
As you can see (here's the Kinetic unit), the main differences with the Tiny units are the weaponry (now with a pair of cannons mounted on the back) and the propulsion (with bigger main thrusters, as well as secondary ones).
Like the Missile unit, the Balance unit has instead a pair of large missile launchers on its back. It also has a secondary wrist-mounted beam gun on its left arm.
Of course, here's a closer look to the custom heads of thi units.
Another day, another design, this time it's the Medium Hull.
As you can see from Beam and Missile units, aside from the improved weaponry, the thrusters and backpack have been completely redesigned.
Like the Scout, the Survey unit has a large radome on its back
The heads have also been slightly modified to match the relevance of the hull.
