The ship designer is out now in the the alpha 2.0 patch, so when have a that ship designed feel free to post it here and so others can see what kind of cool things you can build with it.
Hi guys, did you miss me?
* an akward silence followed those words *
... well, I'm back to show you the new set of ships I'm working on. For this set (which will use mainly Terran Resistance parts) I've decided for a non-conventional setting, based on these points:
- no visible cockpits/bridges
- engines will be installed on the sides of the ship
- no turrets, weaponry will be installed in the hull itself (Star Trek-style if you want)
So, here come the Tiny ship!
First we have the Missile one (notice the 2 torpedo launcher in the front)
Next is the Beam (you can see the beam emitters on the sides)
Then we have the Kinetic Ship (with 4 cannons it the front)
And finally the Balance one.
Ok, here we go with the Small Hull.
The frame itself is quite simple, but I think it's quite good.
Of course, with weaponry it becomes better (this is the Beam variant). As you can see, the main focus are the 6 emitters in the bow, with 6 other on the sides. Considering the rules of this shipset, the other versions are basically the same, only change the type of weaponry.
Time for the Medium hull.
For this tier I ended up with 2 distinct designs, but I chose to use the following one (while I saved the second one for another tier)
Once weapons are equipped, you can see the drastic increase in firepower compared with the Small Hull (this is the Beam version), with double the amount of weapons
Woot, finally I finished the Large hull! This one was pretty difficult to figure out, I had to redesign it a couple time before finding a good project. So here we are with the final version.
As for the previous tiers, the focus point for the weaponry is in the front of the ship, with the sides and upper and lower deck to support (I show you the Balance version, so you can see the various type of weapon, Kinetic in the front, Missile in the sides and Beam for the decks).
My take on the Constitution Class.
And now it's time for the last ship of my set, the Huge hull! Honestly, this set was quite a pain, mainly because placing every single piece of weaponry was quite annoying. However, I'm pretty sure the set is really nice and I hope you'll appreciate it.
So, now it's time to show the general frame for the Huge tier.
And this is the Balance version (as you can see, same weapons' placement of Large tier).
Feel free to comment and see ya to the next set!
Right now I'm doing a little brainstorming to find new ideas for the next set, so it will take a while before start working on it.
In the meantime I decided to go back and look if I can improve the previous sets. The result is a couple new ships I'm going to add to my first set.
The first one is the Carrier. This ship has the same layout of the prototype I showed you a while back, only realized in a new and improved hull. You can't see it in the picture, but the launching deck has moving catapults and the turrets are animated too. You can aso see I installed in the bow a new model of torpedo launchers I created.
The second ship is the Support one, which, as you can see, switches all the weaponry for improved radar and comm equipment. Of course, since it has no weapons, the anti air defense system got a substantial increase and now is able to repel attacks from any direction.
Ok, the brainstorming is over and I found the theme for my next ship set. It will be "Ancient Technology" (basically, imagine a Precursor-era civilization that arise from hibernation or a civilization that develops its space technology through the study of Precursor relics) and works will start after summer.
So, for now, I left you an appetizer, in the form of the turrets I designed for the set.
First, it's the Bean Turret (technically the rotating orb should be a glowing sphere of energy, but I could come up with a good way to implement it - the Talan part doesn't suit well and creating a custom part require too many pieces)
Second is the Kinetic Turret (quite simple pair of railguns, but I like them)
Last but not least, the Missile Turret (capable of launching deadly energy torpedos)
Hope you like them. Happy holiday, see ya in September
Nices ships swherry, I like the style, quite "Sci-Fi from '60-'70".
Well, I started soon than expected but here comes the Tiny hulls for the new set I'm working on.
First, as always, the Missile fighter (pretty bulky compared to the others, but fits the role nicely).
Then we have the Beam.
Next is the Kinetic (born for high speed in combat).
Last comes the Balance (curiously, was the first design I created for this set).
Sorry for the delay, got some problems with my PC that slowed down my work. However, here come the Small hull. As always, first the general frame
Then comes the version with equipment (Kinetic in this case)
Feel free to comment.
I'm finally back! Problems with pc were worst than expected, but now I can continue to work on my new set.
Now it's the turn for the Medium Hull. This tier's most notable feature are the 2 small floating shields that protected the lower hull, both from physical and beam attack (thanks to the 2 shield generators they have).
Next is the Balance version, with all the available weaponry.
Another day, another ship design. This time I give you the Large Hull.
Like the previous design, this ship has a pair of big floating shields the increase its defense.
And this is the Balance version.
It's time to show you the last design for this set, the Huge Hull.
This ship has 2 notable features. The first one is a second pair of floating shields that protect the upper levels of the ship.
The second feature is the weaponry: aside from more turrets, each version of the ship has a different main weapon installed in the lower hull.
The Balance and Beam versions have a giant laser cannon.
The Kinetic version has a giant railgun.
And finally, the Missile version has an energy torpedoes multilauncher (ok, it's kinda underwhelming, but missiles don't give much choices)
Fleet Tender with counter rotating spin habitats.
36 Beasts and a human for scale
Great job swherry!
Personally I made an important discovery: you have played with GalCiv too much time when you start dreaming about the Ship Designer. Yes, you know that time in the morning, before awakening, when you're half awake/half asleep and your mind is free to go wherever it wants? Well, it was in that moment, a few days ago, when I had an epifany about a new shipset.
This time the set will be based on a determined structure: the style will be kind of traditional, but every ship will have two "wings" that extend forward from the sides, so the ship will remaind the head of a trident.
So, let's start with the Tiny hull, first of all the Balance version.
Then the Beam unit.
Next is the Kinetic (not entirely happy about it. What do you think, do it need some more work?).
And finally the Missile.
I've had those moments too. Here is the latest moment.
Had fun during Halloween? Good, now let's back to work with my new set, this time I show you the Small hull.
This is the Balance version.
Now that the new DLC has been announced I think I'll speed up the work, so I can go dive into the incoming new ship parts.
So, without any delay, I show you the Medium hull frame.
Edit: seems there are some problems with the picture of the ship's frame, so I removed it. Enjoy the fully armed version
And, of course, the Balance version
As promised, I doubled my efforts and now I can complete this new ship set by showing you not one but two ship designs!
[Edit: it looks like there are problems with copy/paste of the images and the forum so just follow the links to see the ships]

Hey I am new to the game and started playing with the ship designer. I decided I want to make a pirate race that uses space ships that resemble classic pirate ships. I don't know if it's too goofy for anyone else, but thought I would post the ships anyway. So far I have only made two.
You can check them out on steam if you want.

Looks good to me. Taking inspiration from the various types of sailing ships (there are for any kind of size and function) could be a good idea to create the models for all the tiers.
Here is one using the tiny hull.
I put it on steam workshop with my other boats.
