The ship designer is out now in the the alpha 2.0 patch, so when have a that ship designed feel free to post it here and so others can see what kind of cool things you can build with it.
yeah i'll try that
Here's my first battleship class ship that I worked on -
Very nice
Wow
Are those Drengin ship parts?
New Star Trek ship designs.
New Orleans Class Heavy Frigate.
Akira Class Battle Cruiser.
I love the head on look shots...for me...these just make them look bad ass...Great job Mr. ST!
Love the battleship xydonus, also the Akira looks like a sleek beast Mr. ST!
Gauntlet, JM, Thank you for the kind words! The Akira Class is the most difficult ship I have ever reproduced in the ship designer. I tried for 7 months to make decent representation of that ship and it always eluded me. It just never looked right no matter what I did. I had to chose my parts very carefully this time around. Thanks the the Thalian ship parts I was finally able to get the one ship that gave me fits and nightmares done.
Just 9 more classes of Star Ships left to be done and I will have every Star Trek ship class for the game, including my own custom classes.
Pre-Congrats! 9 to go Wooo!
Then you are going to work on Klingons right?
Major kudos to you, I'm very proud of my own designs, but you have to replicate a certain look, I've only done that a couple of times and I must admit its very taxing. When you are not under such restraint you still fidget with every part and can agonize but there just isn't that pressure.
It's been a while since I've done anything spaceship related and usually my tools of use are Lego Digital Designer, but today I was playing Galatic Civilizations 3 and I figured this design was too good -not- to share.
Presenting the Somnus Corporation Fleet Ship "Overseer" Mk. 4
The 4th revision of the "Overseer" design which started with the Overseer Mk.1 Sensor Array Satellite, the Mk. 2 Short Range Scout, the Unused Mk.3 which was the same basic idea as the Mk.4 except with older model Hyper-drive engines which where replaced with more advanced Ion Drive systems mid-construction - the Overseer was meant to be a long range Survey vessel to scout out potential colonization targets for the Somnus Corporation along with the general logging and on-site research of interstellar phenomenon.
Unfortunately, the Overseer and its dedicated 15 strong crew was lost with all hands when it was hunted down by a fleet of 6 Pirate Raider "Cutter" class Frigates in the Yggdrasil System and subsequently destroyed in combat.
Future models of the Overseer class where based on this basic hull, except with more advanced defenses and the eventual replacement of the Prototype Durantium Driver with a more advanced Quantum Cannon.
Omnibus has cornered the market on Klingon, Romulan. Borg and Dominion ( Jem H'adar ) ships. So I am going to tackle Cardassian ship designs next. I can't complete with Onmi, his ST designs are Awesome. I don't think I could do them the same justice he has.
Yep, all Drengin parts. Playing as a custom faction and have the Drengin ship style selected.
Awesome Ship there!!!
Hey guys!
Finished another Ship Set! This one is for my own pirate themed race!
You'll notice these guys have a few of the other race's fighters amongst their number... helps make these guys a little more diverse and represents stolen ships and mercenary crews.
As I make sets now, I also make the custom race, including adding portraits and backgrounds to the game... the eventually mod groweth...
How do you guys manage the scale of ships for each size? Do you use the premade ones as a guide for size? Or is there some kind of limit based on class size?
Also is there a means of fleeing from combat (ie wondering if a turtle or rabbit strategy would work) or is having weapons required?
So far I haven't messed with the ship yard too much, I've only done an alternate constructor design and a simple fighter so far but had some ideas for others that may be larger classes.
I've made some small, medium and large ship designs and in the galactic map, they all looked like the appropriate size. In the designer, I've seen some glitches in that: the designed ships were displayed incredibly small, in either the big list or the list of template images that are sorted by size. I haven't seen that glitch since the latest round of updates anymore.
My answer to the pirate scourge
NICE! I love it. The side disks are nice and have a good texture there.
As for scaling. GalCiv3 uses a sort of dynamic scale, and on the galaxy map, a ship's size is always the same as its class. Length wise.
So to get around that, you can place very small tube parts (they are in terran, black, very plain) and project them out from the front and back of the ship. They are effectively invisible in game, but will extend the scale so you can control your sizing better.
I like my ships to look relatively accurate to each other, I don't want my tiny probe to be half a medium destroyer. I get obsessive, regardless of scale, I try to ensure that turrets and fighters on all models look the same size... with varying success and failure.
Hope that helps!

An ambitious relative scale of a ton of different space ships.
Is there a finite number of rounds to a combat? I was wondering if a full turtle or rabbit strategy would work (ie lots of defense or evade with no attack). Or is it possible for units to escape from combat?
So I take it you would put the small tubes on there to extend the length and thus reduce the overall size on the galaxy map?
Ed I really like your designs. Great work.
thanks, I've been posting most of my designs on Steam's GC3 Forum now.
Orbital Asteroid Launcher
Fantastic! I love that it looks so functional. Though I was totally hoping the larger cylinder of the hull would be rotating too!
Thanks. If the large cylinder, there are actually two pieces, rotated then the asteroid containers would rotate as well, away from their pathways to the 'gun.' Ty for compliment though. : )
Here is my Sentinel. I use if for my sensor ship. It starts it's long service career with 2 hyper drives, 2 life supports, and as many navigational sensors as I can fit.
The dish at the top has a slow rotation (+30) as does the drive cylinder at the bottom (-60).
