The ship designer is out now in the the alpha 2.0 patch, so when have a that ship designed feel free to post it here and so others can see what kind of cool things you can build with it.
my latest ship
I really like the way the shields work on this, mainly because I'm imagining the scientists who constructed it running tests and nodding to each other like "Yes, this works, this is a warship that is fully prepared for battle. We have done our jobs correctly."
Got another design, I really like the aquatic feel of the Altarian objects, lends them a sort of grace.Anyways the front "dome" spins clockwise whilst the claws about the constructor module spin counter clockwise, the module itself is still.
Love the ships guys! Keep em coming!
@Gigglefish, what is the exact role of that ship? Engineless defense ship would be my guess, but the front spinning thing doesn't strike me as a weapon. Either way, really cool, I haven't branched into Altarian designs yet, but I look forward to them.
For everyone else... I am trying to standardize some aspects of my ship sets. For example, I really wish the game used absolute scale and did not subjectively scale units EVER. That would make it much easier to make fighters that stay the right size when paired with battleships or their presumed carriers/etc.etc. I can circumvent the issue partially by using a extremely tiny part off set from the ship at a length both behind and in front, to achieve the in-game size I desire. You can also use this trick to inflate the "Elevation" of the ship on the game board.
Currently, at base level, intersect with the selection circle icon, and you can't see much of the underside of a vessel. I'm currently considering offsetting ALL my designs by a standard height of 25-50. This gives you somewhat better view of the bottom side, no icon intersection, and makes the ships about midway height of a planet, it actually looks WAY better on the board in my opinion.
BUT, when you go to the ship viewer, the view and rotation controls become more awkward because the center point of the model is well below the actual mass of your model.
What do you guys think? Is that a side effect that should deter me, is the height aesthetic good or unimportant? I plan to release a lot of Ship design content once the game is done, so your opinions matter more than mine. The height effect would make my ships look a little out of place if you mixed them with other people's ships, but should I care?
It's actually just a constructor, the Altarian one just looked silly to me and didn't follow the aquatic theme the other ships have.
I'm not sure how well it comes across bu the middle but is meant to be sorta squid like and the right hand side implies a jellyfish bell thing, the left being the tentacles for both. I act like I have some plan for it but to be honest I just play around until something works.
The constructor module goes at the end of the stick and when it builds I imagine it rotate 90 degrees so the hood's on top and the the ship builds starbases beneath it.
Great use of the Altairian parts. It definitely suggests a unique sense of style and engineering. No real right angles is a nice trick.
I have been going through the pages the last few days checking out everyones designs and I have to say there are some absolutely outstanding ones out there, but everyone seems to be at a really good standard. That being said, it makes it a bit off putting posting my own designs but I have decided to bite the bullet and go for it. First i'll give you a bit of backstory of what will be my custom race(my knowledge of GC lore is next to non-existent so if anything I write is wrong, or even if all of it is, any help or feedback would be appreciated):The discovery of not being alone in the world caused many of the worlds religions to fracture and mutate. It drove a steak into the heart of the belief system of many, causing them to reassess everything they believed. After years of many feeling broken and lost, a man called Bran stepped forward claiming to be a prophet. He said that he had been spoken to in a dream and told that the old Celtic druids were in fact not human, but visitors from a distant planet.
Bran went on to explain that the druids had crashed on Earth and altered their true form to blend in with the Celtic tribes. Years of cross breeding eventually bred out any sign of the druid DNA, but Bran was told returning to the druid homeworld of Albion would reawaken any of those who descended from them. Many mocked Bran but with people needing something to believe in, his followers soon grew into large numbers. The majority of them came from the Celtic and Gaulic nations of Europe, with the other regions of the globe not believing in his words.
A full year after his initial vision, Bran was spoken to again, this time a set of specific coordinates told him exactly where Albion was. His followers rejoiced at the news and within a week all had sold their possessions and donated the money to the purchase of a colony ship, equipment, tools and anything else they would need. Together they would depart for what they viewed as their homeworld. Just over 1.5 million people boarded the colony ship, leaving Earth behind. Brans last words broadcast on television were, "We seek our homes, we seek the truth and we will be back to bring you salvation...We are the Knights of Albion..."
The years passed by until finally their colony ship reached the coordinates. A lush planet with three moons was visible through the main viewing window on the bridge, causing many to break down crying. As the announcement was made cheers echoed throughout the entire colony ship, they had arrived. The cheers were short lived though, sensors returned news that the only lifesigns were of indiginous animals. There were details of large cities shown, however they contained no life. As the realisation set in that the druid race had gone, Bran ordered the mission continue. Preparations were completed hastily and planetfall was made.
As most began to settle into the new colonies homes, Bran felt pulled into a nearby jungle. It was almost as if his heart was being pulled through his chest, leading him deeper and deeper beneath the green canopy. The jungle became so thick that light ceased to penetrate the vast amount of leaves above, but Bran did not fear, he was a prophet, he would be safe amidst the horrifying growl and cries of the darkness. It felt as if he walked for days before the darkness broke, revealing a pyramid in a large clearing. The sides were black, almost synthetic in appearance, with a staircase leading to doorway towards the top. Bran rushed up the stairs, his chest hurting from the pull on his heart. When he cleared the doorway at the top he was greeted by the voice from his dreams. "You are home Bran... you have brought your brothers and sisters home..." The voice continued to talk to Bran, telling him of their ordeal at the hands of a dark evil, an evil with no name. It wiped out the planets population, but not before they made a last ditch attempt to save their legacy.
The voice directed Bran to a console at the far end of the room. "Bran, we have been watching Earth since our grandfathers crash landed there. They chose to stay, to help try and guide you. Ultimately they fell to your ways and knowledge of Albion became mythical tales. This console houses the entire history of our people, study it and apply it to your own life going forward." The voice continued on in that vein before finally reaching its final point. "On the far left you will see a groove, if you and your people wish to realise your full potential, place your hand there...good luck Bran...our people now live through you."
Without hesitation Bran put his hand into the groove. The pyramid became wrapped in a blinding light, spreading out across the entirety of the planet. When the light disappated, the colonists had reached their goal and ascended to the form of their anscestors.__________________________________________________________________________________________Any and all comments are welcome.Anyway, onto the ships below:
I was trying to create a somewhat distinctive design that will be shared across all ships of all sizes. Cwm Annwn means the hounds of the otherworld and is representative of how the interceptors doggedly hunt for their prey. They have varying outfittings but the overall design stays the same.
I thought id try something different in terms of revealing the map and this is what I came up with. It has that many sensors it reveals the entirety of the maps i've played on with it so far. I'm going to do a bit of research and find out the sweet spot and then after that if there is any mass left, i'll invest in some defences. It has no propulsion, weapons, defences or life support as it stands. I simply plonk it next to my home planet with some ships for protection.
This started with me messing about but the more I went into it the better I felt about it. The design isn't final, i'm going to look at bulking it up a bit and try and sort out the overlapping, but for the most part, i'm pretty happy with it.
As with anything, I welcome all comments, good or bad.
Captain_Sully I bet that dreadnought looks sweet flying across the battleviewer
I haven't posted here in a long time so here are some recent Star Trek designs I have done.
Comments always welcome.
Tornado Class Cruiser, Original design
Pre TOS Asia Class. Constitution Class predecessor, Cannon design

Atlantis Class Heavy Cruiser, Original design
Stingray Class Heavy Cruiser, Original design
Edladner you are not far wrong. I may experiment with animations, i'm pretty sure that entire thing rotating across its center point could be fun. Out of boredom I created a template similar to what Rand Johnson posted listing details of races and their picture. If anyone would like me to send them the .psd file I can, if anyone wants me to knock them something up, just give me a PM. Anyway, here is my example of what will be my custom race:
Captain don`t belittle your talents both your ships and race pics are very good.Glad to see your as well as the others!!
I really like the Brans Eye design, It looks amazing and a bit meteoric in design.I might make a transport based on it that just straight up crashes into the planet then releases the soldiers. At least that give a plausible explanation for the ship being destroyed. If it's any good I'll post it
Well I've been busy with some other things, but I finally finished another ship set. I was initially inspired by the Vegyr from Home World 2, so the Destroyer is as quite similar, things began mutating from there though lol.
I'm particularly happy with the Fighter.
Gauntlet03 they look awesome. I prefer symmetry in my ships but yours are certainly good.
GiggleFish thanks for the comment. I actually borrowed your idea of a troop ship that crashes into planets, ill upload a picture later.
I finally managed to get to a design I liked and when I saved it as a template, I didn't get it back in the list.
Where did that thing go?
When you go to the designer, click new design. Then find the hull size of your template and it should be there. If not, try clicking on the black spaces in the hull size, ive had a few templates save without a thumbnail.
It's not there. I am 100% sure I saved the thing as a template, so there should be a file right? Where could I find that?
In my frustration, I did not save the game, but because the designed templates are available for every game, that shouldn't be a problem, or is it?
Did you definitely save it as a template? Obviously if not then it'd be in your normal ship contruction list.If its not that, the files are located in the following:(Your User Directory)\My Documents\My Games\GalCiv3\DesignsI'm sure that templates and created ships are stored there, but im not entirely sure how to differentiate. Either way, if your file isn't there then i guess it didn't get saved. I hope you can find it mate.
I've checked the directory and my template is in there. I didn't check on how to find it back in the designer, because I made it again from scratch (went better than I thought). Now I have another question (and maybe I asked this before), how can I upload an image in this post? Can I even do that in the first place or do I have to upload it to a hosting website and then put the link here?
Glad to here you got something sorted. You need to use a hosting site sadly.

Here is my troop transport inspired by the words of Gigglefish. The ship has maximum rotation across all parts and really suits the model.
I have another question. Why are my ships so small? I've built a ship on with the "large" starting block and every item I put on it had a scale of 100% or larger (maybe not in every axis, but you get the picture). But the preview image is horrendously small and the ship looks smaller than a car in the shipyard...
I want you to present the "Warmandy" Star Fighter

My colony ship: "Colony II"
I've always wondered about the huge losses that a destroyed ship would lead to, so I've designed something that can come into battle as one ship, with a powerful reactor, but if it takes heavy damage, it can leave just as quickly. Or if something important is about to explode, the three ships can actually split, leave the damaged main hull behind - as a bomb - and then retreat. In the event of a ship's loss, you only lose 1/3rd of your firepower (and manpower), instead of all of it.
The first result is this: a cruiser with engines that can turn around (now they're in the retreating position) and split up if necessary (so yes, essentially it's a whole fleet welded together by two giant steel beams). As it enters the battle, the particle guns are on the front of the ship, but when it's forced to retreat, the particle guns are suddenly on the rear of the ship, ready to dish out some punishment to overconfident pursuing forces.
I should've made another screenshot, from the other side, because that's where you can see the third ship properly.
One more of my remade custom designs. This is my 4th version of a BSG Battlestar designed for the Star Trek universe.
