I just got the Beta 0.41 patch so I hope they fixed the lag in the ship designer. Unfortunately I had to start a new game so new ships wont be forthcoming for while, I really wish the wold activate just the ship designer.

I finally researched huge hulls to find I had to design my own. The result was the first ship I've been really happy with:

Wolf class Frigate

Designed as the standard patrol and attack ship, every captain in the Arrimittium empires royal navy starts his journey in this ship. (stats on this ship aren't great, as I am pretty early on in my game)

Honestly I didn't even notice until you pointed it out. I just read it as Admiral Bob.

You've got yourself a good front end design for ships. You can export your front end so you don't have to make it for each of your ships. Just select all the parts that make up the front end and export. It is rather easy and then you can scale that piece to fit other designs.

I think the front end template would make great cargo and war ships for a great custom large fleet. Carry on Admerial_Bob.

So I spent way more time designing and playing than I should've... but what can I say, it's just too much fun. Here's the latest, another frigate.

The Majestic Class Strategic Cruiser

The counter part to the Wolf Class, Majestic class strategic cruisers are designed to be powerful long range ships able to operate Independently or as flagship of a Wolf pack. Should a Wolf pack encounter prey too large for the four ships making up the pack, or a colony without defenses, the closest Majestic Class cruiser will rendezvous to add the extra firepower they need. The Majestic carries a complement of Shock Troops, known as "Raiders" for pillaging undefended worlds. The hanger underneath the ship (which I totally meant to design)  will deploy the raiders dropships while the Majestic holds orbit above the planet and provides limited fire support. 

Creative criticism welcome

I kept the bow from the wolf class as well as the large tail fin and engine guards. My original idea was to actually mount engines inside the four engine guards to provide evasive thrust when needed. Not so good at the animations yet but id like to have (at least I like to think) that the guards would close during warp and open upon exit. (x-wings anyone? ) So I'll probably do another version with those engines. There aren't any weapons attached at the moment, I'm waiting to progress in my game (if i can stop building ships!) to get better tech and weapons and design some interesting turrets. Overall this ship is about 2x the size of the Wolf class frigate.

Rand, that's some pretty sweet new stuff--the Titanic is great, and I love the bridge detail.

And thanks for the compliment. I cannot deny the obvious ST influence. My initial design concept was 'how can I make a saucer without just using the saucer pieces' ... And I went from there. And I created several nacelles before settling on the more wing-like direction. I'm pleased with the outcome.
