UPDATE: Ship designer preview stream delayed until further notice.
Today's topic: the best-laid plans of mice and men!
We had some last-minute complications with our build, and unfortunately this means I have to cancel the stream. Please accept my apologies, everyone.
Unfortunately, this is the reality of game development. You can plan and plot and schedule out to your heart's content, and then sometimes the build blows up anyway.
The team is hard at work getting the ship designer ready for release to our founders ASAP -- trust me, we want nothing right now so much as to get it into your hands so you can help us make it the best it can be -- but it's just not quite there, and there are some things that are preventing even a Paul-driven demo on the stream this afternoon.
Again, I'm very sorry. I still fully intend on doing a preview of the ship designer via stream as soon as I possibly can, and I'll let you know as soon as I do.
I hate posting things like this, and all of Stardock hates disappointing our fans and supporters. This is why you see studios stick to the "when it's done" line so much!
But hey, happy Friday, amirite? If only mine hadn't already gang agley.

The ship designer preview will be on Friday, May 2, at 3pm Eastern (noon Pacific, 9pm CET).

To reinvigorate my question, will galciv2 components be in galciv3 or at least similar looking styles?
Can you guys show what the best components look like? I would like to see how much and how deadly ships can be.

Really looking forward to seeing this and how it is currently implemented in the game. I hope they give an update on when the next Alpha will be available. I asked during the last stream and the answer was still April but that obviously changed (perfectly understandable).

Ok now I have got that out the way, any chance of some static screen shots of it for the founder vault to give us something to look at and talk about in the meantime. Or you know a desing document for the ship editor .
Thanks for letting us know. Totally agree with econundrum that something like a screen shot or mock-up in the founders vault would be great to discuss, will soon be a month since it last had an update.
Yes without anything new to talk about this forum is starting to become a bit dead, so please, please, post that or something new that's interesting to talk about in the vault.
How about this, as an example of what you can do with the ship editor?
It is called The Biggest Wiggle 2.
To be clear, this is not a new faction, nor was it designed by one of our artists. It's just an example of what the Galactic Civilizations III ship designer can do.

you know I'm really upset I've had the last 2 Fridays off from work, i could finally watch one of the Dev streams live and participate in the channel and both days have been cancelled

like lets take an asteroid put some components on it and then have it infected by the zerg?
Actually the concept of a ship built around an astroid is a good one; how about an organic ship that grows itself by consumming an astroid. Anyway thanks for that it shows a few hints about the designer like improved animation options.....What I really want though is an indesigner screen shot so we can see more of a hint as to new features. There is already on in the vault suggesting that you can blend multiple materials in the new designer.
If there was anything to forgive because of unexpected delays, you'd be forgiven now.
That said, don't mind spoiling us with some more from time to time?

Will you be able to create starbase designs in the ship editor? Allowing us to create custom starbase designs (you know to set up default designs for a civilization?)
Visualization of weapons... are we going to see them?

Good thing it got delayed, I can watch it today. Even if its still decides to explode again its ok take your time. Blowing stuff up is half the fun.
