Greetings!First off, welcome to the Galactic Civilizations III Steam forums! We are so glad you're here! Before you post please read this as I'll try to answer some of the common topics that come up here.#1 $99!? For the Founder Edlite Edition?!Yes. The idea is to let GalCiv fans who are interested in the long-term success of GalCiv III. The Founder's Elite edition gives you:
The idea being a bit like some recent games that have come out that have let you do the same thing which can be convenient for those who just want to sit down and always have "everything".#2 Why not have a seperate option for those who don't want all that? When the BETA arrives, the Founder Elite version will go away entirely and have the regular version. We actually had this on GalCiv3.com where the standard edition was only $40. The regular version with early access will be discounted over the final price as a thank you to those willing to put up with Beta bugs. However, the ALPHA is a very different animal. It sucks. It's not fun. It's ugly. And for that reason, we decided that it made more sense to only share it with those who are looking to be with us for the long haul and thus looking at the long-term.By the time the BETA hits, the game should suck a lot less and be less ugly.#3 Why have an Alpha at all?The big reason for the public alpha is the same reason I had a public alpha back in 1993 for the original OS/2 verrsion of GalCiv (back when I was in college). Alpha access is early enough where we can experiment with new ideas that we may subsequently throw out. The downside is that it's a real sausage factory. People always imagine game designs being set in stone. But they're not. Having our most dedicated players sharing their ideas and thoughts early in the process can be helpful. Starbases in GalCiv came from the beta community (for example).#4 Why 64-bit only?We are looking for GalCiv III to be able to be enhanced and expanded on for a very very long time. GalCiv II was 32-bit and came out in 2006. By 2009, we could no longer add more stuff to it because we were out of RAM (all those ship parts for ship design and having thousands of unique planets gets memory intensive). 64-bit is cutting edge today but in 2021, it's going to be pretty passe. Having the base game be set up for 64-bit and DirectX 10/11/12 means we can do major updates to the game without having to start over.Anyway, hope that helps! I'll be around!
Agreed. Just because SD gave us access to the alpha doesn't make us SD employees. They're going to make the game they want to make.
I think it's sad, the forums are filled with BASIC unanswered questions, like if there will be a patch. Instead we have one hour a week to cram in questions in streams or sparse responses.
Everyone in SD reads the forums and not one person has a minute to type one sentence answers to basic stuff?!?!
Come on, come on I think they need to write as much they read. Its only a alpha with only a few constant posters, with only a few post that need answers, there should be constant communication every day. This isn't a mega corporation, we should almost be using first names when talking to each other!
But I will say SD is still the best I've run into though in the way of communication, but it can be better.
DARCA.
Darn; I was looking forward to that paycheck.
I have one question (for the moment)
Do SD plan on introducing carriers into the game; like a fighter hangar module?
I would love to build big-ass starships with ballistic, beam weapons, torps. and fighter/bomber hangars...
Or this is just too much to ask?
Carriers were confirmed to be in the game a long time ago. They are currently disabled and will be added when the combat viewer goes live.
My question is about Metaverse. Is it coming back despite multiplayer feature?
Do the city lights on the night side of planets increase when I build more things on it or when the population increases? I have noticed this happening on some planets, but I'm not sure if this is actually happening or if it is just me.
In one of the dev streams, Paul was proud to point out that the city lights did reflect the development of the planet. It was the same "Isn't that great!" attitude he has now about eclipses on the planets. He didn't specify whether it was population or building. It's likely to be some combination of both, I suspect.
Hi there, french fan of the game, that id here from Beta... the start.
I have a lot of things to say about it (excusemy english).
Thhey ware bugs and crashes during the 2 or 3 first Betas.. but since the 5/5:1/5.2/and the las (its the worst.) the game crashed every 30 minutes. My longest game was during 5.2 with altarian when i was a 2 turn to released my first "Hulk vessel.
Since yesterday, i can't play without the game crashing, about all the half an hour. and oftenly, i can reload, because it will crash again.
About the game in general.. Winning with the Humans/altarians he's quite easy (influence) with benevolant
Easy with human on pragmatism, and even malevolent.
Easy with drengi (if rush playing) in malevolent.
For the others it's quite hard to survive.. and even then the game crash very oftenly.
I have a good computer and good web. So ?
Thx and cheers, this game can really be so very cool

Greetings,
I had some questions about the game I would like to ask before I purchase.
(1) - Can I name my own planets once I colonize them?
(2) - What different planet types are there? For example in some versions of the game I have seen only Earth and Mars represented in our system while in another version Jupiter is there as well. What about moons? Is it ever possible to colonize moons? Do gas giants play a role? Gas giants within the habitable zone of stars could actually have earthlike moons. Is this represented?
(3) - what other aspects of customization may be present? Can I make my own races while importing their appearance? Can I make my own maps?
Thank you for answering. The game looks really great.
I have a question regarding starbase placement:
Does it matter where I place a mining base as long as the resources are within range? Is there a distance penalty of some kind?
Do the starbases need to be close to your planets or does this not matter at all?
Been watching the Dev Streams for months now and i really enjoy them. Starting to play for real since yesterday.
I'm sure this question has been answered, but I can't find it.......Did I pay $49 for a game that I get to look at for 2 months, the bulk of which time has been plagued with crashes so severe that much of the time it doesn't even load....and then when the full release comes I'll have to buy again?
Now, it hasn't been all negative.....when it has worked, other than never being able to finish a game before it hangs or crashes, it has been fun, but I'm on a fixed income, and it took forever to get the spare money together for the beta.
Thanks for all the hard work, though. I know I'm grumbling a lot, but I was really looking forward to this....I practically lived and breathed galciv 2.....I had hoped to be the same way with 3.
When one is seriously handicapped, it's nice to have a world where you can set all that aside for a few hours.
No, you already own the game. Think of it like pre-ordering and getting to play it before it releases.
Thanks, Ronin.....I was truly concerned about that.
I'm about to try again....unistalled everything and re-installing..hopefully it'll work now.
Hi guys.Do you need more then 8GB of RAM for biggest galaxies?
I believe you can do some of the larger gals on 8, but the more you have, the better, obviously.
