Hello,
I owned both galciv 1 and 2 and I was excited to see 3 coming to life.
That said when I looked at the price only one word came to mind: thievery.
I'm sorry Stardock, this will be banned but you should be charged with a lawsuit since what you're doing borders the ilegal (in the mad world we live in prob its not but it should be).
You can't sell a product and promise stuff that it's not guaranteed.
You say we get all dlc's and xp's , but what if you decide to do none?
What guarantee do I have that I'm buying a product that I like if it's in Alpha stage and you can change it anytime it pleases you? Hell, you can decide you don't want to do a space game no more , right?
I'm disgusted by this last trend of companies inciting people to buy unfinished products.
And I even haven't touched the price : 100 bucks??? Are you kidding me? So I pay 100$ and I still have to WORK for you?
I'm sorry I really wanted to play this game but I will not participate in something as shady as this.
Would like to hear some feedback, please. I hope not everyone is ok with this.
Suggest you look the word 'thievery ' up in the dictionary.
While you are being educated please also try to understand the concept of
1- Alpha status
2- Elite founder pack (vs other packs)
3- the meaning off trolling
If you don't like it don't buy the game until release and purchase it at it's normal price. Then you won't pay more than a normal game, won't have to deal with alpha issues, can buy DLC whenever (if) it's released at cost. Also producers don't completely change a games concept once it's in alpha. Galciv 3 won't suddenly stop being a space game. And I hope they change it whenever they have updates ready, it's in Alpha status for crying out loud. If they didn't change things I'd be upset.
1 - I probably know what an alpha stage is better than you. And I'll stop there.
2 - Call it whatever you want. You're paying full for na acess to 20% with no guarantees.
3 - I also know the meaning of trolling. It deosnt apply though.
And I also know what thievery is, and it fits perfectly.
Thats where you're wrong. They can do whatever the hell they like. If they want they can shut down the game before launch.
Thats why its thievery. You can't sell something that isn't there, such as xp packs, dlc's, hell even the entire game.
Hear, hear.
Nobody is holding a gun to your head and forcing you to buy the Founder's Elite Edition. Also it is not thievery if you willingly give someone your money.
You just proven my point. Thank you for your cooporation
I kinda see what u mean... you just need to look at some of the steam early access and you can get the feeling some company's do want to milk the pay me more early thing.
However this is stardock they have 2 of these under there belts, and since 2 had like 3 something expansions so will 3, as there is surely going to be many more times the people who will buy the full game when it comes out than have bought fonder people u can sell expansions too.
So basically stardock i trust so i did this. But! i have seen companies exploit the per-order and early access system so i think your fears are founded, but stardock is a company i think we can trust, there a good size for this to not too small where it could be just be a few guys trying to milk people out of money for a terrible game think Orion: Dino Horde (i couldn't stop crying) or too big like EA creating BF4 and i don't want to talk about it.
So yeah i trust stardock is what am saying but for other companies i most likely wouldn't do this. I remember X Rebirth a very annoying example because i loved the other X games so much so per-ordered that and urg something went wrong in the development stage of that game for sure, but it goes to show even companies you trust can hurt u.....
But am testing the alpha and even in its stage its a better game than Orion: Dino Horde to conclude LOL
It doesn't fit perfectly, as Stardock is not taking anything from you.
The game will retail for $49.99 so half the cost of the founders elite edition is with the game that is clearly in production so you will be getting that.
Second, by paying the extra $50 up front your supporting the game helping it along finacially, so if you enjoy the series and want to support further production, then you may see the value in this.
Third, you get Alpha and Beta access, which as they said many times it's not designed to be fun at this point but, to help locate issues. Personally I enjoy the Alpha to this point even if I'm looking for bugs/errors. I would say is worth spending a little extra for access $5-$10
Fourth, you got access to the founders vault, which take from it as you will, but if you enjoy the series you can take a lot from it. I would say that alone is worth $5-$10
Fifth, you get to name a star, which is a nice gesture, and have your name in the special thanks section in the credits, for reasons listed above, that your supporting Galactic Civilizations III and supporting it finacially to help get it going. $5
Sixth, you don't have to worry about Stardock later nickel and diming you for DLC's at $10 a pop or Expansions at $30 a pop as some other companies do out there (EA). Instead they give us as fans of the games a thanks in including this as part of the founder's elite edition. Yes, there is still a risk on our part that they never create any DLC's or expansions but, with that being said I would say about $20 of the extra $50 you spend on the founders elite edition you already get with extra materials even prior to release.
Not to mention, I would say our risk is minimal that they will not produce any DLC's or expansions as if it's even half as successfull as Galactic Civilizations II, it would still be highly likely that they will produce at least $30 worth of DLC's after release. After all look at (EA's) flop in SimCity, it lost most of it's regular players after the first few months, but they still produced many DLC's and 1 expansion, all at additional cost to a game that already costed $59.99 for the regular version at release $79.99 if you bought the Deluxe version which gave you some DLC's but, not all and not the expansion.
So, take from this as you want. $99 for no gaurantees is not accurate. This is a risk, yes but, that's really not a valid arguement as if the game is successfull which I believe it will be, you'll get more than your money's worth.
We are not reaching into your wallet and taking money. What you get for the $99 is well worth it. You get not just the game, but every DLC and expansion it will ever get--that is planned to be well more than $100 worth in total if you purchase things at release. But the fact that offering it all in one shot up front requires a lot higher commitment is not a bug. Tying that to the alpha means that only the most interested fans will be participating, and it's those folks who are more likely to give constructive, thoughtful feedback at this stage. There was a $40 preorder earlier (it was discontinued at the beginning of the month) that included just the base game, but with that you would not get access until the beta later in the year. We plan to bring back a normally priced, base-game-only preorder later on (this is noted on the store page). I wouldn't recommend anyone ever get a pre-release game if they are looking primarily for immediate entertainment, as that isn't their purpose. If you are not a huge fan of the game and don't want to get in and provide feedback to steer development while the game is still in its infancy and isn't fun, Early Access programs are not for you.If you are buying to have fun and want to maximize your entertainment dollar's value, absolutely wait for release, reviews, sales, etc. Being a little more patient for the game to mature means that you will be happier, and the developers will be happier that you are happier.
