Hi,
as a long time customer and subscriber I PLEASE want an honest answer if ObjectDock is still in development or not and if it EVER will work right on 64-bit systems (shortcuts always pointing to c:\program files (x86)) problem. I am really sadly tired of the update politics and public relations on this matter at Stardock at the moment (again). Seen too many good SD-programs going down the drain I relied on (aka DesktopX / RightClick...).
A general update-plan would be great and also a new list of dicontinued apps. Please. CursorFX (Multiplicity incompatibilities) and IconPackagers continued bugs (aka the nightmare creating and always losing changes on packages) would be also interesting. Please, no "But it works for me !" posts here, we ALL know, there are long time reported bugs that where never fixed.
i still wonder what this "gaspershooters" persona is all about? it seems many of your posts are about attacking people that report bugs. now i don't know any developer that wouldn't appreciate bug reports, as it helps to improve software. Stardock might of course be an exception, but i still don't see why you seem to be on a mission to create a hostile atmosphere
That's your opinions,I respected that, however,by accusing me always attacked people I have to disagree. Sometimes, there were things that easy to understand/contemplate/realize than kept pestering trivia that have been answered/known. I believe I did help users on some issues and that can be verified via my records. To put it simply,I have just commented I really think, there is no specific personal attacks whatsoever. You want my mouth shut?? I will do that on this thread as someone advised.
(Frankly,it's quite cliché that irrelevant topic (characteristics) being brought out just because comments are not nicey-nicey.)
Actually your screenshot shows the issue with Aero.
Look at this (http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h313/gevansmd/startmenu3_zpsd6e06956.png) and look at the bottom just above the shutdown button. Notice how the glass changes colour there as a line in line with the left hand side All Programs button. That's because the image used on top right of the menu is not being painted. All you are seeing is the blur with the OS blur colour.
As mentioned above it isn't as obvious with Aero simply because the image used on top of the blur is fairly transparent, but the issue is still there.
So the issue is a Windows 7 explorer one with repositioning the Start Menu not a WindowBlinds issue.
Gaspershooters : You and me have issues beause of Your "I know everything" attitude. You often have no clue what it is all about and shoot totally nonsense advices into threads (See that Folder/Stacks thing). If You find that helpful, so be it. I do not.
Some people here have a LONG history in reporting bugs, making suggestions and actually caring about the products Stardock offers. That can be very frustrating at times even considering the think SD has a great product and witnessing how that product gets absolutely no love by it's creator. While some are sheep and hold their mouth shut to not disturb that happy-happy feeling they became so comfortable with, others question from time to time if everything is really allright in 'my liitle pony land'.
I don't have issues with you and I don't care who you are. Get along or not,I don't care. Move on,life goes on. As I said,it's quite "strange" people always tend to point out that because someone treats me badly/hurts my feeling or not agree with me,I have to let everyone know. Grows up,kids.
(This is really get me tired, the last responds. Have you any questions/problems,just Pmed Mods or me.)
I would wager some of it might have to do with the fact MS seems to be dropping Os's like flies lately. Not to mention 95,98 and XP from what I understand were fundamentally similar so I would think it was easier to keep up on them.
After XP was released developers had 6 long years to get stuff working smoothly.. but after Vista's release there have been 2 new Os's released, in just 5 years. With all the changes between vista, 7 and win8 I would think it may get a little hard to keep up at times. Especially considering most of the SD stuff isn't your typical "run on top of the desktop" type of programs..
This desktop customization software deals directly with the OS's innards, in way's most folks couldn't even understand or want to. One little patch from MS could undo month's worth of work and send them back to the drawing board again. Much less trying to develop it for multiple os's at the same time. I would also Imagine that constantly getting griped at ad's to the stress they experience daily trying to sort this shit out.
I know from first hand experience that a developer wants to see his product succeed, he loves to get stuff to work, he loves seeing folks enjoy his creation.. and revels in the Kudo's that come with it.
It would also seem that Neil stated one of the issues with the start menu was a limitation of the OS. So why still beat on that dead horse? I would also imagine that possibly some of the other bug's are along the same line.
If at the least keep it civil, I can guarantee these guys aren't just sitting in the back drinking coffee and laughing at your dismay. Ive known some of them for years and their just not like that.
For those who think they can... I challenge you to do it better.
HG.
Exactly. Well said, HG.
Again a Stardock/WC related person goes into that automatic 'defending Stardock at all costs' mode. You fail to understand what this is all about. It is less about the bugs, it is about the attitude not to inform customers anymore except for that few favorite toys, which are so high on the prioirity-list that the programmers simply have no chance to care for that other ugly kids anymore. It is not that I think the programmers are lazy or something.
Conclusion: If Stardock thinks some programs simply are not worth to be continued, so be it. But please be honest and say so. But as for now, I am still waiting for the answer to my original question.
This exactly is the point. There is no need to "defend" Stardock as no one meant to harm them. And they do great work on most of the other products (i use). And no one has a problem with a little sarcasm where it fits, don't you?
The point here is, that this special product get's way less "love" (as c242 put it) than all the other i know and use personally. And if this is meant that way – or whatever the reason is – we are simply asking for an statement. It surely is more easy to wait for something you know they are working on instead of not knowing even that, right?
So i don't get why there are some people not understanding this simple thing or even need to "attack" other users (but i guess none of the people here really meant it that way). If it does not interrest you or you are not affected by the problems we others have, so why don't you just ignore our thread? Obviously here are more people having problems than those that have none (i myself do not share all the problems mentioned here). Of course, not every problem is a bug or Stardocks "fault", but some are – as their own support confirmed. And all that is not the question behind all this because it is clear already.
So, doesn't the so often called "netiquette" do not count for the Stardock forums? Come on guys, you can do better than that! In the end they will close the thread as off-topic and no one will benefit from it. Why not instead trying to help each other, gather informations for Stardock to watch and maybe, in the end, they will do something about it.
So, i will do a list and description of all the problems i have found so far shortly and post it here to be more constructive. Let's see what happens ...
Well if this thread goes on I will get demoted and banned for speaking up again at some point. That was what always happened...
THen let's get back to topic. I don't know if you recieved my PM, but maybe it's better to do this here so others may benefit from it also: regarding your 64-bit link problem, can you please explain what exactly you do to create those links? I mean every single click on your mouse! Since i'm working with no problems on a Windows 8.1 Pro (x64) "Update" and had no problems with this so far on 64-bit systems, i may be able to solve this when you are willing to bring in the informations and maybe do a little of testing ...
For me, i use three docks simultanously on a two monitor set-up on the second (right) screen: a taskbar replacement on top with full folder preview, a systray replacement bottom right and a tabbed main dock with all the links bottom middle. First question here would be if you are using a tabbed dock or an animated one (those that are created as a default dock after installation) as they are not the same technically.
When i create a new link, independent from the source or path, i disable icon locking, simply drag the file to the dock and re-enable icon locking. That's it. However, i guess you are doing something very similar and you also said that it only is problematic when you are linking to "C:\Program Files", if i understood that correct? And when you try to use the link, it only points to "C:\Program Files (x86)" or does it have the correct and full path and just replaces "Program Files" by "Program Files (x86)"?
That far for now ... awaiting input!
I would not count on being demoted nor banned for asking simple questions. Personal attacks, belligerent attitudes and being rude can see one be censured.
I do not work for stardock, I give my time freely to the community. Why because the community has given me so much over the last 17+ years. A debt I could never repay..
I did not jump in to scare/threaten anyone nor to be a SD fan boy.. I have worked first hand with many of these guys for over a decade.. Beta testing, bug reporting etc.. I know they care about their product, I know they want it to be the best on the planet, and I know if they had knowledge and could they would tell us if it was headed towards a legacy product, they would.. The fact that they haven't answered the question makes me believe they just don't know.
I just really did not want to see this thread degrade like some of the threads past, and have a bunch of hard feelings over it..
Carl.. over the years you should know me by now.. I'm fair and honest with the community and try to keep the peace. I care about your feelings on the matter as much as the dev's and would be standing there defending you if the tables were turned.
Please remember folks the SD staff just like the Wincustomize staff have always been like family to the community. Most of us were community members long before we stepped up.. Just treat each other with respect, words said in haste can never be retracted once said..
Cheers.. HG
I highly respect Your post and I am really touched by that aand I meant no disrespect to You nor coumminity helpers nor any Stardock employee.
But: I would respect something like 'The fact that they haven't answered the question makes me believe they just don't know.' for Freeware. But we are talking a whole selling product line here.
I am not sure, if we would really have seen such an amount of decreasing IconPackages for example, if IconPackaging wasn't such a frustraing process up to just gving up to even try. DesktopX was the same.
And back to topic I am sure, ObjectDock would still sell well with some bugfixing and feature adding (like integrating Stacks for example).
It could be that the Powers that make those decisions haven't passed the word yet.. it could be that with all the new os's and stuff their having difficulty trying to keep up.. it could be that MS releasing patches fubars their fixes and they have to back and start over, thus delaying updates/fixes....It could be that some bug's aren't seen as critical and fall to the wayside so they can focus on more critical ones.. it could be that they are totally reworking OD and dont have the time to post status update's. it could be their totally reworking OD and the other programs and have been sworn to secrecy till release.. (I'm personally hoping for the latter)
At this point all we can do Is speculate and hope for the best. They will tell us whats going on when they can.. I know the wait can be exhausting at times. But typically SD makes it worth our while.
I like the way you see it (even that was clear to me before) and i also hope for the latter. It kind of was like that before ObjectDock 2. However, it is strange that this applicatioin seems to be always the last one taken care of. Or i just have luck with the selection of the other Stardock products i use, maybe.
I cannot comment on the ObjectDock bits as that's not an area I am involved in and I know next to nothing about it, but I can comment on why some apps get updates and others do not.
Each app has a development team and the development team for one product or group of products may not be involved with another. So for example Start8, ModernMix and WindowBlinds all share the same development team, and Fences and ObjectDock have a different team (but share one themselves).
So that's why a product such as say Launch8 gets an update when ObjectDock does not. It is not a question of priority, it is simply a case of the availability of the development team for those products.
I will say that in general you should purchase a product for what it does today and not what it might do in the future, but that applies to all the products or games.
Well I just installed ObjectDock 2 Pro on my Asus notebook, Windows 8.1 x64, and thus far I have been able been able to open the start menu on the right of my screen using the docklet, and have successfully added a 64 bit version of 7Zip from the program's folder, though not from a shortcut, as was expected. However, while this may not be the preferred method for some, and drag and drop for all dock items would be nice, it's not that great an inconvenience to me. It may take a little longer to add items via the program folder, but it's not like I will have to repeat it over and over once I have to dock set up to my liking.
Yes, having said I can live with it, I along with everyone else, would appreciate that some love and attention be given to OD2 to improve 64 bit functionality, etc.
Well said!
Well said again HG!
Those who have been in the community for awhile can attest to that!
"But typically SD makes it worth our while"
Seeing today what has been done with Multiplicity lately, I must say : 'Hell, yes !'
Personally I like the anticipation. This way when something like an update or new arrival comes along I have something to get excited about.
That's a bit like appreciating the bad times as well... so you know the difference and can really, really appreciate and enjoy the good times.
As for the update, well I don't like to complain and will make do with workarounds, but hopefully the guys/gals will get around to it soon and give OD some attention.
Lately as in..?

The only suggestion I can offer about this and the issues some people have verses other not having any issues is this: Many times when I had issues with Stardock software it was because something was "off" about my system. It could be registry errors, a program that needed to be deleted, or I had a virus/spam/whatever that needs to be taken out.
I am not running OD on my Win8 system (I was thinking about doing it though because my laptop is a touch screen and iit would be so much easier to use OD than Fences - unless Fences has some setting where you can hit an icon once... but still ts just animated awesome like OD)
Another suggestion:
Use ObjectDock 1.9... its a sucky suggestion but it might just work better on the system. Is ObjectDock a 32 bit application? Not that it should matter that much but it may be part of the issue.
Using ObjectDock 1.9 also might even fix the issue, then re-install OD2 again and see what happens.
My Honest Opinion:
Personally I think ObjectDock will be updated eventually, but keep in mind that MS seems to keep updating Win8. Maybe when things settle down with Win8, their will be an update. Gotta keep in mind that most OD users are probably on older systems and they are doing just fine.
I also remember back in the day when Apple tried to sue Stardock about ObjectDock and they failed is a big way. I'm sure Stardock wants to keep what makes windows even more usable and fun. ObjectDock has to be one of the most popular system apps it has (I'm guessing) except for maybe Windowblinds (and maybe Dreamscapes).
Yeah I know.... the original reason why this thread was made:
I know the stuff I wrote doesn't even come close to answering the original reason why the thread was made, but I hope it helps. To reiterate, I would definitely run a Registry check, see if their is any spyware/malware on the system, then un-install and re-install ObjectDock is necessary and see what happens.
