Hey everyone, just curious if there has been an official stance on being allowed to do lets plays and/or live steams once the Alpha is out. Tried a search, couldn't find anything. Thanks!
About the middle of March is the last I heard.

Not till march. Let's plays and/or live streams what are you talking about playing the alpha.
Not till march what? He's asking if he'll be allowed to upload videos of himself playing galciv 3 alpha.
First off Ryat, and admiralWillyWilber, Markon, wasn't asking when the Alpha was to be released as this post wasn't asking this. It was asking if he was able to play the Alpha via live streams once it was available for us to use.
As far as your question Admiral, live streams meaning broadcasting a live video of one playing the game for others to see. If I remember correctly this isn't a problem but, I'm sure Stardock will provide specifics once released.
>.<
I would say so. Though, I doubt it'll be very impressive.
I can't recall does Stardock have a general 'video monetization' policy? Given YouTube's recent draconian stance on let's play videos, we have to 'ask' just in case YouTube decides monetizing an alpha footage lets play video is some kind of violation of the Geneva Convention.
Thanks for answering my question!!!
Here is what Kryo said about it:
Hooray, thanks for the answers everyone! I'll be sure to pay attention to anything the company puts out, not break any guidelines/rules. And of course I'll put up something in the forums with my twitch account. Heck, I may start with Gal Civ II....
As mentioned above, I think it being clearly indicated that it's an alpha/beta is very important. Not everyone follows development and I've seen way too many times people that think an alpha/beta is the final product.
I will be sure to indicate that about 20 times an hour or so, because I definitely agree.
I'm happy to see this. One of the wonderful things about those vids is the experiece of watching someone learn about a new game.
This sounds like a good work around for those of us hungry to see but too broke to buy the alpha. I will be looking for the LPs with great eagerness. And I don't usually watch those things!!!
This is a great way to advertise the game. I know I watched a couple walk throughs of distant worlds before I decided that the game was worth buying.
I'm with you Admiral, I watched several YouTube playthrus of DW before I committed.
LP's generally help garner support and interest, so unless they specifically tell us not too, we should be okay.
The second question is whether or not you are allowed to monetise the content - be sure to ask if you plan on doing so.
I for one don't monetise my YouTube channel - but most people tend too and this changes things - so check with the devs.
You can try but Steam's "Early Access" with the banners that literally kick you in the head telling you what it is, developers putting gigantic disclaimers like DayZ "DO NOT BUY THIS" on thier store pages, Planetary Annihaliation the game itself screams "THIS IS A BETA!!!" when you launch the game, and people STILL whine the game is 'broken'
You can't beat stupidity out of people, trust me, I've tried
Welcome to Let's Play: Galactic Civilizations 3!
First we'll just...um...okay and over there, that is...uh...sorta...
And we've crashed.
Please tune in tomorrow for another exciting installment!!1!
True, but you can try to minimize the impact.
I loved doing Elder Scrolls Online beta and having people bitch 'n moan about how the game shouldn't be out yet. I had to completely turn off and ignore the chats because too many of my braincells were committing suicide.
Chat in every MMO beta, ever. Man. I was in [redacted] recently, and it was the same as ESO chat in beta. The same as Rift chat in beta. The same as Tera chat in beta. The same as... well you get the idea. It's goofy.
Hopefully my fellow GC3 alpha testers will be able to rub their two braincells together and figure out that it's a WIP.
And what if one of braincells went AWOL?
