We talked about our favorite games of 2013 in another post, so lets go forward and talk about what we are looking forward to in 2014.
There seems to be lots of games coming in 2014, and these are just a few of that I can think of off the top of my head.
What are you looking forward to this year?
A couple of games
a) An indie game called Void Destroyers on Steam Greenlight
D3 Expansion - (loved playing co-op with family and friends)
c) Warhammer 40K : Storm of Vengeance
d) Dragon Age : Inquisition
e) Witcher III
f) GC III (Of course)
Where you seen those? 6 hours, tops. Maybe 7, if game is long.
If we try to distance ourselved from our preferences, what is the difference between WL2 and GC3?
Both offered "early", only GC3 offered even before it was cool alpha.
"Earlier" access costs more than "later" access. By the way, I remember Planet Annihilation WTF when I saw the price.
Basically, the only difference is that GC3 is partially "community funded" through pre-order, and WL2 funded only through KS.
And I don't really know we should call GC3 "AAA" - it doesn't look like anti-aircraft artillery those "ultra linear console-influenced story-based FPS", with celebrities on voice-over and story-line told in phrases which could be used for outro song.
Yes, I consider "AAA" to be negative meaning.
What's wrong with it? I liked first Witcher combat because it was first and only game with "QTE" I could tolerate. Not just meaningless clicky-clicky-click, but well, rhythmic clicky-clicky-click! It wasn't annoying, wasn't about click-per-minute rate, you had to pick up proper style - almost ideal controls I could imagine.
W2 gave us different combat, and even if I miss W1 combat, I got used to W2. I even like it, to an extent, even if I'm not sure it fits the Sapkowski's writing.
At least it gives better feeling of actually participating in combat that Skyrim (or any TES's) picking and poking. Not sure for Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, it was quite different.
What's Wl 2. What are the abbreviatopns for this. Is it a space game like Galactic civilizations 3.
WL 2 is waste land 2
So far looks more like "wasted" land. DUI of a sort.
Wasteland Doesn't sound like a game like Galactic civilizations 3.
More like the original fallout
Age of Wonders 3 - looks great from videos.
Endless Legend - From the makers of Endless space, my most positive space experience in 2012. Actually this might not be out in 2014.
Dungeon of the Endless - played the alpha, I think this might be a very strong contender for "best surprise of 2014" for a lot of people when it is finished.
Anything from W40k franchise. Seriously. Like, seriously.
Battlefield 4 in a playable state should be interesting. Mantle support sounds cool.
NONE SHALL FIND US WANTING!
I mean come on, Games workshop started to give away rights to everyone, it's inevitable we will (again) have a bucketload of mediocre products. And if Battletech fans got a huge cistern of pigwash straight away, WH fans going to scoop that cistern with spoons (if not forks).
I'm not even sure Relic or Creative Assembly, if that's matter, could give us something worthy now.
Yikes! Pre-order cancelled!
Obviously I'm not big fan of Bethesda's work, in all meanings, especially when it comes to supporting their software, including pre-release testing and polishing.
Of course, thank them for reviving series, but they should keep their clumsy hands and incompetent minds as far as possible. Otherwise we'll got another "Oblivion with guns". Vegas suffered a lot from Bethesda's heritage, even with all Obsidian's double-edged traits.
Sorry if I sounded rude, but Fallout is one of my most favorite games ever, and I can't take lightly when some people are fiddling with it, moreso when they have little knowledge on the subject, like Besthesda.
Warlock 2
Age of Wonder 3Wasteland 2Shadowrun: BerlinClockwork EmpireProject Eternity
Age of Decadence
Must try
Worlds of Magic
Gonna try
Age of Wonders III
Wasteland II
Seriously don't have any other new game that I look forward too. I don't know of that many.
Was thinking of giving HOMM VI a retry - never did finish
In this order:
1. GalCiv3 (or was that 2015?) The king of space strategy 4X!
2. Endless Legend (from what I've read it seems like a real grand strategy fantasy with alot of hard, interesting choices. Perhaps it can even rival FE for the fantasy strategy throne?)
3. Worlds of Magic
4. Age of Wonders III (Seems abit light strategy wise compared to FE, Endless legend and Worlds of Magic, but I need to buy it anyways. Who knows, it might be a good strategy game too).
5. Predestination and M.O.R.E (can't decide yet whom of these will be the best game, both look rather promising. But with GalCiv3 coming up, and even with MP, they need to be really special to steal my time).
All this...and not one person hoping the Homeworld remasters work out well? What's wrong with you people (I might forgive those who aren't thrilled for HW2 to come back...but the first Homeworld was top shelf in its time).
In any case, I'm really only looking forward to...
Space Engineers
Galactic Civilizations III
the remasters of the Homeworld games
EVE: Valkyrie
and Kerbal Space Program.
Though, this Worlds of Magic might be interesting. Lots of games have claimed to be "spiritual successors" to MoM, and so far, all have fallen pitifully short. Then again, 99% of games fall short of being anything worthwhile, these days. Unless one is an idiot child with entitlement issues, in which case 99% of games are fantastic and 1% are crap.
I loved MoO and MoO2, and MoM. They were my go-to games for years.
Planetary Annihilation looks pretty interesting, but I'm not sure about it, either. I loved Metal Fatigue, though it had so many massive flaws, and I felt Supreme Commander could've been a worthy successor, but wasn't. And then its sequel really killed the ride.
Oh well, I guess nobody's learning from their mistakes...most notably, not taking up responsible entertainment. c'est la vie.
I certainly look forward toward Homeworld remastered, but you know, its gonna be like buying Blu-ray disk of a movie, you have already seen before as DivX. The quality is gonna be way higher, but its still gonna be the same thing, i dont think there is going to be anything surprising. I wish it felt again like it did back in 2000...but its just not going to happen. Its a nice memory from the past and its going to stay that way - and no remastered edition is going to change it.
Potential Homeworld 3 on other hand....
I am not sure about Planetary Annihilation either. I was excited at first, but as i seen the gameplay videos, its sort of gone away. I dunno, i like big scale games like Sins or SupCom, but i guess this one crossed some threshold in this regard and its bit over the top. The planets seem to be too small, the bases way too big almost touching themselves, the armies of units way too expendable...we shall see.
And i certainly dont like its cartoony graphics - SupCom looked sooo much better. It was supposed to be the next-gen game, but visually, sure as hell it is not.
My list consists of mostly RPGs.
In no particular order:
Wasteland 2, Pillars of Eternity, Grim Dawn, Divinity: Original Sin, Blackguards, Banner Saga, SouthPark: Stick of Truth, Might&Magic X and AoW III
And maybe Dragon Age 3 and Witcher 3 - both games had a weak second game so I am going to be looking at reviews and streams of gameplay first this time. Before you ask, Witcher 2 has console like twitchy combat that totally put me off from finishing the game and I don't need to explain why DA2 was bad
Star Citizen. This game will get my money.
I have been waiting for decades for the proper 'Privateer 2'. Sure, Star Citizen may not be in the same series per se...but I'm really looking forward to exploring a VERY dynamic universe.
If you're not excited about Planetary Annihilation at this point then stop watching videos about it. It's still in alpha and there's a TON of features that haven't been developed yet.
I too would be eager for a Homeworld 3...but I'm not sure what form it would take at this point. I'm unwilling to accept a genre change unless it's a spinoff rather than serial. And it had certainly better not have anything to do with the atrocity of gaming that was Homeworld: Cataclysm.

As for cartoony graphics...the vast majority of games are like that now...including (perhaps especially) GalCiv III. Frankly, I don't really care much at all about graphics. I care about gameplay, and these days, almost all gameplay has become "idiot-friendly". I want to say it's only the mainstream games appealing to the hopelessly moronic majority, but the reality is that a large number of indie games are just as bad. A large part of it stems from this notion that everything must always be a quantum leap improvement on something else, or must be completely original. Like I always say, there are infinite ways to make a light bulb, but only an incalculably small fraction actually work. Well, congrats...we're hitting the wall now, technologically speaking. Ah, the wonders of exponential development. "Next-gen" is perhaps the most damaging term in video games. It expresses everything that is wrong with game development.
It also occurs to me that I'm eager to see how Elite: Dangerous turns out. Unfortunately, EVE: Valkyrie is going to be heavy competition since EVE itself is already the truest possible spiritual successor to Elite in every way but flight control. But, I'm optimistic.
Pillars of Eternity
Elite dangerous.
Dragon age 3
1) Age of Wonders 3 (no1 by far)
2) Witcher III
3) Dragon Age : Inquisition
4) GC III
I'm not sure if we'll ever see Dawn of War 3. But if we do will it potentially live up to the glory of Dawn of War? Took a glimpse at Slitherines' Armageddon. It's all to closely tied to the Armageddon campaign. Not much variety in chapters and so forth...
but - back on topic
I am very much looking forward to these games...
Elite Dangerous
D3 - Reaper of Souls
GalCiv III
Grim Dawn
Warlock 2 - The exiled
and ... yes, hopefully another good W40k game
Gal Civ 3
Distant Worlds Universe (I've just doubled their marketing effort with this one post)
Starcraft 2: Legacy of the Void
Star Citizen
Probably not 2014 but Mass Effect 4
