Greetings! There's been a lot of news recently on Star Control and we want to make sure we have answers to some of the most common questions.
What is Star Control?
Star Control is a sci-fi action/adventure game set in the future where humans and aliens are trying their best to get by in this crazy old galaxy.
What is Star Control: Origins?
Star Control: Origins is the first game in the new Star Control series.
Is Star Control: Origins related to the classic DOS Star Control games?
Yes. While Star Control: Origins takes place in a different universe (allowing us to start fresh) the classic DOS games are still part of the Star Control franchise.
I loved the classic Star Control games! Will the new Star Control have humor, music and the light hearted fun mixed with dark interludes that we saw in Star Control 2?
That's the plan.
When will the new Star Control be out?
We are shooting for mid 2018 but the short answer is: When it's done.
Will the new Star Control have the aliens from the DOS Star Control games?
Star Control: Origins takes place in 2088. While it isn't a prequel, as it takes place in a different universe, it does take place decades before the events that occurred in the DOS games.
What is the universe of Star Control: Origins?
It starts out in the year 2086. Our part of the galaxy has been pretty busy for a long time without noticing us. However, our radio signals have been recently detected by the ancient Scryve Empire who see our rapid technological rise as a threat and are seeking us out to wipe us out. You are the Captain of Earth's first and only FTL ship and have been tasked with finding a way to save us before the Scryve learn Earth's exact location. No pressure.
What is the Star Control: Multiverse?
To ensure that we always have new adventures for players to go on, Star Control: Origins introduces players to multiuniverse gates known as "Origins". While the new Prime universe has its own lore and history and characters, the Origins will allow players to visit other universes as well. This allows us to license popular Sci-Fi universes and allow players to travel and visit them.
What would be the long-term dream of Star Control: Origins?
We want to bring back the open universe space adventure/exploration genre with this. That's why so much of our development has been focused on crafting tools to let players create and share their own adventures.
Star Control: Origins has its own lore, aliens and story explore. But we could imagine players being able to eventually get many other stories from any and every sci-fi universe that wants a story told in the Star Control style. Imagine a Babylon5 Star Control or a Firefly Star Control.
Yep.
*goosebumps*
Can't wait.
Have the Unannounced games been announced yet? Thinking the RTS is possibly Ashes, but I'm not sure I'm aware of a fantasy game... is that still in the works?
Ok so off of this initial question. Is there any plans to port SC:O to Xbox or Play Station?
We are looking to bring SCO to all 3 consoles.
Is the current ship-crafting arsenal final?
It seems like a lot of weapons at first, but after making a dozen or two ships, I'm finding the useful combinations kind of limited; every weapon has its pluses and minuses, but putting them together in a single ship can be a bit iffy sometimes.
I mean, it seems like there are quite a few different methods of making the other side dead, but not all of them go together particularly well. And I can't help but notice that we don't have access to the Harpoon weapon that is had by one of the pre-made ships in Fleet Battles.
I'm hoping there will eventually be more from which to choose, just for variety.
I don't know how derivative you folks want to be, but there are a few things we don't have yet:
For example, something that saps energy or inhibits movement (permanently, not just a temporary stoppage) rather than killing crew. Like the limpets the VUX have.
Or a hyper-jump like the Arilou.
Or weapons that can fire backward, like the Spathi. (Actually, it'd be great to have weapons that can fire in any direction, dependent entirely upon which way the mount is facing...imagine a ship built to deliver broadsides, like something out of Honor Harrington!)
(Actually, it's mostly those three; looking over the list of ships from SC2, while there are some specific differences, a lot of the weapons/systems available in SCO are at least similar to those in SC2.)
On iPad but short version: new weapons are being added weekly.
I like you. You tell me such nice things.
As someone who has been lucky enough to play around with some of this stuff, let me assure you that it IS "all kinds of awesome". You can make your own entire universe (well, galaxy maybe) with your own planets, races, ships, adventures, story. Some of the tools to do this stuff are still, uh, not brilliant and a bit buggy, but they're still being worked on and will be top notch by release, I'm sure.
Did you ever play Neverwinter Nights? People made a TON of player-designed content. Some of it was awful, but some of it was truly incredible and in some cases was actually even better than the story that shipped with the game. That's basically Stardock's goal here - have players make their own universes and ships and aliens and stories and share them so everyone can have fun in each others stories. Everyone wins.
I hate waiting.
Briefly...I seem to remember not liking it very much and not sticking with it.
...except those of us who have to wait.
I had a question, GOG.com hasn't changed its store page on Star Control: Origins so it doesnt have the release date posted. And it still shows Beta 2 and 3. The final release is in September is there even time to have a beta 2 or 3 since beta 1 has been out since November of 2017.
we are on public beta 2. Not sure how GOG describes it, Beta 3 will go out in July.
Out of curiosity...do the people who already have beta access get access to the update, too?
On gog.com Beta 1, was the super melee, Beta 2 was world making and Beta 3 is Creator of Universes. I havent seen anything about beta 2 from them and they show what date the first beta started. Thats about it no release date or any other news. Doesnt have the E3 Release Date or Trailer
I don't know if someone asked this but how many DLC is stardock Planing
How to reinstall Star Control? To fix whatever it cashes. It been six years that I bought GCII. Still playing it, when it cashes it was easy to reinstall it.
