Greetings! There's been a lot of news recently on Star Control and we want to make sure we have answers to some of the most common questions.
What is Star Control?
Star Control is a sci-fi action/adventure game set in the future where humans and aliens are trying their best to get by in this crazy old galaxy.
What is Star Control: Origins?
Star Control: Origins is the first game in the new Star Control series.
Is Star Control: Origins related to the classic DOS Star Control games?
Yes. While Star Control: Origins takes place in a different universe (allowing us to start fresh) the classic DOS games are still part of the Star Control franchise.
I loved the classic Star Control games! Will the new Star Control have humor, music and the light hearted fun mixed with dark interludes that we saw in Star Control 2?
That's the plan.
When will the new Star Control be out?
We are shooting for mid 2018 but the short answer is: When it's done.
Will the new Star Control have the aliens from the DOS Star Control games?
Star Control: Origins takes place in 2088. While it isn't a prequel, as it takes place in a different universe, it does take place decades before the events that occurred in the DOS games.
What is the universe of Star Control: Origins?
It starts out in the year 2086. Our part of the galaxy has been pretty busy for a long time without noticing us. However, our radio signals have been recently detected by the ancient Scryve Empire who see our rapid technological rise as a threat and are seeking us out to wipe us out. You are the Captain of Earth's first and only FTL ship and have been tasked with finding a way to save us before the Scryve learn Earth's exact location. No pressure.
What is the Star Control: Multiverse?
To ensure that we always have new adventures for players to go on, Star Control: Origins introduces players to multiuniverse gates known as "Origins". While the new Prime universe has its own lore and history and characters, the Origins will allow players to visit other universes as well. This allows us to license popular Sci-Fi universes and allow players to travel and visit them.
What would be the long-term dream of Star Control: Origins?
We want to bring back the open universe space adventure/exploration genre with this. That's why so much of our development has been focused on crafting tools to let players create and share their own adventures.
Star Control: Origins has its own lore, aliens and story explore. But we could imagine players being able to eventually get many other stories from any and every sci-fi universe that wants a story told in the Star Control style. Imagine a Babylon5 Star Control or a Firefly Star Control.
Yes.
I just purchased the Founders Addition but I did not get a download link, what do I need to do?
hmm, whz not original races?
Who do we as supporters need to beg to get it done?approved etc?
It's a question of separating the lore and the aliens. We don't want to retell Star Control 1/2 and we don't want to have to treat Star Control 3 as canon.
That isn't to say you won't ever see the aliens in DLC or something. But we don't want to be meddling with Paul and Fred's lore.
They have told us that they hope to return to their story someday and we want to keep that door open. While we would love to see a Star Control: Ur-Quan legacy, I would still be very happy with any sort of sequel to the Ur-Quan Masters.
By contrast, if we tried to continue it then you'd end up with a lot of confusion. Star Control 3 made it confusing enough.
As far as we're concerned, The Ur-Quan Masters is Paul and Fred's universe to continue as they see fit. And Star Control 3 is going to be renamed "The Kessari Quadrant" and be treated as an alternative universe whose events are not canon to The Ur-Quan Masters.
Updated.
Any chance to get in on the founders program i was looking at it
The Founders program is no longer accepting new members.
Founders program has ended, but you can now pre-order.

Thanks for the key push-out guys. Looking fwd to it.
Also re: Linux. FWIW, I'm planning on dumping windows and mving back to linux after win 8.1 is no longer supported (or build a new machine). Hopefully I won't have to run any dual boot. Any SD linux support is much appreciated.

Sorry if this is obvious but if I buy the game through the website I'll be able to play the game right now?
It's sort of implied but I can't tell if this is just a pre-order.
Edit
Nevermind, I now see that the “You’ll get a Steam key to add to your library and can start playing right away!” is just a blanket statement across all Stardock game purchase pages. Disappointing to say the least.
Does anyone know when will we be able to download a purchase from GOG.com?
Slightly related--will GOG.com ever be an option if we want to buy direct from Stardock?
The Super Melee beta is not available for download for pre-orders yet. That will come sometime next month.
hmm, I activated my key, but game isnt listed in my library.
will try restarting steam...
EDIT: helped...
Hi All,
Long time reader, first time poster.
Sorry if this is a noob question but just wanted a bit of clarity about what the pre-order actually entails. If I buy now at $22.49 does that mean I'll receive new features/entire game when it is released or does it include only the features currently available (melee, ship designer, etc). If the $22.49 is for the entire game, when it's released, then what extra did the founder's edition $39.99 receive other than access to founder's vault/private forum? I understand that the $99.99 came with all future expansions and other extras so can understand why that was significantly more.
I'm a big fan of Star Control, like everyone here, but have had very little to do with Stardock, although I'm heartened by the positive reviews I've read, and would just like to be certain on what I'm buying.
You are pre-ordering, so you get the full game upon release.
Founders got additional benefits such as early beta testing, private forums, etc.
Thanks for the clarification. Seemed like a big $ discrepancy between Founder's Edition and pre-order so I assumed I was missing something. Makes me wonder what went on in those private forums
Game pre-ordered.
I need some "Star Control" support venue that I can ask questions and get answers.
On the "Star Control" screen there is no "Support" link or FAQ link to access.
Back in October 17 I purchased a License Key with the promise that "Stardock"
would notify me in December when the game was going to be released. Then
nothing from "Stardock" - I have not been able to download anything concerning this Game
You have my money - I have nothing - I'm running Windows 8.1 32 bit but "Steam" gave
me a message saying they do not have the Game in my OS. So this has left me
frustrated. Please have "Brad Wardell" contact me concerning my $35 investment.

As per the requirements the game does not support 32 bit OS.
I became a lifetime founder quite a while ago. Since that has happened, I haven't gotten any notifications or updates other than when I visit the Founders Vault. I don't know a lot about Steam, I have it, and have 1 other game I use it for. However, I got nothing in regards to any beta or melee testing or whatever it was, and any link I look at only says "pre-order now" despite the fact I should have a copy of the game whenever it's released. What am I missing? What should I have done to be able to play the betas? Should I have gotten some sort of Steam key?
Yes, you should have. Steam keys for founders went out months ago. Perhaps your email has changed since you became a founder, or maybe the email got stuck in a spam filter or something?
I can't help, I'm just a founder like you, but I'm sure Brad or one of his minions will be able to help very soon.
Go to your Stardock product page and there you should see the keys for all products you have purchased from Stardock. Activate your key on Steam.
When it comes to installing the beta select Star Control: Origins - Fleet Battles BETA. There will also be a code required for the beta. To get this either join the Star Control server on Discord or PM me. Though I do recommend you join the Discord server, since screenshots and videos are posted there in advance for Founders and events are organized for multiplayer.
Thank you very much, I see the key under the product page. I'll attempt to get it working tomorrow. Thanks again!
Awesome!
Okay, so...if I'm reading this right, there will be a multiverse...and I see a World Builder in the Crafting menu (even if we can't access it yet). Other companies might license SCO to make an adventure in their own universe.
Okay.
But if there is a World Builder available to the players, does that mean there will also be a Galaxy Creator? Will we have access to tools that will allow us to make our own Star Control stories/plots/adventures?
Cuz...that would be all kinds of awesome.
