Go ahead and post if I'm right or wrong. I've noticed that there are a lot of people who don't have pictures for their avatars.
One of the problems is the pixel requirements for the pictures their are two of them.
I've noticed that any image I tried is to big for the requirement. so I loaded the image in paint since I don't care enough to have a fancy imaging program. resized the picture to the font. You will need to do this twice since their are two size requirements. the first one is 100 and the second one is 150. You will need to worry about the first font size. The program will fill in a second size for the second spot.
To find in paint in windows 7 or earlier you go to start. Then you go to programs. Then you go to accessories. Under there you find paint.
In eight it is a lot more complicated unless you find it in the user interface. On the desktop you would have to go to user accounts. Computer. C:. Windows. Programs 86.
In ten go to bottom left menu apps. Windows accessories. Paint.
Now when you start paint either make a picture, or load a image. After you do this you will need to resize the picture twice, and save it to two different files with different names. The is 100 pixels. and the second is 150 pixels.
exit out of paint and go to Galactic civilizations website.
Go to your account.
Go to images.
Go to the first spot
Go to load images and load 100 pixel image you reformatted from paint.
Go to the second spot
Go to load images and load the 150 pixel image you reformatted from paint.
If you like the default picture fine. It just doesn't make sense for a lot of people to have the same picture. This site is really for people like me who doesn't spend the time to figure this out. I use paint for this illustration cause it is on all windows computers for those who are to lazy to download from the internet. You probably could use photo editing software even though cyberlink for some reason doesn't resize. There are several free programs on the internet that would work. Just remember the format matters. With paint you can change the format under files.

and not in the GC3 or GC2 or Elemental forums. It works better.
Also to see your new avatar, sometimes you need to do a hard refresh (ctrl + f5).
it seems to me that the forums are horribly out of date . ridiculously small avatar sizes and the inability to load pictures without first loading them to an image hosting site
I have followed the instructions in both posts of this thread and so far have yet to see my avatar show up. I checked to make sure the pixel and size limitations were met, and the picture shows up in my account data and from "view Lucky Jack's Profile" from within this forum, and it shows up, but not on the avatar of my posts. And I have used the hard refresh (ctrl-f5) several times. What could be wrong?
EDIT --- Oh great. There it is now. Sigh.
EDIT 2 -- My best guess on what happens is that after uploading an avatar it takes the forum server time to begin adding it to your posts and replies, and they are not added to posts or replies you made before uploading the avatar.

I uploaded an avatar yesterday.
It is true that the previous posts and replies will stay without it.
That depends mine didn't I don't know what I did different others did, so there is a way I can't remember on how to do that. So I would say assume that they wont, and if they do get a nice surprise.
eventually all your old posts will update you your new avatar. I'm clueless as to how and when and how long. However, mine eventually did, so i suspect this is (will be) true for everyone else.
It is strange, I followed the instructions and uploaded an avatar.
Then after a while it showed up on my posts. Nice.
But now I am back to the original default one again on the old posts... strange...

I uploaded my image shortly after I joined. The one for my user-page showed up, but none of my posts had them (don't remember if I made any posts after uploading). Went and re-uploaded them at https://forums.stardock.com/user as suggested, so <testing>.
it is great to have an image program like paint to load an image for you, if the image size doesn't fit the requirement, you can just resize it or zoom the image. you should be able to load image from url,load image from .net graphics and load image from file if you become professional.
Although I think it is fairly easy to resze an image in any image processing software including paint, I do agree these forums could do with an update, the server could easily resize the image itself after it's uploaded and these forums aren't very smart phone friendly either, they border on the just about usable.
Then again maybe startdock should concentrate on there games the fourms are a bit out of date but still usable after all.

It would be nice if stardock was like some other forums that have a selection of avatars to select from. Makes life sooo much easier.
Except when you have something specific in mind that you want for your Avatar. Your originality of thought would make it certain that what you want probably wouldn't be available.
Have you made an avatar lately.
90% of the time I use the mobile version for the site and...aggg. I have to double tap buttons like edit post and quote for them to work, and sometime they just don't want to work and its to bad! Overall its ok though, site still works*.
My posts from before I had a avatar still don't have one last time i checked, nor do I think its supposed to happen, as I don't think the site is coded like that.
