Hello everyone. Sorry if this has been asked before but I have a question for anyone who has played either of these games. Ive been thinking of getting Civ 5 while i wait for Galciv 3. I was originally planing on playing Endless Space while i wait. But the idea of a shiny new game is tempting. Ive never played a Civ game before so it would be a new experience for me. The only things stopping me right now from getting it is the fact that throughout the game eras change (would prefer it being stuck in one time period), and spending the money to get the game and its expansions. Which i have, but it would be quite a bit of money spent.
Now i usually prefer sci fi/fantasy settings for games. In fact when it was seven years ago i was going to buy Civ 3 or 4 but got Galciv 2 instead cause it was a sci fi game. I have always had my sights on the Civ games especially with my love history, but any sci fi game game first in my eyes .
I feel stupid asking this since i hear so many good things about the Civilization games, guess i need a nudge in the right direction or something.
I waited on CIv 5 for a long time. Vanilla was just that, Vanilla. Gods and Kings was a vast improvement, and now I'm playing Brave New World, and I really like it. I would change a couple of small things, but overall, I like Civ 5 better than Civ 4... I know, I know, sacrilege.
That's not sacrilege - that's honesty. The game is better than Civ 4 at this point, but most people have a blind devotion to the older title that won't let them see it.
For many people, the sorry state Civ5 shipped as is unforgivable. However, Civ4 release version was just nearly as bad and at the time people claim that Civ3 was superior to Civ4. Civ4 wasn't that great until Beyond the Sword. I personally think 5 is far better then 4 was. In Civ4, There wasn't much strategy to combat other than pile 6 catapults and a bunch of units and ram the enemy army. Then mop up.
Why not both? Steam offers regular sales, and one is upcoming ("hide yer wallets" and usual stuff), if money is leading constraint you have.
I own both Endless Space and Civilization series, I enjoy both. Not going to argue which one I like more, or walk onto dangerous and slippery path of discussing which Civ is the best, most interesting, or most challenging, etc. Even if they are similar somewhere, they still different.
I understand, games like that (and pretty much everything made by Paradox) are games of "happy retirement", because of all time you could possibly invest into them, but I think having both is the winning move, especially since both hit 75% discount bar in Steam. Okay, probably winning move is to find someone with both and play on his account or use Steam Family Sharing feature for same result, and then made decision, but you got the idea.
Not just the released version, When i first played civ4, i was utterly devastated at the loss of 'bombardment'. That just smacked of... too lazy to fix the AI, instead just removed it!
After getting over the insult to my intelligence with such absurdities as having to ram enemy units with artillery, a tactic never before seen in all of history (except civ2), i did manage to enjoy the game allot. (Glad they fixed this highly anti realistic trait in civ5)
I played Civ5 with G&K. It felt bland and boring to me. I just didn't get an "epic" feeling from it. Building wonders used to feel important with civ4. In Civ5, it's just an accumulation of various points, and it feels hollow.
I've never played endless space, but IMO, Civ5 is skippable.
i love civ 5 and still play it from time to time, one of my favs. Although like Borg999 a guy here at work shares the exact same feeling. He bought it and after just 10 hours determined it felt to generic for him. I shocked as that wasn't the feeling i got from the game lol
So it comes down to what you enjoy in a game, i have endless space but i hated the battle, i think i have like 4 hours in the game and that's it.
